I’m thinking of buying new speakers soon, perhaps with birthday/Christmas money. I’m not looking for a stereo system, as I don’t have the living space for anything like that. I just want a decent set of speakers to plug into my computer or wherever I see fit. I don’t know that much about the subject and don’t really have the time to do a lot of research on it, so I’m here for a little help. (I also know that a few of you on this forum are audiophiles.)
Your best bet is going to be to go to a computer or electronics store and listen for yourself and decide what you like.
If you have a stereo system with a digital optical input and it’s in close enough proximity to your computer, you could always get a sound card for the computer with a digital optical out, then run a fiber optic cable from the computer into your stereo system, which would probably sound far better than just about any computer speakers you were to get.
I was runing my pc’s as media centers and tying them into my tv and stereo system ever since the first video cards has S-Video connections and sound cards had digital outputs. And long before Bill Gates ever dreamed up the Windows Media Center edition.

Krix Speakers ROCK, but very expensive
what’s your budget? It’s kind of hard to tell what kind of speakers you want by your post: computer speakers that plug into a sound card?
If that’s the case, I really like the Klipsch 2.1 speakers that you can find at best buy.
Klipsch are very good speakers as well
klipsch is over-rated, like bose. not saying they sound bad, but they has a poopoo price/performance ratio.
Well, what do you expect for computer speakers?
I love my AV123 rockets for home theater, but I don’t think he’s looking to plop 2k down on a pair of floorstanders.
I use logitech z-5500’s. They have an extremely high rating for computer speakers and they can hookup to anything (6 channel, coax, optical). They do dolby DTS and Prologic movie/music. Affordable price and alot of output. Also a good sound card will really optimize the performance. What’s your price range and i can make some suggestions for speakers and sound cards (maybe onboard sound is best for you?).

I have a set of logitech Z-550 speakers (yes to older version of the Z-5500 series 500 w system) and they sound as good or better than the $3800 component system my neighbor has.
my woofer is very adequate for my small apartment, and when my system was about the same price as my neighbor’s subwoofer. Some $300 Polk audio sub he has that he thought could walk on water, yeah it hits harder and is louder, but all that does is annoy the neighbors.
