I started looking into old time shaving products. I found out a lot of information that leads me to believe that they actually give a better shave.
A straight razor (scary!) and the old safety razors (less scary) cut better because they don’t try to pull your hair out before it’s cut. (which can also lead to ingrown hairs)
The most important part though is the shaving soap. I picked up some Mug Shaving Soap and a cheap shaving brush, plopped the bar into a bowl, added some water, then worked up a good lather.
Besides it being kinda fun, I got one of the best shaves I’ve ever had. I’m perpetually looking for a good shaving cream, oil, gel, or whatever else they have because they all suck. This shaving soap is the best so far. In addition it is said by the die hard users that shaving soap is better for your skin than any of the current products out there. I have to agree. This stuff cleans your skin very well and leave it moisturized.
What sparked my interest? General curiosity and increasing my game. Apparently using a shaving brush makes you appear much sexier to women. It’s something about a generational connection and manly appearance in your every day life. I saw some documentary the connection between shaving and intimacy about a year ago.
You can’t get those straight razors anywhere now, it seems. Damned Health and Safety goons jumped in and stopped them or something.
I have to agree with you about the attraction women feel to a man shaving the old-fashioned way. I remember watching my dad shave like that when I was younger. My mother seemed to go out of her way to kiss and cuddle when she saw him in the back room shaving.
When I was barely as tall as his knee, I used to watch too, and feel this connection to this giant 6’ 4" man, thinking, “This guy’s my dad.”
I used to play with the soap too. I don’t think you can get it any more either.
There’s something incredibly masculine about shaving with soap and razor. I’ve got to try it sometime, if I can get around the Health and Safety police.

if that’s what you’re talking about, it took me ten seconds with google to find it.
I don’t know the technical names, but I have always used the old shaver.. it’s a 1.49 for like 10 blades.. They are the double edge.. I hate shaving, i am a baby so it is a ritual process. sometimes it is the scissors, then norelco and then the old double edge. I have the single edge shaver and the double edge shaver i bought at an antique store 10 years ago. I do not recommend dry shaving unless you have bad acne. and i would say to shave before you shower
Tip to extend the life of any razor blade:
After you finish shaving make sure you dried the blade (shaking, blowing, etc) try to remove as much water as you can.
Then place 1 drop of machine oil in a q-tip and dab the blade.
This will slow the natural oxidation of the blade thus extending the life of it, also make sure you dab all the unused blades too.
Have you ever notice that brand new scisors, knives, hair clippers, etc have and olily film, is there to prevent rust, how come shaving razor don’t ?.. welcome to the razor-blade (printer-ink) business model.
They give you an almost free or low cost razor and then you have to phony up big money for the blades (usually as much as a new razor “Gillette fusion” anyone).
By using this tips you will extend the life of the blade, however keep in mind that since you are no re-sharpening the blade eventually the blade will dull and wont shave as close to the skin as a new one, but you wont feel like your are shaving with a cat’s pawn.
