Only civilians in oil producing countries lives are important!

I admit its the first time in my life I am disappointed in being an American. All these western nations jump to “protect” civilians only when OIL is involved. So why no action in Somalia, any African nation at all? Tibet, Timur, Burma? Oh that’s right because they don’t have oil. There civilian lives mean nothing.

A sad, sad day in history

Exactly my thoughts, Steve. Thank you for posting this.

(grabs the pot)

There are plenty of reasons why. Oil I believe being one of them but also remember that the US did not want to do any actions, according to reports. It was only until Lebannon asked the U.N. security council on behalf of the arab nations to take action at that point.

Remember too however that just because military action did not happen in other parts of the globe, that there aren’t help being sent that way in the form of monetary funds. As for tibet, no one is going to try and piss china off, unfortunately, which is sad but a reality on the international incident that would occur if that were to take place.

Gaddafi is right on this one. The people he is attacking are not civilians, they are heavily armed rebels, and rebellion is illegal everywhere. Brutal dictator or not, he has a right to defend his government from the rebels.

It sets a bad precedent. Will any mob of rebels who attack their government be protected from retaliation by the UN?

We need to mind our own business.

You best be trolling!!!

I have to disagree with you on this one Steve. The motives behind taking action or not taking action may not be the best but we need to mind our own damn business right about now. We are not in a good position at all as a country and we can not afford another war or lengthy occupation. We need to focus on our own problems and safety.

You just agreed with me .

So why didn’t we get involved in Iran? The regime murdered their people. They begged for help:o

LOL

Yeah I was tired and had a few drinks before logging on so needless to say I misinterpreted what you were saying. Ignore the part where I said I disagree with you haha. You are very right and the thing about the other nations you named (other than Iran), there is more chance of this recent situation spiraling out of control than in those other countries. Basically what I’m trying to say is there is more risk involved intervening here. The oil makes it worth it I guess? It’s ridiculous that we’re even this dependent on oil with the technological advancement that are made everyday, let alone bombing countries to protect/acquire it.

Actually, add Tibet to that “(other than Iran)” because of China like P said.

I need to go to sleep lol.

This is just what I’ve read on news sites like CNN over the years. The initial action was taken because it was pushed on by the arab nations. If they don’t all agree you risk setting off more conflicts in the middle east.

On a side note, anyone follow nostradamus?

Ya, it is funny what we do for oil and sadly a 2008 Govt survey shows there is enough oil under US soil to supply our current rate of consumption for the next 300yrs and we have more oil then all the OPEC nations combined, yet he gets on TV and lies to the nation saying we only have 2% of the worlds oil when it is really more like 80%, all beacause the libtards don’t want us drilling where the oil is…and they are cool with $80+Billion a day going overseas, what good would $80billion a day do for local economies here? And since the left doesn’t think it is fair our national average for income is so much higher then everywhere else, they are trying to “make it more fair” aka destroy our nation…taking it from the shining city on the hill to a soon to be 3rd world socialist abomination…why not just look at history and understand it isn’t gonna work this time, we need to but out entirely and learn to become self sufficient…but til states start ceceeding from the union it will never change through voting…

CNN? Well THAR’S your problem.

Well, looking back in history, a few western countries (USA, UK, France) have had some problems with Gaddafi for quite a few years. Both CIA and MI6 attempted to kill him a couple of times. Over the years, at least four Libyan airplanes were shot down by mistake by american forces while flying over Libyan waters. Not to mention the bombings of Tripolis and Bengazi in 1986. Right now, all these countries take part in the war. Of course madame Clinton said that USA don’t want to participate in any military operation in Libya. But the fact is, few hours later they did just that. Asked for it by Arab Nations League? Well, there are some people there who want to replace Gaddafi, that’s obvious. Nothing to do with the oil? Yeah, right. There was obviously nothing to do with the oil in Iraq, as well. Especially when Holliburton was fairly and unbiasly chosen to be the company to take care of Iraq’s oil fields. Is it a coincidence that Holliburton’s co-owner Dick Cheney was US’ vice-president at that time? I don’t know much about politics, because it’s just too disgusting to became interested. But some things are really easy to see. Is there any oil in Iran? In Chechnya? In North Korea?
I don’t think that Muammar Gaddafi is a nice guy. He’s obviously a violent dictator. But will those who are about to replace him any better? Will there be democracy in Libya? Or maybe rather will there be a clone of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad?

Uh, not to start a political debate here, but it was a Republican president that started the wars we’re currently stuck in.

You know what? Fuck oil!!! This is Goddamn 2011!!! We really need to evolve. Start developing wind energy and magnetics and shit like that. I guarentee we have the technology, but it’s probably being supressed due to a political agenda. You’re telling me our top scientists and researchers have developed ways to set our DVR’s to record a show while we’re at the grocery store, we can put our phone up to the speaker and analyze the soundwaves to find out the name of a song, but we still have no alternative to oil. Screw that!
Oh, and as far as Republican vs Democrat…they’re both full of shit. They’re being controlled by the same masters. I mean come on. Nothing is changing…if anything shit’s getting worse. Just thought I’d share my perspective.

And a democrat stuck us into a Libyan war :stuck_out_tongue:

A few years back, a polish scientist came up with the idea - if virtually all plastics are made of petroleum, there must be a way to reverse this process. And he found the way. He built a device to do this. It converts plastics into very clean petroleum. Even if there are different kinds of plastics together, unseparated, like polyethylene, polypropylene etc. Even if they are very dirty - in that case the machine separates the dirt. That means not only the problem of energy sources would be sorted, but also the problem of excessive wastage. The guy was awarded by UN, by Greenpeace and many scientific and environmental establishments. So what? There are more powerful people who don’t want that invention to replace their “old school” ways of getting oil.

I suspect it has more to do with cost. His oil is probably more expensive to produce and likely not able to produce the vast quantities that we use for a modern society. It is a good idea though.

Yep there may be a huge amount of oil in America, but there are a few things you aren’t thinking of. Number one, how long it would take to get it out of the ground and how much we could refine etc vs how much we use. So our number one priorities become protecting the supply line that we currently have, because if we lose it we are dead in the water. Number 2 becomes replacing oil with other fuels/technology. Number 3 is drilling in our own country.

One thing you guys don’t seem to be thinking about is why we wouldn’t want to use the oil in our country. China recently passed us in the amount of oil they use. This is business people. If the oil prices are being propped up by China and you own the largest oil reserve, why would you start flooding the market with cheap oil? Yes we are protecting our interest in the Middle East. Because as soon as they run out, the world will be reliable on our oil reserves, and that includes China. Why do you think our politicians and administration is so arrogant? Everybody enters the White House saying the same thing, but when they get there, they realize the truth. We are the only democracy in the history of the world that rules an empire.

In order to do that we are leveraging other countries resources to protect our own.
