music that pumps you up?

TOTO?

i agree with soca

i don’t know if you are into electronica at all, but some good drum’n’bass can get you amped. personally when I’m doing cardio, i’m all about the happy hardcore - high bpms = harder workout.

Nunya:

Toto - Africa

I hear the drums echoin´ tonight
She hears only whispers of some quiet conversation
She´s coming in, twelve thirty flight
Moonlit wings reflect the stars that guide me toward salvation

I stopped an old man along the way
Hoping to find some old forgotten words or ancient melodies
He turned to me as if to say
“Hurry boy, she´s waiting there for you”

It´s gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There´s nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had

The wild dogs cry out in the night
As they grow restless longing for some solitary company
I know that I must do what´s right
Sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti
I seem to cure what´s deep inside
Frightened of this thing that I´ve become

It´s gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There´s nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had

I guess that makes me one who likes the “life-affirming lyrics”

This was a big hit back in 1982. Their other hits were “Rosanna” and “Hold the Line”.

Other suggestions:

Tina Turner - Simply the Best (don’t know how I forgot this one before)
Oasis - Morning Glory (the song not the albumn)
Quiet Riot - Come on Feel the Noize
Men at Work - Land Down Under

Can’t believe you know Johnie Clegg, Lor. Respect for that!

Matt

Indeed they are

i dont own his stuff.
i like him though.
i heard some songs, and it reminds me alot of 60’s/70’s folk music. i REALLY got into that.
his music changes too, from this reggae-ish sound to something more american.

Are you serious??

This is the typical “Jukebox Standards” playlist for me when I have 2387498237 hours of work to do and only 1 hour of time to do it:

And first and foremost, learn every last lyric to every last one of these songs. Time distortion happens in between the lines you sing. It’s like putting 30 seconds in and getting 5 minutes out!

Motley Crue - Dr Feelgood
Van Halen - Running with the Devil, Jump!
Queen - [learn the lyrics FIRST] Bohemian Rhapsody
Journey - Don’t Stop Believin’
ZZ Top - Legs

… WHY am I having a brainfart right now?? I can’t think of ANYTHING.

… oh crap, me and that toto song have some fond memories. This is prop-up-on-the-bathroom-counter, singing into a hairbrush good times.

He lived in Zimbabwe for a long time - where my mom is from. She loves him. When he got married, the ceremony was a traditional Zulu wedding celebration, as he is fluent in Zulu; and an “adopted son”. Total legend!

Matt

Journey - Don’t Stop Believing!

Now that is a song and a half Jas; seriously awesome. That song MADE the movie “Monster” for me.

And ZZ Top - Legs; too, brilliant. Ever seen the video? Me thinks thats where they got the idea for all those “She’s All That” -type movies

OK just have to add ONE Billy Ocean song (one principle - he is my Elvis  ):

When the Going Gets Tough, The Tough Get Going

And Def Leppard’s - Pour Some Sugar on Me

Matt

PS: More to follow

streeeet light peeeopleee

love that song

lol i know who Toto is - I just didn’t really think of them as “pump up” music.

but since you’re such an 80s fan - i think i need to make one suggestion.

Europe - The Final Countdown

yay stadium rock!

Well Toto’s Africa is a very inspirational song in my country, South Africa. Largely due to it being about our continent; it has been used in beer adverts etc.

Yes The Final Countdown, great suggestion. Bring back those hair bands I say!

Matt

i think i rebelled against the 80’s and fleetwood-mac’d it.
that and grateful dead.
i dressed like stevie nicks and threw darts at pictures of madonna.
:o oh well.

hahahaha-
anyone remember billy squire?
he was my first concert when i was little ! :open_mouth:

I have been to HUNDREDS of Dead shows! Talk about excess…

Billy Squire was great until he did that MTV video dancing around like a girl. It ended his career.:open_mouth:

Even though I am way too young to “remember” billy squire my first concert ever was Jane’s Addiction (Flea on bass). That was one of the best most energetic performances I’ve seen to this day.

Irene Cara - Flashdance… What A Feeling

Matt

where to begin???

"baba o’riley " by the who
"seven " by sunny day real estate
“hum” by the sheila divine
“anything,anything” by dramarama
“smooth criminal” by micheal jackson
“hold my life” by the replacements
"bodies"by smashing pumpkins
“stars” by switchfoot
“MF from hell” by the datsuns

and pretty much anything by the ramones…

i agree witht he ramones. I can’t agree with Smooth Criminal tho, but that’s a totally personal issue.

yeah- it’s not in my typical listen-list, but some songs just bring you back to a time & a place & you’re stuck there…

haha! well that’s my issue - I used to work at a gym, and one summer, we had this wierd mix tape club music system. And every single mix had Smooth Criminal, and Madonna’s “Music”

like 20 times a day, i heard those 2 songs. every day. :frowning:

yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk!

slipknot - wait and bleed

RATM - renegades of funk (ya know i prefer their “other stuff” but this one is positive…)

Joan Jett - your going to make it after all (anyone who likes punk remakes will love that)

mudvayne - not falling

korn - adidas

BTO - some kind of wonderful

david allen cole - you never even called me by my name

bee gees - stayin’ alive

sponge bob square pants- jellyfish jam
