some motivation

Hi some of you may know me some of you may notthe majority My names Tim. Currently trying to loose weight by hitting the gym everyday and walking/running/and sprinting 5 miles out a day. Currently I still live with my grandmother and my brother who is a 27 yr old looser and makes it his sworn duty to run me into the ground everyday. Now most of you will know all this negative energy hes putting out isn’t helping my attitude to work out everyday but somehow I have been doing it since Tuesday. For background in 2007 I weighed 280 pounds. I started working in the backroom at target and going to the gym afterward every day for an hour. I lost 20 pounds in a month. Then I plateaued for about a year because I got a gf again and y’all should know how that goes, so I stayed roughly at 260 for a little over a year I started eating like I used to except less because of my diet when I lost 20 pounds significantly shrunk my stomach. now I’m back at my grandmothers, much to my dismay, and I’m determined to get to at least 200. Since I’ve been back with a few weeks here and there of not going to the gym because of lost motivation so on and so forth I weighed 245 as I have lost 15, 10 of that in 1 week where I did 5 miles every other day and 30 minutes in-between. Now as of Thursday morn…afternoon I weighed in at 238. I need encouragement and positivity so I can keep myself going or I"m seriously gonna kill my brother. Even though I think he deserves it. Positive Encouragement pleeeease!

i don’t think you need any dude, you seem to be doing fine

well Friday was interesting. I dunno if its the alpha I put on or what but I snapped on my brother. See I’m truthful about my life, I’ve made my mistakes I’ve learned from them and I’ve moved on. My brother on the other hand CANNOT handle the truth, and thinks he never makes mistakes so he never learns anything. So yesterday we went back and forth so badly I figured out all he could do was bring up stuff I’ve moved on about or call me gay because I don’t have a gf; And every time I rebuttal-ed with a truth about how much of a looser he is and he got so ticked when I came home from work he didn’t say a word to me.. I hope it stays that way and I feel like I got some of “me” back. The man is 27 yrs old and acts like hes 12.. he types in caps when hes mad and does those childish things you wouldn’t expect a grown man to do, but all he is is mouth. He thinks that doing stuff to my possessions will get me, but all it will get is a bat upside his head. Thank god for him he hasn’t touched anything of mine. And he swears I can’t take a joke but he doesn’t seem to fathom that after a decade it stops being a joke and starts being the architecture of his demise. But I do feel like I finally Won and that’s saying something. Skirmish One down.. lets hope for his sake there won’t be a round Two.
Gotta watch us Saggitarians. Piss us off and we will Mind F*ck you. I feel better getting that out  now I just need to figure out what else I need to do to find my confidence wherever I lost it along the way. Dosvidonya for now.

Tim! First off congrats man! Going from 280 to 238, that rocks!!! I need to lose weight, but I’m having a real hard time making myself go jogging and lift weights. I was thinking that maybe there is a way to make your brother part of the solution rather than the problem. Is there a sport like racquetball or hoops that you are you confident you can best him at? Family has always been really important to me. I also realize living in close quarters can put a real strain on familial relationships, but you have to remember, when the chips are down, the only people that you can truly rely on are family. I wouldn’t suggest playing him at something that he has a huge advantage because you run the risk of making things worse, but if you are say, really good at hoops, you can keep him from running his mouth, or at least put it back in his face if he doesn’t while getting a great work out. As long as you are both gentlemen about your competition, it will likely help you become closer.

