This might be a more productive thread. I haven’t verified all of the info, but the distinction as far as acetic acid seems correct. Propanoic acid and acetic are both carboxylic acids with a chain structure. They have only carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. However, prop. is a fatty acid. Note the only difference between prop. and Valeric is the length of the zigzag chain. Substances like valeric are notorious for awful odor. Valerian really has a dirty socks odor.

Of interest is that, to me at least, the ExperiMone androstenone produces an odor I would best describe as vinegar-like. Other None products produce a urine smell. Some putatives people state have a nasty odor. I’m not the cops expert, but my recollection from clinical texts (outside the mones context) is that most of these secretions aim at preserving pH and an anti-microbial environment. Just like with the holistic male pheromone signature, the female sig. at any given moment reflects genetic and physiologic mating fitness.
This is probably more than I should be reading today (shrug), but it keeps with modern thinking that the body will take care of itself rather well and that these secretions are part of that. A bit of cops and odor is probably a sign of good health. Clinical pathology is decidedly unsexy…especially textbook color plates.

Again, not a cops expert, but something tells me plant oils (eugenol) would make good cover. Some of these smelly substances (indole) can be masked this way. You’ve seen in movies how cops use vapor rub under the nose around a dead body. Clove oil, wintergreen oil, menthol, camphor.
