Out of curiosity, can anybody tell me how commercial pheromones are produced?
In a lab.![]()
Yes Im curious as well how are Natural Pheromones created artificially or emulated if that is the correct term.
They are chemically synthesized. Various chemicals are added to beakers and the result is mones.
Oh come on Mtnjim, lets tell them the truth.
Pheromones are made in labs/sweat shops/slave labor camps in South America. The pheromone production units (slaves) are stripped of their clothing and placed in rooms kept at constant 120 degrees for 2 to 3 hours at a time. As the sweat drips to a grated floor there is a large vat below which collects the sweat. Individual pheromones are then extracted and sold to us.

But seriously, the pheromones are synthesized from petroleum or petroleum based products, as I understand it.
But then they wouldn’t be synthetic and they’d be real… zeph just had an idea… wait wait… its not a good one. Dang. ![]()
Actually there are components such as musk sacks that many animals drop as a natural process that are taken and synthesized.
Then of course there is also whale grist which is basically fish barf that again is a natural occurring process in nature.
No animals are ever hurt in synthesizing human pheromones, but you will find natural occurring instances of animal molecular compounds in Human Synthetic pheromones. At least thats what I read once.
I do know that I once got a paper cut while working for Androtics and Jasmin told me to suck it up and stop whining. She’s a real terror!
If it is made of musk sack and fish barf, would it still called human pheromone? Or is the content/formula same as the content/formula of human pheromone?
Fish (actually whale) barf is called “ambergris”. It’s used in a lot of perfumes.![]()
I thought that was whale sperm. I wonder what would happen if you collect human secretions at various times. Like once under:
- being in love (watching a love flick)
- arousal (watching another flick)
- heavy workout (2 hours of cardio and weights)
- stress
- joy
- after a great performance
*]being interogated.
Would that change the molecular structure? Therefore be a different molecule all together?
Close, but no cigar. It’s produced by sperm whales.
That’s also an interesting question that you posed. I would think that our natural pheromonal and hormonal production changes according to mood, physical and emotional condition, stress, etc.
It would be interesting to know by how much these levels change though. Maybe oneday these effects will actually be studied in detail.
My bad, verbal dyslexia.
Yah, there was some study that proved intent changes the molecules of water, but is that enough to change the molecules of pheros?
Actually, I am confused as to what they mean by molecules vs. chemical composition. The chemical compostion of water is always H20 even if the molecule changes from blob to crystalline structure.
What do they mean when they say this is a different molecule? Is that just a convenient word to use to sound scientific?
Chemical comosition means various molecules added together to create a new or different compounded mix.
As to different molecules, they are saying that they are of a different molecular structure. Just as Androstenone and Androsterone are different molecules.
Water is never actually pure H20. “Pure” water meaning DI water, nothing but “water,” is actually H20, H30-, H+ ions and OH- ions. H20 is both an acid and a base which is why its constantly going from H20 > OH- + H+ which is also 2H20 > H30+ and OH-
Also a compound can have the same chemical composition but can have completely different effects. They are techinically not the same molecule even if they have the same chemical composition due to structural differences. An example is a molecule called L-Dopa used to treat Parkinson’s disease. It has an enantiomer which is EXACTLY the same in chemical composition, BUT it is a mirror image of L-Dopa and as a result, is ineffective in treating Parkinson’s disease. It just depends how technical the person/site/reference is. Keep in mind this is different from allotropes which are chemical compositions based upon the STATE of the compound, like carbon. Carbon can make diamonds or graphite. Both are made of carbon molecules, both are solid, but the structure of how the carbon is set up varies.
So you can have two molecules that have the same CHEMICAL COMPOSITION, say C2H4O2 but have completely different effects because of their structure. They would be considered different molecules.
Whoa I have so many question but no where to start! I’ll think about this.
Synthesized pheromones contain no “natural” ingredients, whale (ambergris, thanks Jim) musk gland or otherwise. Certain molecules or compounds that are synthesized may be chemically identical to naturally occurring constituents, but are not distilled from chicken lips. We can all now sleep peacefully tonight.
The same is true for 90+% of commercial perfume/cologne ingredients.
