Ok, so I really like Fedoras. I bring mine everywhere I go, and mostly get compliments and looks. Only received some grief about it from another dude who thinly veiled his insults and insinuations that I’m gay. Oh well.
I LOVE fedoras and the way they look. I think they’re really badass. I just can’t seem to pull it off. It’s probably also cause I CAN’T pull it off with the clothes I wear… =
Sigh, if only. Seen so many fedoras I just love. Pin stripe fedoras with a nice pinstripe suit… zomg. xDDDD
Guess I could always just buy them and collect them, but I don’t have the money to do that. o_O;;
For me, I have to settle for regular baseball caps, but it’s not something I REALLY love or collect. My bro is a watch and sneaker guy, have a few friends who are all about shoes. I think you’re the first guy I know that has this strange attraction for fedoras like I do.
I can’t abide a fedora. Now, don’t get me wrong, they look nice and all, but they’re just not for me.
Of course, my ex-husband wore one a lot and really liked them, so I’m probably associating fedoras with him. So it is a biased opinion, and don’t let it sway you in any way.
btw, pherofreak, darlin’… I don’t know if I ever thanked you for that picture you sent me.
Yeah, I have a cousin who said she thinks I’d look good in a fedora because she sees a greaser/rockabilly look in me even though that’s not even what I try to dress like. I’m more of a rock type of guy, chucks and jeans with messy/spiky hair so who knows where she got that from. But they do look cool, obviously they just wouldn’t go well with chucks and jeans LOL.
hah, apparently they don’t go well with street/urban wear either. Well, I dress a lot of skater/urban. SOMETIMES they can go well with certain clothes, I just don’t have those clothes and those clothes don’t really look good on me. It’s ok Mikoto, we’ll rock our own style and do our own thing and get by juuuuust fine. Hope you’re doing well! =)
Ha, ha for sure man! For hats (when I do wear them) I usually just wear these. Or military cadet hats, but usually I don’t wear hats too much as I am not really a hat type of guy, plus I have a big head… LOL.
oh how I could… ah well, leave the dirty jokes out. It’s kinda early in the morning for that.
But I have the opposite situation. Apparently I have a really small hat size and my bro already jocks that style with that hat. Not too sure I’d look good in it, but hey, you never know till ya try. I use to be a huge hat guy cause I was too lazy to put gel in my hair. Use to pretty much wear a hat EVERY day for a while. Just got use to it.
Yeah fedoria’s are the ONLY kind of hat that I actually look good in… a few times through out the years I tried to rock the scull cap but with my long hair I just end up looking like Jay (from Jay and Silent Bob.)
The nice thing about fedoria’s are that they are one of the few mens hats you can wear these days that actually make you look soficicated and upscale. Most men’s hats make the wearer look like a douchebag, a drug addict, a trucker or a gangsta… none of which is something I strive for.
Interesting, a lot of people compare Obama with Kennedy.
Years ago most men wore Fedoras then Kennedy went hatless to his inauguration and Fedoras went out of style. Now Obama comes into office and Fedoras come back into style.
You can wear anything and make it look upscale with the right body language and a good presence. I got into this very high-class 5 star underground club wearing some red converse chuck taylors, ripped jeans, a red preppy shirt, and red sunglasses on top of my spiky hair. I got in that club with no trouble while every dude in there was in suits. I put those those suits in shame. Would you rather stand out or look upscale?
For you guys saying “I can’t pull that off”, next time try wearing something you normally would not wear like a cowboy hat or a fedora at a mall and just walk around with it, you will feel a bit uncomfortable at first but you are expanding your comfortable zone. Then you will say to yourself “I can pull anything off!”.
eh, that might’ve been the discretion of the doorman. when i was in cali running up and down the coast, most places had a “no sneakers” rule and the doorman would turn you away even as he saw you walk down the block.
i agree though, it’s nice to stand out from the rest. girls appreciate it when you’re not just another blockhead with shiny square-toe black shoes, baggy jeans, and an oversize button-down pinstripe smock.
You’ve got that right Taibo. For a very long time I thought wearing nice or different clothes gave off the gay vibe. I was just outside of the loop on fashion. Now I can comfortably wear a very peacockish outfit anywhere, and feel comfortable. I know the looks I am getting aren’t of disgust, they are of admiration.
In my case for that night, it was a ‘doorwoman’ lol and she was hot! Even though there was another doorman and police officer standing at the entrance, they check ID’s and I rather show mines to her. No one gave me shit, I was dressed out of place and I looked cool so access granted! The club had a formal dress code, every guy was in a suit and ladies were in sexy dresses. I was the only guy in jeans and tennis shoes, talk about standing out! I was also the only Asian person in there too haha. I was marinated in pheromones that night including A314 so that could have been a factor.
Probably also the fact that you were “different,” while everyone looked the same (all in suits.) Basically you standing out, probably made you stand out more to their eyes so it made them welcome the change from the norm with letting you in. Plus that and the pheros.
