State of the Union Message: Cynical Chuckle

Don’t want to start a political fire, but I want to share this bit of USA bitter humor:** George Bush & Co. Announce New Top 40 Rap Single:
“All We Are Saying, Is Give War A Chance.”**

That speech was FULL of propaganda. There’s pleny of reasons to doubt Bush’s brains, but the man knows how to appel to people’s emotional sides. The sappy heartwarmer anecdotes and the use of the word “evil” every time terrorists are mentioned…gah, I wish the majority of America was logical enough to see his words for what they are.

(That’s not to say I don’t think the terrorists are bad…but I don’t need emotional drivel pounded into me to make me support actions against them)

But it was one of his better speeches. I just wish he wasn’t so keen on sending more men to Iraq.

Well, it reminds me of a song by Billy Joel - “We didn’t start the fire”. Funny eh?

“Real war always has been to keep alive the light of civilization everywhere, and that the end of the world begins not with the barbarians at the gate, but with the barbarians at the highest levels of the state” - Ben Okri, Nigerian Booker prize winner.

I’d love to see what Bush would have to say if someone stealthily doused him with some Instant Honesty before one of his public addresses. That would be cuttin’ to the chase finally :stuck_out_tongue:

I would have fallen on the floor laughing, except I’m already on the floor!

Do U need Help? Have you fallen, and can’t get up? (remember those ads from TV?):smiley::smiley:

George W. Bush is a war criminal and under the definitions of the Geneva Convention and in accordance with the Nuremberg Trials should be hanged. The same can be said for any post-World War Two US President; even those with Nobel Peace Prizes.

Matt

haaaa Bush. I don’t understand how this guy could be re-elected. Don’t get me wrong, “freeing people” is a noble thing to do but facts are there and since the war “ended” in 2003, there has been far more death both civilians and military (US soldiers and Iraqis) then when the war was raging on.

Iraq never was strawberry shortcake land but unfortunately, the US invasion made things way worst then they were before. While terrorism did exist in Iraq before, it never reached the genocidal proportions we are witnessing today. For months and months, daily incidents… How is sending additionnal troops down there suppose to fix the situation ? This is a conflict of religion, power, a conflict that is strongly rooted in historical components that the American government seems to fail to understand completely. This is no war…

Anyways my 2 cents  You’ve probably all seen that a long time ago but for those who haven’t, here is an edit of Bush’s previous Union speech :

The only unforgivable dimension of the GW Bush campaigns and administrations for me is the demagoguery – inciting emotional, irrational responses to situations instead of cultivating and inviting reasoned policies and restraint.

Demagoguery debases the political and social currency and creates a toxic frame for dialogue – even complaining about demagoguery becomes suspect! :frowning:

I do think that the numbers of civilian casualties in this war are horrifying. Astonishingly under-reported. The Flag Project currently running at University of Oregon is a show-stopper, especially when you realize that each red flag represents one US soldier dead, but each white flag represents SIX civilians dead.

What do you call a war where the civilian deaths occur in a ratio of 50:1 to military casualties? Some would call that de facto terrorism, because no matter how “intentions” are rationalized, the effect is primarily on civilians.

War beckons me, at least war games, but knowing my luck probably war… and very soon.

As long as we support these kind of leaders, wars will exist! How many more mothers will have to bury their sons?:frowning:

“Mankind must put an end to war or war will put an end to mankind” - John F.Kennedy (United Nations, 1961)

Why anyone would WANT to be president dumbfounds me… You always hear people say… “There are a lot better paying jobs for what I do” LOL… It’s a very challenging world to be living in, and in the political world it seems to force you to make decisions that go beyond what could have possibly been anticipated…

LOL… That’s a great quote… Spoken by the only man in history who took humanity within SECONDS of the BRINK of Nuclear Holocaust…

"Spoken by the only man in history who took humanity within SECONDS of the BRINK of Nuclear Holocaust… "

He did have sex with Marilyn Monroe though

Matt

Whew… I thought you were going to say Marilyn Manson!!! :open_mouth:

Just Something Fun To Consider… Or At Least A Lighter Side Of It.

If you consider that there has been an average of 160,000 troops in the Iraq theatre of operations during the last 22 months, and a total of 2,112 deaths, that gives a firearm death rate of 60 per 100,000 Soldiers.

The firearm death rate in Washington D.C. is 80.6 per 100,000 for the Same period. That means that you are about 25% more likely to be shot and killed in the U.S. Capitol, which has some of the strictest Gun Control laws in the nation, than you are in Iraq.

Conclusion: The U.S. should pull out of Washington.

ROFL. Though I suspect the math needs a second look…:smiley::stuck_out_tongue:
