Height: any legitimate diet tips or exercises for a long-term increase?

Are there any legitimate methods for increasing one’s height? I’m about 6’, but I was reading the book “Blink” and it occurred to me that gaining an extra few inches of health would benefit my career. Are there any specific diet tips or exercises that will lead to a long term height increase? I have read that stretching and increasing HGH levels will increase your height, but is there anything specific that you guys know about?

I downloaded an ebook called “How to Increase Your Hright 2-3 Inches in 7 Weeks”. I never really tried any of it but it might be of interest to you.

There is a website listed at the beginning of the book called growtallernaturally.com. I haven’t been there.

There are fads and potions but scientifically once you reach adulthood there is no way to lengthen bone other then to have it surgically done by repeated breaking.

As babies we actually have more bones then as adults. These bones slowly fuse together to increase height. They also grow but around the end of puberty we grow plates that stop the growth in length which is what determines height.

Bone can still change though according to the weight load we carry and genetics. They don’t lengthen though they shift and widen. Once those growth plates are in place between the age of 18 and 20 for men HGH can not make you grow in height. I know body builders make other claims but its scientifically impossible. There is a window of opportunity when HGH is medically used to correct height issues and that is before the growth plates are in place. Used after that and your adding mass not lengthing and this can cause bone problems down the road.

Only advice I can give here is work on posture. People tend to slouch and lose a few inches in height because of it.

I take it you’re a professional basketball player…

But, yeah, Tish is right, they break your legs then put in pins to stretch your legs.

Still wana try??:open_mouth:

That’s what I was afraid of. I think the only thing I can do at this point is improve posture and stretch my vertebrae apart to gain a small amount of height before gravity recompresses my spine.

Its funny, I’m at or above the 95th percentile for height in the US. Which means only 5 percent of people are taller than me.

Im completely happy with where I am, but wouldn’t mind an extra inch or two. I think that no matter the issue, be it money, height, weight, muscles, horsepower or anything else that be compared there will always be people that want more or less than they have.

To me it ultimately comes down to being happy with yourself. I think that being confident with yourself will always be most important.

Of course that is absolutely true, and there are many things a person could and should work on besides height. However, I was reading the book “blink” and it was pointed out that tall people are disproportionately trusted and liked for no other reason than height. If I can get a few more inches, I think this would be another thing to help me out.

You reminded me of something from one of my research classes talking about facial types and peoples reactions. The one that popped into my head was that guys with “baby faces” are given stricter sentences in court than others.

It has always struck me as amusing that people will judge people like this, yet if you think about it we all do this every day.

I suppose if you really wanted to you could pick out shoes that have higher soles or even use lifts or wedges under the insole. Other than that and the aforementioned leg breaking I cant think of any ways.

Oh I did find a guide to dressing taller a while back as part of a whole guide to dressing for your body type. Apparently using little things that help lead the eyes up the body can help. I cant for the life of me remember what those were though.

If you do manage to gain a few inches, be sure to let us know!

I do know that wearing vertical stripes will tend to make your more taller and slender, but that is not always possible. I have to dress up in my career, so I’ve been thinking about getting a pair of dress shoes with a thicker heel, perhaps a nice bespoke pair (don’t I wish!) and putting in a gel insert for comfort and height. If I pick out the correct shoe, with the insert I could probably gain 1.5 or more inches. Correct posture and a stretching/exercise routine could add maybe another 2 or 3 over time?

My thinking is, that although we can’t restart the growth plates, we can stretch out the spine and better develop stabilizer muscles so that it takes longer for them to recompress back to their normal state.

I found this website:

Grow taller at any age naturally

which claims, inopposite to what Tisha says, that it is possible that stretching/exercise can cause an increase in height to the tune of 2-6 inches at any age. I have a strong inclination to believe Tisha over anything random I’ve read on the innerwebs, but as long as the exercises aren’t dangerous or harmful, I can only see other positive results coming from such a routine even if the efficacy of the program specific to height is a total failure.

Its not like your short for a male. As Tacorov said we always assume the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. Both my brothers are very tall. One is 6’6 and the other is 6’7. People dont like or trust them more because of it in fact I would say its the opposite. They fear them more and are more intimidated by them but they dont like them more.

On first glance we do all judge on the appearances. Its human nature. But most people (at least the ones not totally shallow) do not judge strictly on the visual (appearance). That just gives first impression. Some of the other senses kick in that help us come to the conclusion of who a person is. Your auditory (verbal). olfactory (pheromones) kinaesthetics (touch) and again visual with body language.

Some of these you have more control over then others. I am not saying we should not try to better ourselves in these areas. I think life is about growing and improving and once you stop you stop “growing” but we have to except what we can not change and work on what we can or your running in circles and wasting time.

