Social Barriers Too much?

I am psyched for college, but I want to make High School a memorable experience for myself as well. Heck, I don’t even care if I impress anyone because my good reputation is pretty much gone, so really I don’t care much anymore, but I kinda care on the inside the fact I’m still single and haven’t even kissed a girl.

Lol, that’s a big part of it I guess. But recently, it seems like college is like being with older high schoolers. Some people may think kids grow up too quickly nowadays. I disagree, some kids just never seem to grow up.

Social barriers..yeah, they’re a bitch. Money and class is always a difficult barrier to break through. Usually, the people end up resenting those who try and cross those class barriers. Either the ‘poorer’ people end up resenting the ‘uptight snob’, or the ‘richer’ people end up condescendingly judging the ‘uncultured commoner’. If those are the kinds of barriers you face, I would start socializing with people who are more accepting of others.

Even if you’re not a jock, there are plenty of cute girls around. It’s just that those girls are likely to be ‘rebellious’ girls who go against the female status quo of looking pretty, all made up and spotless. I see a similar condition here in college. The fraternities and sororities are the equivalent of the jocks and cheerleaders. Sure, the sorority girls look cuter at first glance, but that’s because they spend the majority of their time trying to look cuter. I mean really, who the hell comes to school with wearing fishnets and ‘fuck-me’ boots? Sure grab my attention, but they wouldn’t give me the time of the day unless I was affliated.

Honestly, if you want to get across those kinds of barriers, you need to make yourself look socially desirable. Meaning, whatever you do to get the respect from the guys, while also getting the attention of the girls. Avoid the embarassing situations, blah blah blah, every teenage romance comedy…

I haven’t really read any of your reports so I can only give you general, stereotypical advice.

Edit: I didn’t even realize there was another page of responses. My personal opinion is that college is tight, but it’s also more hyped up in the movies and such than it really is. High school was pretty fucking fun for me, and there are times when I wish I could go back for a day or two. But then again, I would have appeared to be jock, girls were, for the most part, into me, and I had fun. Regardless, I know where you’re coming from and experienced similar frustrations myself.

If I delete everything else I wrote, only to keep one thought, it’s this:

Don’t look forward to college thinking it will solve your problems when you get here. Enjoy high school for what it is, just go out and have fun with the people who make you happy. If people give you shit, give them the bird. Learn about yourself, who you are, who you aren’t. Develop skills that you enjoy using. Meaning, if you like card tricks, do it. If you like acting on stage, do it. If you like dancing, do it. If you like music, do it. If you like games, do it (with the caveat that it’s not the most socially interesting skill). There’s a community for every interest out there. And there are cute girls in every interest out there. Don’t compromise yourself or your interests just to meet cute girls. They’ll see you for who you are, and if they can’t dig it - fuck em.

Go party if you want some action. Maybe easier said than done for some people in high school (cliques and all). But every social group parties in high school, even the outcasts. Go party, have fun. Get that kiss and move on to bigger and better things.
