Pheromones on stargate atlantis

I don’t if anyone else here follows the stargate series on sci fi (I’m a closet geek ), but in the episode of stargate atlantis that aired last Friday, one of the characters (a male) on the episode used pheromones to keep the people of his village under his control - both men and women. Interestingly enough, this is the second time pheromones have been referenced to in the stargate series. The first time was a couple of years back, when a female character used pheromones to seduce all the males into her submission.

The major distinction between the two episodes was the fact that in the earlier episode, pheromones were viewed as something that works strictly on the opposite sex, for purely seductive purposes. In the newer episode, the folks under the influence of mones included both men and women, and the reaction was more of a friendly attachment and amazement at the wearer. The effects were highly exaggerated of course, but they seemed to react the way people do with high levels of alpha and betanol.

Goes to show that the mainstream perception of pheromones is changing, and is now acknowledging the social aspects of pheromones…at least from the standpoint of stargate lol.

I love the Stargate series! There was also an episode where Major Sheppard was infected by a young female wraith who drugged herself with an experimental vaccine that would theoretically transform her into a human. Maj. Sheppard secreted pheromones that enabled him to blend with these dangerous bug-like organisms and was able to steal stem cells that would save his life.

Also on Stargate SG1, an alien naturally secreted a powerful pheromone that encouraged complete trust in the person wearing it. Daniel Jackson used it to become Lord Hu’s trusted servant in hope to infiltrate the Gouauld System Lord’s summit and deliver a bioweapon targeting symbiotes.

Thanks for starting this thread!

i wonder if pheromones will ever become “movie” popular as in because some actor wore them in a movie… i know stargate is a good series (never watched it myself) but i mean seriously would they?

anything is possible. I would like to see pheromones travelling through the air with CSI special effects…
Perhaps one of us should create a pheromone-based fictional story?

wow… it would be really cool to see this stuff on a real tv show… (yes i know its a cheap shot :-)) but yeah very cool

But then OUR SECRET would be out! NOOOOOOOOOO!

Actually they did that in an episode of CSI once, and yeah they did the little computer generated ‘zoom’ trick they often do, and showed the pheromones.

One of the guys in the episode just so happened to be a PUA…he spiked pheromones into a time-controlled fragrance dispenser…you know those things that alternate different fragrances at certain time intervals. Anyway, they were able to ‘place’ one of the suspects in the room at the time of the murder because they found exaggerated levels of synthetic human pheromones on his shirt…Meaning he would have had to have been in the room at the time the fragrance dispenser switched to the pheromone spiked one fragrance. Busted! The writers for CSI…I don’t know how they think of the things they do, but they’re really good.

I do not doubt that we could pull it off! Pheremones are becoming more and more popular. Today on Oprah, she had a doctor mentioning pheremones. I bet this site gets tons of hits thanks to that mention! Imagine what would happen if an entire population were to start wearing pheros. I think there’d be SERIOUS NEGATIVE stuff going on!

PS- I prefer FARSCAPE to SG, and SG1!:stuck_out_tongue:

Ohh, ohhh, ohhhhhh. Yumm.
To own that wardrobe. dreamy

snake pheromones for snakes on a plane

if a shit loa dof people started buyign pheromones i bet it would take longer to get our stuff :-D… man i hate waitng lol… i wanted it last year

Goes to get a hold of schedule for cable ASAP, since “The Man” watches this reverently, and does NOT know a thing about pheromones - which is exactly how it is going to stay…

Ail

Imagine a world where everyone used exogenous pheromones like us to reach a goal. What an exciting concept! Why should we keep it (pheromones) to us, to maintain an ‘advantage’? But the reality is, people in general may not be ready to accept the truth about the effectiveness of pheromones. Could tv perpetuate the idea?

Battlestar Galactica all the way

we all have an inner geek in there somewhere. lol I think it gives our personalities a little more ‘depth’ lol

The general mass media projects exaggerated expectations of how pheromones are supposed to work. With good reason, I don’t think most people would be willing to buy into the idea that ‘if I spray this on, women will want to sleep on me’. This also raises a number of ethical red flags, if pheromones really did work that well.

There’s too much consumer risk involved in trying pheromones, and it takes a certain type of individual to even consider buying them…it takes an even more patient, open minded type of consumer to continually experiment to the point if really understanding how pheromones work, and to be able to consistently produce good results.

At the present time, pheromone use is far too complicated of a process for it to realistically blow up on a mainstream scale. There’s too much individual variability from person to person to realistically promote a product for mainstream use…one that consistently produces justifiable results, and widespread consumer value from buyer to buyer.

Unless someone is really willing to put the time, money, and effort into regularly experimenting, whether or not someone see’s justifiable results in the first couple of trials is largely a matter of luck. I suspect that many of the newer users who do get into pheromones, give up very early on when they don’t live up to their expectations right away…especially those who buy into media inflated expectations, or shady marketing techniques from less reputable companies like pherlure.

All that being said, the level of consistency and effectiveness with pheromones has gone up dramatically in the past year or so, as Androtics has continually pushed the bar higher and higher. Having used a good number of products from other manufacturers in the past, I must say that Androtics is a very large step beyond the stuff I had been using in the past. They’ve introduced an overwhelming amount of new pheromones and mixes…new perspectives to pheromone use in general that I wouldn’t have imagined two years ago. Given the level of innovation they’ve introduced just in the past year…I’m wondering how far we’ll have come 2, 3 years from now.

You are right. There is nothing to worry about pheromones going mainstream. Which is not bad for me, since I tend to enjoy swimming against to flow!

I wouldn’t want to be normal!

Me, neither!!

Only cable I got is for car battery jumpers. No Farscape! No Adult Swim. Waaaaaaa!

SG-1 was pretty good. Seen only a few Atlantis. Galactica classic - fun but dumb. Galactica - new … I still like the old version Cylons. Okay, the babes are “hot…” but as a nerd third-class I gotta go for the mecha/cyborgs. Kos-Mos. oooooh hot! Vesper warrior android turned maid. ooooh cute! (Anime).

Nice new pic Ail. You look so… pink…

I’m no geek but i’m addicted to Star Trek voyager, star wars, star trek the next generation, star trek deep space nine, star trek enterprise!!!

I LOVE YOU STAR TREK!!!
IF SOCIATY WAS READY TO ACCEPT DIFFERENCES I WOULD PROBABLY BE DRESSED IN STAR TREK LIKE THIS:

I HAVE NEVER TALKED ABOUT STAR TREK TO ANY FRIENDS BEFORE, PEOPLE IN QUÉBEC HATE SCIENCE FICTION, IT’S PRETTY SAD!

I love startrek too! Next gen, voyager, DS9, was disappointed with Enterprise though.

Stargate is a good substitute though!
