Wicca: is Essential Magick worth the investment to learn about it?

Hi Everyone,

I know we are lucky enough to enjoy a few White Witches and the like on this forum.

This is a subject I am painfully ignorant about, I would like to gain a better understanding so I have taken a look at what information is out there.

I found this: Essential Magick

It looks like a lot for the price, I have had some different things from this company before so I know the products are good and delivery etc etc, but just wanted to see if this looks like it has some good content?

I would be grateful if anyone in the know could take a look and tell me if they think it is worth the investment.

i’m interested in this stuff aswell, but it looks complicated, and since i’ve read the Satanic bible and started the Satanic book of rituals, i wanna give Satanic magick a try as its the path i follow in life, it seems as though it consists less of ingredients, wands, etc, just alot of imagery, and feelings for what ever ever ritual you plan on practising. But i would love to learn more about wicca

wicca doesnt acknowledge satan.
satan is a no-thing in wicca.

i know!! thats the problem, Satanists don’t agree with white magicians, white magicians practise pretty much the same type of stuff (cept for destructive curses maybe) yet they don’t get all the false made up bullsh*t so called christians give us, all the made up lies. But i’m still interested in it though, as i ain’t ignorant unlike christians

i only mentioned because i know there will be others that read the thread and might get the wrong idea.not all wiccans practice magick either.i dont think they call themselves magicians, but i understand how people from the outside looking in might see it that way.

to me i think its closer to native american beliefs;or shamanism.
its all nature and the environment,a soul/spirit in all things.

is Wicca originally from the Indian/Cherokee ethnic… i thought it was something else, but is being Wiccan a religion or something a little like Darwinism. Its just everytime i made a search for Wicca it came up with some form of witchcraft or magick.

Satanism doesn’t acknowledge Satan, either - well, no more than as a symbolistic figure of anything anti-theistic.

Satanists (i.e. those that read and follow the Satanic Bible) don’t believe in any God, deity or spiritual force - they just acknowledge human emotion, and tend to be very logical thinkers.

Wicca is a New Age term, and is in itself a new religion. However, it’s based on very old principles of Paganism, which ranked as the supreme belief system pre-dating Christianity.

Kind of like Unix was a springboard for Linux, in a way (to use a geek analogy for anyone into computing).

Satanism is, as far as I’ve read and understood, is almost entirely scientific rather than spiritual.

meh,
this is a generic source but it probably but not all together definatively gives you the gist:
Wicca - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

having read through it, i disagree that Gardner is any founder but was just an unearther of the title.

its been in existance way longer than Gardner.

Exactly, its basically Theistic Satanism, they named it after Satan as we have our own pride like “Satan” and “Lucifer” etcccc, for which in the bible they got cast down to middle earth. Although in the Rituals they do call out to Satan, Lucifer Belial & Leviathon at the beiginning, and say Hail Satan or Shemhamforash after each request etc. But thats in order for the curse or lust spell etc to be carried out.

i cant tell you how old the term is. i thought the term itself started with Gardner.
It is not a new religion.

if a spell is carried out in satanism, i cannot see where it is entirely scientific,as LJB has stated.

The story goes that Gardner didn’t “create” Wicca, he simply rediscovered Paganism and re-ignited a belief system for a modern generation.

I tend to think of Wicca as a “simple approach” to Paganism. Like every religion (or indeed, mass gathering of people), there are so many sects and individual sub-beliefs within each system, that the Paganism of years back - depending on the coven or practitioner - was likely very ritualistic and shrouded in secrecy and tradition.

Kind of like cookery, recipes being passed down from generation to generation.

Wicca, IMHO, was a way to present easy access to this “new” (old) religion. It’s very tolerant and unstructured in origin. There are no named Gods, per se - just the expression of duality (i.e. a male and female aspect of the Gods… whether separate deitys or not).

If you want an idea of its accessibility, look up any Silver Ravenwolf books on Amazon. There’s even a “Teen Witch” title, a step-by-step guide for a teenager to practice Wicca and cast spells on mundane topics like homework and boyfriends and luck and whatever else.

