In a series of studies, more than 300 upper- and lower-class people were asked the interpret the emotions of people in photos and of strangers during mock job interviews. In both cases, those with more education, money and self-defined social status weren’t nearly as adept at figuring out if a person was angry, happy, anxious or upset as their lower class colleagues.
Hmmm, being able to read emotions of others and being able to feel compassion/empathy are two different things.
I’d expect someone who is incapable of reading others to have an easy time exploiting others, but also to be likely to be exploited. This is a common issue.
Those who can read the emotions of others well, yet feel no compassion…hmmm, not easy to deal with.
I don’t think it has anything to do with high class or low class. Some people just don’t care, that is all. It doesn’t mean all don’t. That is a huge generalization… I know many ‘High Status’ people that do care and show empathy/sympathy. Plus, waht is high status? We are all humans, so we should all be treated equal and fair
