Never mind this rant in the desert

This forum’s award system is intended to let peers outline great posts or reports from fellow users. Self-nominations kinda take away the credibility of the whole system. But hey, that’s just my opinion . Any thoughts?

I will agree on this totally and I hope they take notice and redo something here as the button is missing a lot from the other areas from the forum to. I totally agree though I know a while back I would get frustrated when I would work my but off and I would see another post get an award that was just ok and I could have nominated my own, but I would never want to win this way.

I see the dam nomination button right there but I won’t hit it and to me is pointless as it is a lot of work to make a great post and I personally do it for other members not myself because I hand write everything in a paper journal before I put it here. I am ranting now LOL. But yes I agree with you Conjurator.

(sorry specialisterne, but bumping thread)

Guys. The rant is heard.

I guess the best way to address this is to report to us immediately any active nominations for “undeserving posts” before the week ends.

We can still review the post and withdraw any active nominations during that period, if we found out that it’s obviously a result of an accidental click or its an unwitting nomination.

Otherwise, it will never be erased.

I think the original intent is to give any community members freedom to nominate any post they find cool, informative, or anything that make them conclude it’s the best post they’ve read for the week.

But accidents do happen. There are cases of unintended clicks too.

I am in fact a “victim” of this. I am not even aware what posts of mine were nominated. (Edit: now I’m aware, I know where to look now hahaha!)

Anyway, another way to address this is by not voting for it.

I actually consulted the management about this.

Apparently, it was allowed, even in the past, for one to self-nominate. As long as the post is great such act is considered okay.

Withdrawing nominations are also being practiced in the past, so be assured that if anyone from the community reported an unworthy nomination, we will verify the post and withdraw nominations if the post is found unworthy of one.

Thanks for the feedback Dee and thanks for explaining the official position on this .

I was only expressing my personal opinion. I still personally vow never to nominate myself because I’d see that as a form of intellectual masturbation . Tee-hee.

Based on the forum’s rules, I’ll let others do what they see fit, though.

Peace.

I respect that and am actually in the same page with you.

The side-explanation I got is that, if someone just wanted to give himself/herself a little self-love then it should not be of big deal for us moderators. And since we are in a community of people with different views coming from different angles, it sounds reasonable.

But of course it’s a different story if it’s reported and found out that the nominated post does not deserve to be labeled as “best”.

Nice rant by the way. Constructive one. Very helpful.
