Most of the Gospels were derived from having the same central message. These were known as the synoptic gospels. A couple of them had sources from the “Q” document where it is believed that two of the Gospels were based off of that document because of the similarities between the two Gospels. One of the other authors (not John) had elements from the prior two. So the current writings of the Gospels now weren’t (at least throught) from the apostles or deciples. They were interpretation based on stories passed down and long after Jesus’ death approcimately 40-60 AD.
Yes Josie, I believe it’s the closest thing on the truth based on the underlying message any literal interpretation without correct translation or the right context would probably be incorrect.
TL;DR version
Follow the underlying message, not the actual wording.
Remember the bible wasn’t written in english, and there are definitely certain aspects that were lost in translation.
P.S. sorry for the little amount of details. I’m going back years here from my theology classes.
Well this is exactly what I’m saying. The translations are all messed up. The problem really is the English language. It’s too simplified. When studying Greek text the translations don’t always match up. One word can change the entire context of a chapter.
This is what I am sure about. The culture is Love God and Love others as you Love yourself. Even the word “Love” can be translated incorrectly. The word “Love” is 4 different words in Greek. Agape, Eros, Phillia, and Storge are all translated as Love in the English versions of the Bible. Yet they mean very different things. Eros being attraction, and what we talk about here. Agape being true love, move of an open unrestricted love.
There are other things in the Bible that really capture my attention. NLP, positive thinking, and even “pheromones” appear to be suggested in the Bible. Along with basic principals such as giving in order to receive.
I got a little carried away, but this truly is one of my passions.
For Olam, btw I like this nickname for you, I think if you grasp this one truth and obey it there is nothing you will ever need to think about again. God is Love (Agape). “God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him”
If everyone submits themself to love, then all religions and government could be put away. It really is that simple.
Oh one more translation. The word Church comes from the Greek word Ecclesia. Ecclesia is a political word that means “the called out ones under authority”.