I enjoy the spiritual aspect of the religion - the idea we can manipulate Universal forces for our betterment. Whether or not that’s real, or an aspect of quantum physics or just al in our heads in some form of positive thinking is all unknown, of course.

But it’s interesting it would appeal to people here.

After all, what are pheromones other than a chemical manipulation that affords us some kind of advantage?

i don’t know, but i supposed its like Wicca, you really have to believe in your curse or wish for it to work, i’m thinkin the whole calling out to the " 4 prince’s of hell" a bit of a waste of time, its just a matter of having faith and really using your emotions and desire for it to work.

Lor, like everything (and as I’ve stated), there are different sects to Satanism.

There ARE people who truly believe in a very real Satan, or devil entity, and worship that.

However - Anton LaVey “Satanism” (author of the Satanic Bible), which is the most common mainstream form, has no acknowledgment of Universal forces. Spells are carried out merely to reinforce self-belief and self-acknowledge, and the Hail Satan’s and whatever else are merely symbols to that end.

Anton LaVey never believed in a real Satan. His recognized the typical “evil” traits are aspects of nature and humanity, and his pays reverence to that

I don’t know a lot about Wicca.

I am practicing some Meta-Magick rituals, which I learned from The Book of Exhilaration and Mastery by Philip H. Farber ( What is Meta-Magick? - Philip H. Farber ).
What I also like is Chaos Magick. There is a free ebook by Phil Hine at Phil Hine’s PDF e-Book downloads.

i’m not a big fan of practicing magick.

a few years back i used to practice, but soem things happenned along the way, that were unexpected and made me acknowledge the power I was playing with, and I chose to go in another direction. So these days I try not to force my will on any particular thing - because to me that’s what magick is, forcing my will into fruition. Now i just let the universe bring me what it shall, and surprisingly it’s working out better.

Apart from what Lor said (for obvious reasons), there is so much gummf in this thread, my blood is starting to boil.

I decline from answering, but would say no, that is NOT a good source of knowledge.

Oh, and Wicca is NOT a bloody religion. It is a belief-set, and the difference between the two things is HUGE.

Please do NOT post gross misinformation (I don’t CARE what rubbish you found online!) on areas or topics about which you have little or no knowledge. It only tends to anger and irritate those of us who DO practice, and hold the values sacrosanct.

Ail )O(

What got me was the “Idiot’s Guide To Wicca” I spotted on the Love Potions website…

Oy…

Of course there is also an “Idiot’s Guide to Sex” book. Needless to say it “disappeared” from our public library quickly (never returned… darn it…)

“A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.”

I disagree - I think Wicca is very much a religion. It has beliefs, credos, philosophies, deitys, ritual practice. It’s not really an organized religion in that there are no formal churches/places of worship, no governing books and no organization (like the Catholic church) that agrees what’s right and wrong.

The reason people tend to distance themselves from an association with religion when practicing Wicca is that they don’t like the connotation of formalized religion, like Christiannity.

It’s down to the end-practioner. I was a practicing Wiccan for many years (and many years before that, my belief system kind of defaulted to it). I didn’t join any local covens, meet with other Wiccans, perform group rituals, etc - I was what you could call a solitary practioner.

In that sense, to me, Wicca wasn’t so much as a religion as an expression of self-belief. But there are many Wiccans I know who do do the above things I didn’t, and have very rigid beliefs about what’s out there in the astral skies, who they worship, what colours they wear on certain days, etc - to them, Wicca is very much a religion.

I guess it’s personal to the end-user.

And honestly, I don’t see Ali why your blood would boil over this thread.

This has been one of the most gentle, if not slightly inaccurate, introductions to Wicca on a non-religious/non-Wiccan board I’ve seen.

On other forums, there would be people throwing around terms like “devil worshipping” or die-hard Christians casting your soul to hell with their misguided verbiage.

Even though there’s research to do for anyone who hasn’t studied it and is interested, the very fact such a subject was embraced and not immediately ridiculed is testament to the open mindedness of this board.

I think that’s a good thing, and should be seen positively!
