I’ve been taking a look at bassnotes and theperfumedcourt, and was wondering if anyone had suggestions.
It is still summer here in Vegas of course and will be hot until around the 1st or 2nd week of October.
I was going to check out some of the sample packs.
I’m 43, I am looking for evening / date / club scents.
Something manly / alpha, or possibly something gentlemanly / sophisticated, not too light I already have Eternity, Diesel which I think they’re both light and almost sweet.
I was looking at the Men’s Sample “What would John Wayne wear?” sample pack as well as the Incense - A luxury Men’s niche sample pack.
If you have other suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated.
My main question are you looking for a summer scent or an fall scent?
I personally like chrome by azzaro for the summer, it is long last projection is good and I have had more than a few people complement me on it. I would also like to mention it also doesn’t cost and arm and a leg.
I like A men for the fall it lasts close to 12 hours and it has a very nice dry down that women love from what I have seen. I like the projection it is a little strong at first but after about 15 min it dries down and you end up smelling like a chocolate cookie.
Personally, I like none of the above that smellyman mentioned.
I have tried them on my person, and they have never realy been colognes I have purchased, as they quite frankly don’t have a scent I like or consider worthy of wearing around other people!
(and I think they are using their ‘name’ move product…that’s my opinion, of course!)
Here is a few suggestions.
Keeping on mind also, that I use these on a regular basis.
They have a masculine energy about them (forgive my lack of a better word), with-out smelling like ‘Old Spice’ (…if you know what I mean!)

Jaipur Homme by Boucheron
Joop - Go!
Versace - Blue Jeans
Rocchas - Man
Gucci - Envy
Also, I have found, that if you want to cover any of the cologne that is in the 'mones we buy here,(neroli; ff21 ff22 and so-on…) they will cover it quite well without clashing, if you wanted a change of fragrance!
I read a great review of Amen on basenotes earlier today and found it for sale on a site and it was rather reasonable.
I have never smelled either of these scents, but will head out to a few places this next week to see if I can at leats try Chrome, as I know Amen is sort of out of production.
I took a long list and spent the day checking out colognes in one of our local malls. I took along my niece who’s 18 and has good taste IMO, and made sure we cleared the palate before each new test.
She was going in blind, so she didn’t know what would be what.
So far I’m narrowing it down to:
Amen - I couldn’t stop smelling this stuff, I really loved it. She did too once it settled down on my skin for a good 1/2 hour.
Armani Code - Thx for the suggestion
Gucci Envy - Another real clean masculine scent.
YSL L’Homme- I really like this, however it’s Sephora’s #1 seller and so many people wear it…but I guess for good reason.
Worth mentioning - Victoria Secrets Very Sexy 2. 1 was suggested to be more masculine while 2 was supposed to be playful and light, however I found 2 as did my niece to be more masculine.
I’ll prolly start with the Amen, then buy code and envy and when I’ve got cash for shits and giggles pick up some very sexy 2.
If you haven’t made a selection yet, I would like to strongly encourage you to try Chanel Bleu.
It just came out a few weeks ago, and, for lack of a better description, it’s fuckin awesome.
It smells very gentlemanly/sophisticated, it’s a heavy enough scent for the nighttime, but since you’re older you could get away with wearing just one spray during the daytime.
I’ve actually had the same bottle of Chrome all throughout high school, and I wanted to get something that was similar to that, but smelled a little more mature. If you liked Chrome at all, I would recommend checking out the Chanel Bleu.
I ended up not buying it because I thought it would be too complex to wear everyday. If you like it but get the same feeling (or just liked Chrome) , I would recommend
Nautica Voyage (I actually bought this today)
Dolce & Gabana Light Blue
Also, Ralph Lauren just put out a line of 4 different variations of the same cologne, called the Big Pony collection. Check out the Blue one (It’s number one in the series).
Thx. When I head back to the mall this weekend for my purchase I’ll definitely try it. I did get a chance to try the new Ralph Lauren series, I wasn’t too impressed.
Yeah I wasn’t too impressed with the Ralph Lauren’s either, but everyone’s nose is different. Definitely check out the Chanel though. I’m a huge fan, but can’t pull off wearing it everyday, so I need to hold off for now.
I was at Sam’s Club yesterday and they had a 6oz bottle of Azzaro’s Chrome for $47, much cheaper than Sephoras $57 I think for a 1.5 to 3ml bottle.
Have not tried the Chanel yet, but will this weekend.
WOW! You guys in America get it pretty cheap! (I’m not sure whether it’s because of the exchange rate or what it might be atrubuted to… ? ? ?)
Unlike us in OZ, we here pay much more than $47 for Chrome.

I’m still leaning towards Amen and Armani Code as the my 1st and 2nd purchases. When talking to a lady the other day who was all caught up in my phero cloud, getting all tranced out looking, she smiled at me and said in a really quiet sexy voice…“armani code.” LOL dayum I wish I had it on right then and wasn’t working.

But “Amen” is a fine choice also… (after replying to you today, I tried it on this evening at my local Department Store… nice! )

I’m getting Amen and Code, then Envy, then YSL, and later on for fun Very Sexy 2.
I’ve got my A1, NPA and will get some EOW among a few other things and then I’m gonna buy a bunch of sephora atomizers, AD’s30mls and togos and just have a ton o’ mixes lying around for whatever I’m in the mood for. Gonna buy one of those p touch label machines so I know which is which LOL
I really can’t smell perfumes and colognes very well at all. They all tend to smell the same from my perspective. However, I have heard good things about Marc Jacobs for men (which I own and have gotten compliments from wearing) and also Creed Irish Tweed. I don’t own Irish Tweed but I’ve heard such good things that it is next on my list.
Green Irish Tweed I believe is really classy. Think Cary Grant in his prime. Classic.
‘LA NUIT DE L’HOMME’ by Yves Saint Laurent is another fragrance that kind of reminds of GIT, it just when Tweed settles in, other notes sees to rise up to the top and you have several different notes to admire during the duration.
