We wanted to get the server redone and upgraded, but we didn’t expect that downtime!
Almost 26 hours, wow!
As this is done at a network operations center in Texas, with a admin we hire out of Virginia, most of the process was out of our hands in any direct way. Hopefully you guys called in and got the phone message I left so you knew what was going on. If not, my apologies!
Thankfully, the new server setup should keep us more stable and faster than ever.
Here’s what was done:
–> Switched to 15,000 RPM SAS drives (the new name for “SCSI”). Enterprise grade and SUPER FAST!
–> Switched to the very same bulletproof, hyperspeed DNS servers as the biggest ecommerce stores in the world – Amazon.com and NewEgg.com. Reliable and INSANELY FAST (2ms vs. 70ms average)!
–> Completely reloaded all server software. STABLE!
–> Switched to a new server management team that’s available by phone. One of the few. Thank god! ![]()
All said, the forum and store should be up to twice as quick as before, and much more stable. That means there was some unexpected pain there for a day, but everything will be almost twice as good until the next major upgrade. ![]()
We, ourselves, didn’t have access to the orders yesterday (as they’re stored here on our central server), but we’ll be scurrying around working our tails off getting anything remaining shipped today.
I’ll be opening the phone lines back up a little later today once I finish overseeing the server upgrade.
Hope you didn’t miss us too much!
All the best,
Jasmin
