I went shopping for a hydrocarbon genny to back up the small renewable grid. Wish it was here already, I suspect at least one major grid in both hemispheres may feel it’s wrath (like the canada recently).
The power companies propose placing resistors in big tranny’s will fix the grid probs…nobody’s mentioned the mass damage our sattelitte and coms network will cop. Guess I’ll dust off my HAM station, just i case.
NO. Not now. The last thing I need to see is the electricity flicker and go off. I’m going to see Charmane Star at 939 tonight. And I’m packing mones!

LOL, I had no idea even what that was until I googled it. The lights out might be a fun thing for yah ![]()
Did you ever get any pictures Steve?
Nope, nothing to see. No aurora, not even no satellites plunging to earth. ![]()
We’ve had these before. Sometimes damage is done but we’ve learned a few things the last 30 years or so.
The transmission lines that run radially from magnetic North see geo-currents. These can overload currents in generator neutral connections. A few years ago, a transformer in New Jersey burnt out as did one in Ontario.
The US even put up a special satellite to give us early warning of coming solar storms.
Don’t worry - I suspect this is being overplayed by the press.
Does the early warning satellite get fried first before we know something is wrong?

PQ, with your permission I’d like to copy this to the archive thread.
Don’t have an answer on the satellite getting fried, but I suspect they designed for that.
Were there any reports of damage or outages? I haven’t heard of any, supporting my hypothesis of this being a way to sell newspapers and air time and not a huge concern.
The only follow-up reports I read was radio interference but other than that it was a dud.
