I hate heavy metal

No, I don’t, I love it too much, and it sucks, because most people don’t care for it, so it can be hard to hang out (helloooo, f-ing awesome makeout music… haha they don’t seem to object to that!!!)…ah well, such is life…yet i also love blues and disco and old beatles and trance and hip hop and actually every kind of music, …love love love pantera, also have recently discovered marilyn manson (okay I know, 10+ years after the fact, but better late than never!)…

Can you believe we just had Johnny Winter play here tonight in this crazy random teeny tiny town! (also previously they had Taj Mahal, John Mayall, every blues/rock legend you can think of, wtf!!!).

But Johnny Winter could barely walk (albino, health challenged?), and they only played 1 hr 20 min, plus he got paranoid/claustrophobic with everyone all dancing too close, they made everyone go sit back in our seats or at least keep the center stage clear…ah, well…

Phero-wise, was awesome, but I wore an insane mix (okay my Brazilian jeans and may have helped also), which included a personal mx of a-nol, TAA, p74, p83, p96, A314, as well as some other products (thus no report, sorry).

Ahhh a woman after my own heart. Pantera is great and a lot more influential than most people give them credit for. Phil’s dynamic switching between a clean melodic style of singing and the more traditional metal scream/roar influenced one of my other favorite bands, Fear Factory (Demanufacture is a classic). Also a fan of Megadeth, Slayer, Suicidal Tendencies, Testament, and early Metallica. Then of course you have the more traditional Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Queensryche sound (saw all three on a triple bill once, they were all awesome).

But like yourself my tastes are a bit more eclectic…I actually look for that in the women I date (being so one dimensional as to only love one style of music is unattractive to me). I go to jazz clubs a lot, there’s a brewpub here in town that has a blues night. I like classic rock but in the vein of traditional Stones/CCR type of sounds. I enjoy classical and Opera and frankly anyone that enjoys HEAVY music should be able to appreciate Wagner and Orf as they wrote some of the darkest and heaviest pieces of classical music and opera ever. (if you ever want to see the Ring Cycle don’t make any fuckin plans however as that is a looooong monster).

In a less conservative and fun vein I’ve begun to develop an appreciation for a variety of “club” musical styles like Techno, Trance, House, and Hip Hop/R&B mixes. Although I confess I’m unsure as to if I’ve actually learned to like the music or if I simply appreciate any musical genre that causes women to wear barely there outfits and shake and grind their bodies as if in coitus and orgasm.

Ahhh, methinks perhaps you might actually be hang-outable-with, but you’re so far away (actually not that far, CA is probly the closest state to HI). And yes, I too have developed a taste for “club” music, most specifically trance, the less singing the better, I’m into the jam, which I think really describes my preference in all genres of music, the jam comes first…

I think Van Halen is some of the best party music ever made. Nice to see Scorpians and Motley Crue on your list too. There used to be a bar about an hour away from me that used to get some great bar bands that had good repertoire of hard rock. Then the bar would play dance music between sets. I saw a band close the bar playing Ace of Spades and the dance floor was PACKED. We had some good times in that bar. It is closed now.

Van Halen put on a good show when I saw them, but for a sheer party Sammy Hagar solo was awesome. I saw the Scorpians 2 years ago and they were pretty good. Motley Crue was a good show too. A band called The Trews is an incredible live show (Not Ready to Go, Paranoid Freak, Poor Old Broken Hearted Me).

I’m a Joe Dirt rocker. :stuck_out_tongue:

Silly;

If you are looking for some great makeout music, check out Enigma.

i love HEAVY FU*KING METAL
PANTERA
KORN
TOOL
RUSH
SLIPKNOT
NIN

Everything on the list so far PLUS (in no particular order)
classic jazz (used to sing for a swingband)
Texas Roadhouse Blues (used to be heavy into the local scene)
Middle Eastern Eclectic/Exile (Niyaz etc.)
Beats Antique- Collide (middle east/circus triphop) lol
local metal

anything where the lyrics strike a chord (familiar, hey isn’t that ______? based on history, myth dogma etc.)
good basslines (dated too many bass players)

Jugband. And yes I am being serious.
Jam bands too.

Pretty much everything else that has been mentioned and might I add Triumph!

Awww now THAT is a guilty pleasure. Kinda like Rush meets Styxx. You know, seems like every day I wonder more if you and I were separated at birth.

I’m waiting for you to list the heavy metal bands

\m/ JUSTIN BEIBER \m/ metal as fu*k lol

Triumph is awesome. I’ve seen Triumph/Rik Emmett at least 5 times. I even have one of his guitar picks kicking around that I caught at a show.

Check out Devin Townsend (Devin Townsend Band, Strapping Young Lad, Devin Townsend Project). He varies from ambient and melodic all the way to extreme metal (with a progressive twist). Very unique listening experience.

Some other favorites are :
Scar Symmetry (espically the albums “Pitch Black Progress” and “Holographic Universe”) Melodic death metal from Sweden. Very talented musicians with a lot to say lyrically. I also have to note that their original vocalist is in like ten other bands, most recently, Solution .45 which I would also recommend.

If you don’t know of Soilwork I suggest you go on youtube and look for the albums, “Natural Born Chaos” and “Stabbing the Drama.” Their older shit is a lot heavier, but if you’re first checking them out those are the two I recommend because the choruses are very catchy but it’s still pretty fuckin’ heavy.

Children of Bodom is bad ass, but I really don’t care for the vocals (although I can’t imagine anyone else singing for them)

Ahhh, let’s see who else? Prong…Anyone remember Prong?

what about dead soul tribe

Word.

One of my favorites, although not the easiest to get into, but absolutely musical geniuses, Opeth:

A soft song by them:

One of my favorites, and much heavier

Also, check these dudes out for some insane Prog/Tech metal:

This is real metal

If you only check out one song, make it windowpane, the first link.

Oh and just to be clear everyone, I got a call from Heavy Metal Pioneers Iron Butterfly and they in fact HATE YOU sillyKitty. Their precise words: Inagoda Devita Honey, don’t you know that I hate you silly.

I’ve got Sadeness set as my wakeup music on my MP3 alarm clock. I have no idea why I ever did it, but now it’s default. Every time I hear those Gregorian chants, I think it’s time to get up and get ready for work. lol

Oh, and Dream Theater. They’re Prog-metal, but DAYUM.

They also did a note-perfect live cover of the entire Dark Side of the Moon album.

For some reason that song reminds me of what would be playing during soft core porn. I mean seriously, listen to the song and just visualize it…

That’s also why it’s a mainstay in strip clubs.

Fuck yeah, like, really classy strip joints
