This morning my friends sister was visiting us. When we picked her up in the airport, she was wearing a light patchouli scent. Fast forward to the next day when I applied some A314 SBE (still akuto scent). I sat down and a few minutes later she walked past me commenting…
“It smells like boys in here” We are all men in the household so I ignored it because I thought it was a general comment.
She walked past me again and commented “It really does smell like boys in here. Like teenage boys.”
Then I realized it could be she was picking up the androstenone, or akuto scent.
My mother also comments everytime I wear it around her, saying I smell distinctly like sweat.
Does anyone else have people comment that they smell like sweat when they wear A314???
I don’t know if mine is the same, I just ordered the oil and have used it for a few days now but was using the to go, A314a and my wife said I smelled like an old man…so idk…that’s why I put it on 1st and then put IS and IO on top and then “cool water” cologne after the athers have dried and I have gotten compliments, with that & 2 sprays of Ammo 2x as well…on top of all of those others…
A314 and MX297 in akuto (A314 and akuto are not exactly the same from what I hear) have gotten me comments that I smell like sex, I smell like a man should smell, I smell masculine, manly, rugged, etc.
For comparisons, Ammo in FF22 gets me comments more like I smell clean, fresh, good and nice.
I’ve been complimented on the smell of A314 like maybe twice and my girlfriend says it smells like after shave more than cologne. Other than that it tends to have a subtle smell that people might notice if you pass by closely or they follow behind you in your scent trail. Never heard it described as “teenage boy” or “old man” but thats just my experience with it.
Mostly akuto in A314 just smells like a drug store musk. If you are around women who are used to better colgnes it might smell cheap. This is why learning how to use cover scent and good colognes can make a big difference in your results. Right now fresh and aquatic type scents ( acqua di gio) are very popular. So if you want to stand out learn how to pair A314 with a scent that works for you. I like D&G One Gentleman. You might like another.
Not everyone smells pheromones the same way. Here is a quote from a 1984 paper about variation in how androstenone smells to different people (bold emphasis mine):
from:
WYSOCKI, C.J. AND G. K. BEAUCHAMP. 1984. Ability to smell androstenone is genetically determined. Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci.: 81, pp. 4899-4902, August 1984
While thats true to a point, A314 is mostly -Rone not -None.
We, the royal we, have learned a thing or two about how to blend and refiine pheros since 1984. Its also well known that response to certain phero’s is dependent on the female cycle. The aspect of conditioning and prior exposure also needs to be taken into account. This is why the old addage YMMV always needs to be applied.
That was just meant to be one example for which there are some statistics. It is possible that the smells of other pheros vary greatly among people as well.
I don’t know the recipe for A314, but to the 35% of the population who can detect -none at 200 parts per trillion, it probably still smells unpleasant if it has -none in it at all. I’m one of the lucky 15% for whom -none is just barely detectable and slightly pleasant. Also, I think A314 smells great (or at least it did a couple years ago; I haven’t smelled it recently and the fragrance may have changed).
My real point is that what is pleasant or odorless to one person may not be to another.
As you point out, there are many other variables that can affect how something smells to a person. Interestingly, it is not only women who’s perception may vary from day to day. I once wore some beta androstenol, estratetraenol, and cops with a perfume cover, and my husband started proclaiming that he smelled cat piss. He actually started smelling pillows and blankets trying to figure out where one of our cats must have pissed. Finally I asked him to smell my wrist and he was horrified that I smelled like cat piss to him. I washed it off and didn’t wear that phero mixture for a long time, then a few months later I tried the exact same phero/perfume mix and asked him for his opinion and he liked it. I had him smell it again and asked if it smelled at all like cat piss and he assured me it did not. I have no idea why he smelled it differently on the two days.
I like the scent of A314 very much myself and haven’t heard any negative remarks from anyone else either.
Few people would walk up to you and say you smell bad though, especially when you’re wearing A314, so it’s not easy to know.
The only person that ever had a negative comment on my use of A314 was my sister who immediately commented after I walked into the room “who smells like B.O.” I was blown away. Then she said, “its so bad it like its a pheromone” I could not believe it!!! She is very smart and a doctor of education so I literally had to spill the beans on what I was wearing. She told me that she is hypersensitive to peoples odors and went on to tell me how certain populations are more aware of certain scents and pheromones than other populations. I was amazed how much she knew about the subject.
OK, this is my first post outside of my initial introduction but this is a current topic of interest for me. I received my first batch of products from AD and am very happy so far. The only problem I’ve run into so far is the smell of the A314. Granted I’m a noobie to pheromones, but have a very acute sense of smell. It appears to me that the A314 contains so much cologne that it is simply way over the top in an overpowering, fill the entire house with the odor of really awful after shave kind of way. My wife has the worst sense of smell of anyone I’ve ever known. I can smell like a French whore house after a night at a strip club and she’d never notice. One drop of A314 made her really take notice and ask whether or not I had put on a bunch of bad cologne. And this is with at least 2 drops of my normal D & G cologne added. It made me want to take a shower to get it off it was that bad.
My question is: Why is it necessary for AD to add ANY fragrance to A314? Is it possible to purchase unscented? It appears to be pretty easy to mask the smell of pheromones with good cologne. It’s just impossible to mask the smell of really awful cologne with anything but a shower…
Damn…Did the two of you hook up at some convent for people with Ultra Sensitive Smell Receptors?
Just kidding, but seriously I’ve never, ever had anyone say or do anything that would lead me to believe I smell bad while wearing any mone.
Only once have I had a woman really licking and kissing my application spots and I can’t tell if it was the Ammo or the A314 but obviously she loved something in there.
I’ve never really worn A314 alone. I usually have ammo and IS with it. I’ve been told I smell soapy or aggressive. But girls are always telling me I smell sooo good. The second time I see them they remember me as “that guy who smells good.”
Actually, in relation to the actual pheromones A314 contains a VERY light amount of cover scent. (something like 3% I believe, compared to 6% for other sprays and 20% for cologne strength Ammo).
It’s actually light enough that once I apply another cologne nobody notices the A314.
As for why Ad doesn’t sell unscented products…a few points.
1.) actually they do, but they’re more expensive because it requires making a separate batch from the regular scented versions.
2.) Part of the science of what AD is studying/advancing is how certain fragrances work as “carrier scents” ie: pheromones that are part of a cologne with good diffusion and sillage will travel better and be more effective than ones that are uncented.
3.) Not many people will make the same assumption about using their own cover scents. The average user will spray on his first purchase and when he gets a whiff of the sweat and cat piss aroma that mones naturally have he’ll wash it off and ask for his money back.
4.) not all colognes make good cover scents. MANY fragranced products contain chemicals called phthalates (that help the scent STICK to the skin) which means those colognes would actually impede diffusion.
