Now when you say slow, are you doing a fair comparison? And by that I mean American Muscle Cars in stock off the lot condition against Imports in stock off the lot condition?
Most of the guys that claim muscle cars are slow compare the American cars in basic stock condition against a Japanese import car that’s had at least 10 grand invested in all kinds of upgrades and alterations. That’s hardly fair, if you want to compare a tuner, put it up against a muscle car that’s had just as many mods done to it.
I find it difficult to buy that a 4 banger can move faster than a stock V8 without a ton of money invested in it.
I dunno about the whole “slow” thing, muscle was beating a lot of these imports even when the imports got a faster start off the line and length or more of a lead at the start.
Its all about gearing and torque. Horsepower is not as important as people think. Take a modded V8 and a Modded Supra or CRX V8 gonna lose 4 out of 5 times. Imports are just all around better. Better gas mileage, better looks, safer,sound better. Muscle Cars sound terrible, look like boxes of crap, get crappy gas mileage and are overrated and slow. I used to love muscle cars till my buddy and I were in his EF Civic and Blew a GTO Judge away.
Your original question was what cars do we prefer…
Cars are just like women. Everyone has different tastes and preferences. Some like blonde’s, some like brunettes. Each point you made there can be disputed depending on the persons perspective. To me… They are not slow, gas mileage is not the best but not the worst and its worth it, they look far more sexy then imports, they are quite safe and that gorgeous rumbling sound they make sets the south on fire. Your perspective is different and thats OK.
Now when it comes to racing thats a whole other issue.
My husband has raced hundreds of imports on the track and on the street and he wins more then he loses. He is a excellent driver. He actually likes and admires some imports and will give kudo’s where they are due. He never argues… Muscle verses Imports because racing is not about one type of car against another. Its about my car and driver against your car and driver. All the rest is just personal preference. Its like arguing whether blue or green is better. It really doesn’t matter as long as you enjoy the one you pick.
So your making a judgement on all muscle cars from one car and one driver who you and your friend most likely just pulled up next to at a light and decided you were gonna go fast not knowing who the other driver was or what he had in his car or even if he had the intention of racing you and you assume because he turned off you won LOL
That’s not street racing thats joy riding. When you street race you put your money where your mouth is. I know where I am putting my money and it hasn’t failed me yet LOL
No I make my judgement from the fact I have seen him whip countless V6s and V8s with a little 4 Cylinder Car. He only races legit for pinks. He will race for fun but I has to be at a light or with a friend. Only times he has lost were to a 8 Second supra and a 9 Second Skyline. I mean I used to love my mustangs till I ran a Dyno on the pieces of shit. I officially and willingly handed the titles over to my little sister for free. I mean not only do Imports run 1/4 mile fast if they are built right but they drift like a dream. Muscle cars on the other hand I have never seen drift without hitting anything or wrecking. But everyone else is entitled to their opinion. Paul Walker in The Fast and The Furious movie series plays Brian O’Connor and he knows whats up with the imports. Love all the imports in the movies.
That wasn’t wise really. There worth was not in there speed but in the gift left to you by someone you have repeatedly claimed you looked up to and have respect for. In that sense those cars are priceless.

I always find it odd when someone cant express there love for something without putting down something else to do it. If you love imports great drive imports and love them on there merits but dont disrespect the merits of muscle cars to validate your love for imports. Its almost like you feel guilty and have to justify why you love them.
I do respect everything about my dad except his faulty choice is Vehicles. F.O.R.D. Found On Road Dead, fords are so inconvient to work on. Heck Chevys and GMs are the way to go if you decide you go American. What takes 3-4 hrs to do on a Ford can be done on a Honda and a Chevy in 1-2. My Sister Is keeping the Cars. The Only Ford I still like is My Grand Fathers Ford Galaxy. That’s a classic. But I consider muscle cars to be like Chevy Novas, Chargers,Challengers, Dusters,Road Runners. Javelins, Super Bird,GTOs and Z28s. Not Mustangs, or Corvettes those are sports cars.

Come on now, your just grasping for straws. Fords are no more hard to work on the Chevy or GM. Imports however are extremely hard to work on. Hard to get parts for, the engine compartment is to small and packed in. etc etc…
Do you know why more squirrels are found dead in the road over any other animal in the NE ? Not because the squirrels are bad, slow… not as good as the rest of the wild life. There just happens to be more squirrels then other animal running around. It doesn’t speak of there character but there population. Its the same with Fords, its the most popular car in America. Statistically they dont break down more then any other car. There are just more of them out there then any other car.
Jabez just say you love imports because they make you feel happy, you enjoy them, they make you feel good… its ok you dont have to justify it by finding reasons other cars are not as good. Its just a personal preference. I like blue better then green but that doesnt make green any less then blue. It just makes it a different color. If you feel good driving your car whatever it is then thats attractive. Thats confidence. Drive what makes you happy.
I’m just kinda confused, the direction of the topic seems drastically different from what the thread title would imply.
When I read the original title I suspected that it more of a general survey of female members to guage if women have a particular preference for certain types of cars. Which can be an interesting topic for a lot of guys to get insight on if they’re interested in a particular “type” of girl. But really it’s starting…well beyond starting to just be a “muscle cars suck, imports rule” thread. Which is fine if that’s your preference, just seems contrary to the implication of the thread title. Kinda like asking somebody how they’re doing and then ignoring the answer and being more interested in telling them how you’re doing instead.
That aside, a couple of points. While I don’t question your personal experiences with muscle vs imports, I’ve been looking at all kinds of youtube vids (some posted but not all) and it seems that while imports are good coming off the starting line, they tend to lose against muscle in most quarter mile races. I’d say conservatively 7-3 in favor of muscle and usually by a full second. So I don’t get the whole “slow” thing.
You also have to realize that preference in cars will vary depending on another persons priorities. For example, go to a car show in a town with a heavy Latin population and brag about how fast your car is. Nobody will care. Lowrider culture will be more about the comfort and luxury of a smooth ride, having a wet bar that comes out of the glove compartment, a sound system that really emphasizes the bass and a colorful and artistic paint job…at the risk of stereotyping my own culture, a naked aztec woman airbrushed on the hood is almost essential. It’s about cruising culture and they gladly sacrifice speed for comfort of a large old detroit car that can fit a person taller than 5’6.
As for drifting…while it’s popular with a lot of young people today as a risk/thrill sport, usually the idea of handling is to have the car GRIP the road. Telling a muscle car enthusiast that his car sucks compared to imports because of the drifting issue is like telling an NBA all star that he’s a shitty athlete because he can’t hit a major league fast ball.
Low Riders are a Different Story they are the shit. They Cruise for fun. One of my buddies has a Delta 88 he’s gonna convert to a low rider. Already got his Hydrolics in Place. Just gotta redo the interior and then paint the Bad Boy. I also love Caddys.
