Me? Noble? Phhht.

So i’ve come to the realization that i don’t like my job. It’s not what I do…computer tech stuff comes naturally to me, so it’s not that. It’s the type of company I work for. I labor five days a week to help someone above me in the food chain make a buck…and that’s it. The company isn’t one that has a marked effect on the community at all. We make a product, which makes a profit. That’s it.

so I’ve decided to start job searching and trying to find somewhere better to work…a non-profit organization, hospital, school…somewhere that I can say what I do helps the community. So far, no success…job market sucks balls right now as we all know. I was explaining this to one of my female friends (ex-gf) and she said that she never expected to hear something so noble come out of me. Noble? Hahaha…yeah…good one.

I started thinking about it…is that a noble endeavor? Doesn’t feel noble, it just feels better than what I’m doing now. Thought I might toss this out, see if she’s off her rocker or I’m just detached from “nobility” somehow.

It is certainly noble to strive to live accorfing to your values

Noble actually has several definitions. Yes, one of them is “being of high rank or social status”. But another one, which I think is what your friend meant, is “Being on a high intellectual or moral level”. Another definition says “To have good character and high ideals”.

Because feeling more comfortable in a job that does more for the community definitely shows that you have higher moral standards, because you know (and too bad more people don’t know) that life is not just all about making a buck.

I absolutely agree with Sillykitty. The last 2 types truly make individuals great people if the acts/ projects/ jobs they adopt reflect sincerity in themselves.
