Field Report: TUTH and IShine - Asian hairdresser

I received my first batch of products yesterday (thank the Lords of International Shipping, ohh holy holy), and I thought I’d give two of them a “ride” today. Here’s what happened as I was going for my “christmas haircut blowdry shimmy yang-thang” (yayy).

I’m 33, caucasian, approx. 6 feet tall (standing up, that is).
Shined myself in:

  • One spray of Turn Up The Heat to lower neck/upper chest frontal.

  • Three sprays of Instant Shine distributed as follows:

  • One to face (mostly lower chin)

  • One to back of left hand (smeared across right hand too)

  • One to hair (top of head)

Came in late for appointment at hairdressers. Asian lady (26 years old, yes I asked her at some point) giving an appropriately cold (but smiling) welcome and takes me to my chair. She was Essence of Woman personified (not that I could smell it, but if that smell could take physical form, it might well have been through her. Beautiful). BTW, I’m not personally very into the Asian thingy, so I guess I’m not THAT biased (other than being me, of course … I like female form).

Ohwell. Since I had hair pre-washed, and “fluffed” with Instant Shine, she just sprays it down with water, and starts cutting. I’m quiet today (as in not my regular chatty self), being tired from too little sleep the past few days, and it shows! She initiates conversation mostly to ask about preferred hairstyle and general complimentary-courteous hair-salon chit-chat-stuff. Otherwise she doesn’t talk much, and neither do I.

So … I’m just enjoying the silence, and the christmassy carrols being played over the speakers. Then … it dawns on me (holy moly). Maybe seven minutes into the haircut, this girl is literally starting to lean on(!) me. Yes! Slow grinding movements, very coquette, very discrete, nothing uttered, no candid looks, but still … l.e.a.n.i.n.g.
As I noticed this, I tried to gain eye-contact, but nothing. Zip. Nada. The only thing she did was (as Catlord17 first brought to my attention) that reverse neck exposure thingy, maybe four or five times. And she continued to stand this >< close (uhhm, okay on top of me) for the remainder of the cut. Still, nothing more said (go figure).:open_mouth:

Comes time to pay, she suddenly seems sad. She doesn’t look like the girl that greeted me through the door 30 minutes ago. I mean, nuances here, (and I realize this still could be all in my head … naaah) but I got the impression she didn’t want me to leave. She seems to rrrreeeeeeel in on the conversation we (she?) obviously missed during the haircut. On top of this (and whammo! out of the blue) she manages to sqeeze in what she’s doing for Christmas this year, and that she has a boyfriend! Well, thank you, but I never asked!

Mmhwell, Asians never do cease to amaze me (no pun intended).

Ohh, I almost forgot. After today, interpreting what just happened (in retrospect of course), there’s no doubt! in my mind Androtics’ products work
Like clay on whatever!

Me luv IShine,
Chris

(feel free to elaborate with viewpoints, questions, comments)

Thanks for the report, I really appreciate the details since its tough to remember these things after they happen. Now I haven’t received my order yet <rant> even though they charged my credit card like ten days ago </rant> but I’m going to go ahead and play some devil’s advocate since I love that role so much.

It just so happens that I went to get my hair cut today as well. The girl that took care of me happened to be asian and quite good looking, though probably somewhat older than 26. And it seemed to me that she seemed to be somewhat attracted to me, but heck, its hard to tell since there is a lot of touching and conversation going on there anyways, right? But as I was reading your FR I couldn’t help but think “if I was wearing some pheromones today during my haircut, I would totally think that they were working overtime”.

So I guess what I’m saying is that we all have our ‘good days’, when things are clicking. How do you know when to attribute that to meeting the right person or luck or the fact that the person you’re talking to just hit the lottery for $4k or the fantastic chemical you are wearing? (BTW, I like the back of the neck theory, perhaps because of its specificity.)

Sorry for the negativity, I’m just throwing this out there

Dude, great report! Glad to see you got your stuffs. Really looking forward to some reports from you, knowing your ability to decipher social interactions combined with the fact that we will to some extent be working the exact same environments.

Great to see you’re getting hits right away too!

just go easy on the asian streotyping mate. Im sure not all asians are like that.

Else i could easily label anyone as “oh typical white guy” then we’ll just be streotyping ourselves to boredom.

Comment freely elaborated

I’m sure pretty much everyone in this world are to be considered individuals with personality traits of their own. Asians also never cease to amaze me in a positive way. Guess it boils down to how you read into it.

Elaboration freely commented on.

Love,
Chris
A typical atypical white guy.

