Actually what those two aminos (and a couple of others) do is as follows:
They are precursors - building blocks - to HGH. Normal HGH production drops off as we get older. But if the materials to make it are there, an increased spike of normal production will occur.
HGH is the thing that causes growth spurts in kids, and it’s very active in pregnant women, people recovering from surgery/wounds, and it is also active in increasing muscle mass.
One of the side fx is an OVERALL burning of body fat, to help fuel the growth. Yes, it does work. If your body fat is principally in your belly, that’s where you’re going to notice it. But it IS all over, and not spot reduction.
Personal experience:
-
I had a partial hysterectomy in '97. (If I’d had a full one, I wouldn’t have had the issue I had last year, but oh well.) I took these aminos - dubbed “GH releasers” in the bodybuilding community - during recovery. I was supposed to have follow-up checkups at the 1-week, 3-week, and 6-week stages. At the 3-week stage, the surgeon released me, telling me I’d healed faster than anyone he’d ever seen; I was past the normal 7-week stage.
-
I have been using the same formulation (I like the “Amino GH Releasers” by Anabol Naturals) since I’ve gone back to the gym and begun serious workouts (as in, not the original, getting-some-strength-back, but the full, gung-ho let’s-throw-some-iron-around workouts) and once more they are contributing to rapid muscle growth and bodyfat loss.
Now, there are two times that HGH levels peak. One is during a workout, and the other is during deep sleep. Therefore you should take the supplements either an hour before workout, or an hour before bedtime (AT bedtime if like me, it takes you awhile to konk out). ON AN EMPTY STOMACH. Obviously other aminos from proteins are going to interfere and possibly divert these aminos into other activities, and carbs screw up the whole thing. If you get the munchies, eat a slice of cheese; fat does NOT interfere with the process.
There are two side effects.
If you take it during a workout, you are likely to get nauseated. I have thrown up during workouts on this account. It is the exact same effect that induces morning sickness in pregnant women. This can be countered somewhat by buffering the lactic acid being produced with sodium bicarb - baking soda. But only somewhat. Which is why I prefer NOT to take it before workouts.
If you take it at bedtime for extended periods of time, it can cause insomnia. Used to be that if you took something to help you sleep, it interfered with the mechanism and prevented HGH release. However, I’ve found in recent years that sleep aids are sophisticated enough that they don’t seem to interfere. Still and all, laying off it for 3-5 days, up to a week, if you get insomnia isn’t a bad idea.
You don’t say when you’re taking it, but if you’re up and about I’d say you’re taking it either first thing in the morning (does no good); after a workout (does no good); or before a workout. It may be that you are getting some mild nausea fx that your brain is interpreting as spacy. If you are taking it at night, it may be that you’re having some mild sleep interference, and the next day you’re interpreting tiredness as spaciness.
Tell me when you’re taking it, and how much, and I can help you adjust your dosages for effectiveness and minimum side fx.
