There’s something about the tabacco note that really makes me feel good about a perfume or scent. Perhaps it was growing up with a pipe-smoking father. Those sweet curls of cherry, apple, and spice blended with the warm moisture of the tabacco has always comforted me, and reminded me of one of my earliest role models: my father.
Anyway, tonight I’m going out in Molinard’s Habanita, an intruiging blend that has notes of tabacco, baby powder, honey, and leather. It is a smoky sweet powder on me, that dries down to something rich and warm, leathery and welcome like your favorite leather jacket.
A SERIOUS tabacco frag is Czech & Speake’s Cuba. This smells, to me, exactly like a cigar. I haven’t worn it yet, I just have a decant, but looking forward to giving it a shot.
Anyone out there enjoy tobacco frags?
Worn on a woman, I think they communicate strength, seductive power, sensuality, and a hint of masculinity that, imo, is fetching in a woman.
Tobacco notes really work for me, too. Come to think of it, my favorite grandpa did smoke a pipe!
I love tobacco in Espionage (Ayala Moriel), Chergui (smells like home to me, psychically), Fumerie Turque, and the luscious Habanita of course! I haven’t encountered Cuba yet. Tabacco by i Profumi di Firenze is really beautiful, also.
I tried Czech & Speake’s Cuba a few days ago and it’s fantastic. Boozy and warm, tabacco-y and last forever. Ilsa, I’ll look up that frag. Have never heard of it.
I LOOOOOVE Chergui. I’ve been wearing it layered with Ambre Sultan. I cannot get enough of those two fragrances!
I really enjoy tobacco notes too. I love dark, rich, spicy fragrances. I hear that Tosca by Strange Invisible Perfumes is good and has tobacco leaf as a note, but it’s also $180 a bottle. I’ve never smelled it because I’m nowhere near a boutique … or civilization, for that matter.
I remember on my tour/trip through Alaska a number of years ago we would start looking for a McDonald’s as a sure sign of “civilization.” After living in a community with Micky D’s almost within a rock’s throw of each other the scarcity of them “up there” was a change! I even noticed the one Wendy’s in Anchorage had evidently closed! (And the Taco Bell looked so small!!). I was on one of those cruise ship combo tours (Holland America line) and was having “real food” withdrawl attacks. One of the best meals I had during the trip was a cheeseburger, fries, and shake at the bowling alley in Sitka. Yummmm.