Nice report, Chris. I think being a hairdresser exposes you to an intense dose of skin/hair odors/pheromones; you’d be right in the thick of it all day long … and then there’s all the touching … it’s probably a kind of sensual barrage for someone sensitive, and you’d have to shield yourself somewhat initially, maintain that professional distance. Obviously you overcame those barriers since you were smelling so “right” to her!

Devil all you want
I know we all have our good days, and I guess bad days too.
I reached my conclusions based on the following:

  • I was not my regular self today, extremely tired, not chatty, looked like a mess. I would not have gone anywhere in that state, had it not been for being late for that appointment (AND the desperate need for a haircut). Now, I know pushing people away with attitude sometimes work wonders in creating attraction, but not like this. I know, cause I’ve seen it a lot.
  • Her dichotomic behavior in grinding (leaning on) me in a somewhat blunt fashion, and at the same time acting bothered about it (reverse neck exposure).
  • And of course, the final fact that she was (in a very awkward fashion) trying to keep me from leaving through needless conversational “Bull”. Yeah. Why would she bring up having a boyfriend, just like that? I really had no need to know.
That being said, I sure do know we sometimes see what we want to see (for both better or worse). Pheroquirk posted an excellent abstract on it a while back: Motivational Influences on Visual Perception. While I know most of this both from earlier work (and my current profession) I judged the results somewhat differently this time (as in finding the effects of 'mones close to obvious).

But … thanks for pointing it out to me anyway. I’m rarely afraid to change my perspectives, but I do need reminders that I always have a lot left to learn in Life. For instance that Pure objectiveness never truly can be achieved.

Thank you, Domer.

Lossa’luv,
Chris

Nice report

Out of interest was she Eastern Asian or Southern Asian?

I’m not well steeped in Asian ehrr, physiognomy, but judging from her facial traits, I’d say southern.

And thanks,
Chris

She was experiencing some serious inner turmoil… a clash between heart and mind. I think she mentioned her boyfriend more to remind herself than to say anything else. Sort of defending against what she’s feeling threatened by even though it was coming from within.

I think you’ve hit the nail squarely, Catlord. Spot on.

Thank you, Carrie.
I absolutely agree. I know I would shield myself in those kinds of environments. Else it’d probably be too intense in the long run, and I’d probably do a worse job than what should be expected.

As for the “smelling right” I know nothing else than my interpretations of what happened. I just received my first batch of mones ever, and was anxiously curious to try some. I think next time I’m going to hairdressers, I won’t be wearing. Here’s why:

The more I think about it (judging from the reactions I read from her), the aftermath of my pondering has led me to rethink the situation as one with unwanted results. Maybe a little unethical too. I mean, me prancing in, exposing her to something she never really asked for, is hardly what I wanted to cause. I wanted a haircut.

I’ll definitely caution myself as to what I want to achieve wearing anything in the future, and probably ask myself a question we should all ask ourselves from time to time: “is this right?”

Love,
Chris

touché

Oh gosh, Chris. I don’t know … is it the TUTH that you think was ‘unethical’ to wear to a haircut? It seems to me like she enjoyed it, or she wouldn’t have wanted to get even closer to you than she had to be. I think catlord is right, by the way. But the fact that she may have felt conflict between attraction to you and loyalty to her boyfriend isn’t bad in itself. Maybe it was some kind of awakening for her. At any rate I think you were probably a bright spot in her day. Bringing a fun and sexually alive presence into the lives of those you randomly encounter is kind of cool, I think.

There are situations where certain pheros are probably a bad idea (heavy 'none on someone who works with pregnant women, for instance) … on the other hand, you never know when you are going to meet someone on whom you really want to make a great first impression.

I also think it’s nice to shake things up, Carrie. Makes life more interesting.

Just because you have a certain influence, or you make certain suggestions with the pheromones you wear (or anything else on your body, or words from your lips), doesn’t mean it’s unethical. Influence is far away from force.

In fact, it’s the use of influence in this world which will eventually reduce the use of force. The more influential people become, the less they have to rely on truly unethical means of manipulation.

Also, in this case, if her sexuality was stirred… she probably gave her boyfriend quite a nice time that night. For all you know, Chris, she may have felt bored with and distanced from her boyfriend, but you encouraged her to remember good times she… and to fantasy about even better times. Inspiring someone in this manner can actually make a relationship better.

As most people involved in truly long term relationships (far past the 4 year stickiness test) have said… sure, other people make them aroused… sure, they get “inspired” by others… but then they only DO SOMETHING about that lust with their primary partner.