I think how you carry yourself is far more important then actual height. There are short men who can give off a powerful vibe using the other senses they have developed and there are tall men who seem small and weak. Its not the actual height that gives these impressions it all the other indicators that go with it.

Body structure is one of those things toughest to change. Sure with the surgeries they offer now a days you can look like a whole different person but it rarely makes life easier or better it just makes it different.

I would concentrate more on making the improvements you can and worry less about height especially because in your case your at a good height already and a few inches is not going to produce as much of a change as working on some of those other areas.

Aw, tisha are you telling me I’m not already perfect? I pretty much agree with everything you said, I just look at this as a part of an overall fitness effort. If I manage to gain a few inches it is a good thing.

Regarding your brothers, I wonder if the trust element is more a respect/trust element as it was mentioned regarding politicians. I also wonder if personal contact has to do a lot with it as well. Your brothers being in personal contact with people may bring emotions of intimidation while from afar the height it inspires respect/trust?

Of course I would not insult you by saying your perfect. Perfection is a illusion and I am sure your quite real. There is no such thing. Working posture into your fitness goals is great. You can create the perception of height in other ways as well though and that’s my point. Just how you carry yourself, your character and personality can give the illusion of being taller then you actually are.

There are two kinds of respect. Respect that is earned and respect inspired by fear and intimidation. I respect snakes because I know they can bite me but I don’t trust them. Its just not the same as respect and trust that is earned. Its fleeting.

For both my brothers I would say on first glance its respect out of fear but that respect is fleeting once they find out they are both gentle giants. After that they have to earn trust and respect like everyone else. So really if you think about it perception derived from appearances are really just illusions.

A good topic which interests me as well!

I have to say, I’m around 170 cm tall or 5,5", something like that. Might a little less than that even, but that’s what I say.
However, many of the people I’ve met and when the topic of height came up, they commented they wouldn’t think me as 170 cm or less than that. Most have said something like 175.

So what has been said about persona and carrying yourself, it’s true!
I used to be quite sad about my height. I might have eaten less than I would have needed when I was a teenager, but well, both my parents are not on the tall side. And my sister is really petite!

Anyway, it’s about this certain kind of aura. Even when you’re not so tall, you can appear to be. How you talk, how you use your body … Chin up! A good posture is essential and that’s what I sport. OK, I slouch when I’m in front of the computer, but outside home, I walk “tall.”

So, in a way it’s about your mind. Don’t be nervous about your height. I started to live so much easier when I just said “what the f***” (Risky Business, hehe) and stopped wearing platform shoes. Oh yes, I did wear them, but then again my style was completely different than it is now. (Think of a 80’s hair rock artist, that was me around 3-4 years ago.)

So, don’t care about that book and what it said about your career. And hey, you’re on a forum about pheromones! I think they can “give” you that inch or two.
The more you stress about your height, the more it shows!

PS. Good shoes (not platform) help! It’s good for your posture and good shoes make a man (and girls too!) happy, I think. And true, vertical stripes can aid as well. Lots of neat tricks to fool a little!

I have gained 2-3 centimeters since I started doing yoga. Combination of better posture and a less "compact’ spine.

Paleobiologists have discovered that back when we were all naked hunter/gatherers we were as tall as we are now (and the idea that we all died of old age at 37 is skewed by infant/child mortality) and “worked” perhaps 4 hours a day, spending the rest of time napping, playing with the kids and having sex. Then what some think of as the greatest tragedy to strike the human race happened, we discovered agriculture (that is a whole 'nother post). We shrank in size when that happened due to malnutrition, vitamin deficiency (we reduced our food sources from 1,000’s to a couple of hundred) and disease passed to us due to close proximity to the animals we kept and the crowding in villages we moved into. The grueling (10-14 hours a day) labor needed to farm didn’t help either. It has taken us 10,000 years to grow back to the height we had back then.

It really is in the way that you hold yourself and how you conduct things. But if you’re confident, nothing can stop you in all honesty. I’ve hooked up with girls taller than me, and my current GF is slightly taller and it was all how on I carried myself. Same with work and everything else. I don’t care what any book or research says, if you only hold yourself back by the limiting beliefs that you hold for yourself. Just mah two ceeeeeeeentssssss

I’m 5’9’’ and haven’t grown much in several years. Girls in high school often called me short (while looking up to me to inform me of this) but I eventually learned that you don’t need those type of people in your life.

Find a PDF of “How To Increase Height In 7 Weeks” as mentioned earlier. I’ve heard it actually works but never tried it personally.

Its biologically impossible unless you have gigantism and didn’t form growth plates during puberty. They probably just teach you how to carry yourself to look taller. Hell you can do that just walk around with a book on your head. Why do you think all those models and beauty contestants do that ?

Next time give them a coy smile and say >>> “what I lack in height I made up with in length” and wink and walk away that will make them stop and take notice.
