I often ask myself, what are pheromones worth. Not just in material terms, like what is a litre of milk worth. But to me, you know? What value would I place on something that could, in the right setting, and with the right backdrop, positively affect my chances of finding someone special. I am something of a maths nut. Especially what it comes to statistics. So I like to quantify it in terms of a percentage of my “social” budget. In this I include everything from club entrance fees; drinks bought at a club; drinks bought from the bottle store (60-80% cheaper than the clubs on average round these parts); but excluding cigarettes (which I’ll talk about just now) right down to vegetarian boerewors rolls bought on the side of the road at 3am when I’m plastered.
I’d happily spend 20% of that – that is re-route the money; not spend 20% more.
So I go out 2-3 nights a week. Spend an average of R135 each time I go out, in total. That’s around $18.69 a night; $46.73 per week; $202.79 per month; $811.15 every four months (the ideal length of time between each order, for me). So 20% of that would end up being $162.23. Which is quite a mean little order! Mean as in kick-ass; brilliant!
So this way hopefully I can also end up drinking a little less – no sense in having these awesome chemical signaling agents working for me if I am ALWAYS drunk.
On to cigarettes. This habit costs around $97.58 per month; or $390.33 every four months. That’s an additional $78.07 added onto the $162.23…… grand total of $240.30. Which would be splendid.
Obviously I won’t be able to just go for a pack and a half a day to zip overnight but it is certainly a motivating factor for me to at the very least cut down. Of course the 20% is just a ballpark figure; hey, why not 38%? $456.56! Might have to do the whole 5000mcg atomic bomb thing at that stage!
Just my meandering thoughts. Take care of yourselves, and Jerry Springer!
Not to take away from your point, but I have a question.
Just curious .. do you think smoking has diminishing effect on you as far as how you personally react to pheromones? ie.. does it take a larger dose to feel the effects?
well hard to say; as i have never used Androtics products whilst being a non-smoker. But if I was to compare say SOE self-effects pre-being a smoker and post; I’d have to admit so diminishing. Maybe 30-40% less self-effects with the same amount of SOE. Not sure how much of that is in my head; but it makes sense to me.
I was a smoker for many years and then finally decided to quit, and after a few weeks of not smoking, I noticed that my sense of smell and taste had sharpened drastically.
Seems plausible to assume that there may be a diminished effect as a result of smoking, but that’s just my opinion.
My main thing - smoking up to 40 a day - is the loss of appetite. Also food does not smell or taste as good when I eat it. You have weight loss whilst smoking and/or weight gain when stopping? I’d happily pack on the pounds if I could stop.
What does a box cost in America? It’s like $2.10 a pack here in your money.
I’m not sure about the rest of the country, but here in Texas a pack of Marlboro (premium brand) will set you back around 3.90 a pack. That in itself is a good reason to quit.
As far as gaining weight, yea that is a possibility depending on how you quit. I used “the patch” and as far as I am concerned that is the way to go. I also started a rigorous excercise program which seemed to help alot.
You just have to make up your mind to quit and find a way that will help you. In the end, you will be much better off.
Depends on what you smoke. The average person in my area. 3-4. What I used to smoke 4.50-6.50. I did enjoy a good clove.
It’s possible to quit. Take this statement to heart. “You are either a smoker or a non smoker. People who are quiting are just ass holes who are afraid to commit.”
Just realize when you smoke that last cigarette you can never, and will never smoke another cigarette again. Not even take a drag. Just be done with it.
It takes that mentality or it will never happen. I strugled for a year before I actualy kicked it. I used the gum, the losenges, herbal detox stuff, and the patch. The only thing that worked for me was the patch. I was on and off every week for a couple month, then I stuck with it for 3 weeks and dropped it. After that I went cold turkey.
I could definately smell everything, and finaly BREATH! I now have mild asthma (no attacts but smoke and particals in the air make it very hard for me to breath. I think i’ve always had it to some extent but now it’s worse)
I did gain about 20 lbs, which i’m now working on losing.
Well Matt, when I’ve been in the States (and it’s probably different from State to State) it cost about the same, $2.10 a pack for Malboro Lights. Here in Canada it differs from Province to Province. For example, in Ontario it costs roughly $7 for a pack of 25 smokes, here in BC it costs $10 for a pack of 20!!! Now they are passing laws to make it illegal to smoke in public places (like the sidewalk!) We’ve already been subject to the ban on smoking in pubs, clubs and restaurants for about 7 years, pretty soon the only damn place we’ll be able to smoke is in our own homes, providing we’re not renters, in which case we probably won’t even be able to smoke there! I just wanted to know at what point of being a smoker did I lose all my rights as a human being? But that’s a whole other can 'o worms, and to be honest, I need to quit before it kills me !!!
I don’t want to start a big debate, but I think the main concern is, as a non smoker when did I lose the right to go someplace and not breath toxic chemicals. Being a non smoker doesn’t negatively affect anyones health, but being a smoker compromises the health of the people around them.
The city of Houston imposed an additional 1 dollar tax per pack of ciggs purchased. A pack of marlboro lights will run you close to 5 bucks nowadays. Glad I don’t smoke.
do you already have what you will do with that money planned out?
more than just extra money ,there alot of nice side effects to not drinking as much…or till plastered.same with ciggs.
(i guarentee gals fit into that equation)
Aside from the smoking issue, do people agree that the cost of effective -mones are very reasonable when considered as an overall % of “social budget”?
Yes, I do 100% completely. Sometime putting things into the proper perspective helps a person to understand where viable solutions to ones budget might come from.
For me a typical pre-weight loss day included about $20 spent on fast food like McDonalds, another $10 - $15 spent daily on such pleasantries like soda, Zingers, candy, pure fat containing products.
My “social budget” shifted when those types of things became unimportant to me. I had an extra $900 per month that now can be used for pheromones and enjoying other things like the occasional expensive Coffee, or buying a fine cigar. More importantly what I have come to realize is while I was obese, I tended to stay away from places where I would see people, most particularly women. I tried to buy junk food at the drive through, or go to the local gas station that was out of the way, just so I wasn’t seen buying $10 worth of snacks. What I’m trying to say is “social budgets” will change with “social attitudes”.
Reason therefore must be defined by the individual’s attitude. Some would reason no, others yes.
Matt, a typical night out for me runs $20-40 – a 24oz Guiness or a shot of Irish Whiskey with a soda backer each runs $7 including tip; a bottled water is $4 with tip. In summertime a simple gin-tonic costs less than Guiness, but an icy shot of Bombay Sapphire has a slightly higher price tag.
A few sprays of pheros at most costs me $3. Tops! (Even the $80/bottle 4x Instant Honesty is only 40¢ a spray! Included in my $3 is up to a dozen sprays of 2x Instant Shine on those I am out with.) So my phero budget is 10% (or less, typically.)
And about the ethanol haze: might as well stay just sober enough to enjoy the phero-action, right?