Actually in all honestly this isnt a game he has an advantage in.. he has nothing that can get me. And to me really family can screw you over just as much as the next person. Me and him have never meshed and I’m content to not talk to him and mind my own business, its when he starts calling me names and calling me a Homo that agitates me and makes my silver tongue whip out. I think hes projecting myself xD. So far in my family it hasn’t been roses and cream, and I’m trying to rise above it and make something out of myself so somebody can be proud of me. But as for my brother he will always be part of the problem. We are complete Polar opposites: He lies and rebels no matter what, and I’m Honest and a gentleman no matter what. I’ve tried to be nice to him and all I’ve got in return is shit in my face, and It’s not like I gave up easily, This has been going on since I turned 7. There’s nothing you can say or do to make him act like a decent human being. I’ve tried. He needs a Nice Big Cup of Reality shoved down his throat before he realizes, if ever, that he has no reason to be mean to me when I have done nothing to him to deserve it. And as for sports, I’m not real good at em. And for the weight-loss Don’t lift weights.. loose the weight first then lift cause muscle weighs more than fat. I eat like 230 calories after I wake up then I drink all day, I cold shouldered sodas years ago and I drink just tea and water, because sodas give me a headache immediately after I drink them. I have been trying to hit the gym early but I always get there around 10pm or something and I eat a normal dinner but I keep the portions small. 5 miles a day looses weight.. specially if u can pound it out in less than and hour. 5 mph jog is good if you can keep it up.. I myself alternate between 4/5 and 7mph and just switch when I get a little tired so I don’t fly off the treadmill, and because I’ve kinda trained myself for that speed. I used to walk at 3.5 but I upped it because my personal goal is to do 5 miles in 50 minutes and my current best time is 58 minutes.. but I’ve been kinda fizzling too quick lately because of this crap my brothers doing. Hopefully now that I’ve asserted that I refused to be walked on, I can focus on more important goals of mine: like learning how to play guitar and serenade some cutie.

Congratulations on the weight loss!

Living with your family can be frustrating at times, especially when grownups act immature. I love my mother, but living with her means that sometimes she annoys me to my wit’s end. It is good to get out of the house or into your own room for a bit if either is in a bad mood. I like to go for a walk in the park or do a little reading when that happens. Your brother sounds like he is frustrated about something, perhaps spiteful because of hurt feelings. No one drives another into the ground unless he is trying to distract from low self esteem. This can be very frustrating for you, but besting him in not the solution. If done a little, he will just get more frustrated and spiteful, if a lot, he may sink into a depression. Try looking for things he does right, and complimenting him on it. He may start working for your compliments or he may get off your back at least. If he keeps being a nuisance on a regular basis, moving out is probably best.
Good luck!

sadly need a job that pas me more than 13grand a year before i can move out.. and atm im waiting till march to get into an electricians apprenticeshipgotta take the aptitude test and you may be right about that but he is just a spiteful person to begin with… my grandma does more for him than she does for me and he treats her like crap and acts like this house is his. she got him a card to her chase credit card account With his name on it.. and he doesn’t appreciate anything. not making an excuse just saying he does nothing good for me to compliment him on. hes just an all around douche who has a VERY deluded sense of reality. I.E. people who play WoW or online games are automatically homosexual. We’ll at least I don’t get into peoples faces if they call me gay cause I’m secure in my sexuality hes not.. but like you said It’s aggravating when he acts like hes 12.

I think he is a Golden Child, research in on google and you may find something of interest. Was there dysfunction/abuse in your original family perhaps? Very immature and insecure, possibly narcissistic. That makes a hard person to live with. That said, for the moment it is your best option to make the best of it for the sake of your future. Remember that no matter what he does, as long as you have dignity, discipline and courage, he cannot take your real treasures away from you. It really sucks that he is walking all over your granny like that :frowning: You can be nice to her to compensate, but remember that the rest is between her and him. If she wants to accept his bad behaviour, support him and keep him around, it is in her power to do so. You cannot save her from him if that is not what she wants.

It can really feel like someone is crossing your boundaries when they get their hands on your stuff. You may want to a lock for your bedroom to protect your possesions and have a safe place to withdraw to. That can make it easier to ignore him and gives him less chance to touch your stuff. You may also want to connect with guys your age open to having a roommate for when you get your apprenticeship.

I think it is really admirable that you can be in this situation and find the discipline to lose all that weight! You have something amazing inside you that not everyone has.
I wish you much strength!
