Your Feedback on FF20 - FF21 & FF22

A nice little surprise to be offered the chance to give my opinion on these scents.

First off, primed and ready to go, two sprays of each onto 3 cards.
My first impressions are not exactly what my last impressions were.

Fresh on the card after 5 minute dry down. Second comment is after about an hour.
20 - I liked, but had a older person feel / smell to it. Reminded me of something that my dad used to wear 15 – 20 years ago. Kind of spicy, not offensive. But not something I would buy off the shelf if I had others to choose from.

  • after an hour this one had mellowed and was pleasant and not offensive at all. I would wear it, but again I don’t think younger woman would find it a “sexy” type of scent.

21 – was a no go for me. It was very strong and I just couldn’t work out what this smell like after the 5 minute spay. I had thoughts of, this would make me smell like the dude that’s got to much on! Young.

  • After an hour this one surprised me. It was still a bit over powering and thought if I was to wear this out, I’d only get away with one spray. However, I would wear it as if seemed to have more of an up beat sort of energy to it. It reminded me of something I wore as a teenager. Tone down the ‘hit you in the face smell’ and I think this would be a very good one. Out of all three I have to say this is my pick.

22 – Yet another one I wouldn’t wear right off the bat. This smelt like soap, very feminine. If I received a male product with this scent, I would send it back and ask for the right one… I would assume the wrong one had been sent out.

  • After an hour, this one still smelt the same. Absolute no for this one

What others thought. Polled 4 woman between 34 and 40
The question I asked was what one do you like the best? but dont tell me yet… And after they had smelt them I asked, is there any of them you don’t think a guy should wear? I didn’t tell them what sex they were for to leave the mind open.

22 All of them said that was very floral and was not something they would wear, but wouldn’t expect to smell an guy wearing it either. When I told them it was a male fragrance, there was eyebrows raised and noses screwed up. And a comments like “really?” and “hmmm” and after another sniff, it was “maybe”. I could tell they all had to use their imagination to find the male side of it.

20 and 21 were a 50 50 split. But more time was spent trying to work out if 20 was ok.
21 got the comments of being cheap and to strong.
And the 2 that liked 21 were spending a lot of time thinking about 20 trying to decide if it was better than 21.

I’d say this leans more to 20 for the 4 woman that I tested. Older however, and I’m sure if the age group was younger it would have gone the other way.

Hope to see some Ammo in the store soon
Thanks guys

This has been absolutely fascinating to read. I can’t wait until we see which one is the ‘keeper’. I really like FF20 and FF21. There must be something wrong with my nose because I could barely smell FF22. I wore it for a day and didn’t smell it on myself at all. I’ve heard several comments that it smelled rose scented? That’d be interesting on a guy.

That is interesting, I keep seeing people saying they smell rose in FF22…I have sampled and wore many rose scents, and I can tell you for sure there is no rose in there.

I would say it might be blackcurrant is one of the notes but not 100% sure

3 days of scent testing and now i’m ready to post my results.

the players: me, my buddy, and SEG (a girl from my journal reports, 22 y/o, white brunette. she’s grown close to me over the past few months). me obviously, my buddy to get a second opinion, SEG to get the all important female POV. after all, this is going into ammo, and females comprise a large portion of ammo’s target demographic.

the test: spray once. huff. note. wait ~1 hour. huff again. note. let buddy and SEG huff (timed so that we’re in class together). note. huff as needed later to catch any minute details until removal. note.

the reports are listed as a conglomeration of notes from both tests. discrepancies between tests are noted in bold. i chose 1 hour as the wait time because that’s usually how long it takes before exposure, e.g. i apply, finish getting ready, get some pregame, include travel time, and roughly an hour later i’m with friends. 1 hour also allows the scent to dry down and get some more full-bodied notes.

also, after each test, i asked myself “would i wear this?” this question was based solely on an initial smell and one more smell after an hour. not exactly love at first sight/smell, but many times you can tell when something is or isn’t for you.

the setup: i tested each of these twice. i told my buddy and SEG that i had some new scents to try, and to help me pick the best smelling one. i did not say it was for me, so there’s no bias there. also, by testing each one twice (from their POV, a total of 6 individual tests) this tried to establish some level of consistency, while allowing for error with a stuffy nose or whatever. lastly, i tested in order on my left forearm. they tested in order starting with ff21, on my right forearm.

i tried as much as possible to leave congruency out of the question. i figure since this whole test came about because nobody likes game, the scents would be radically different. whatever scent is chosen will need some work to get adjusted, but we’ll cross that bridge when we get there.

here we go.

baby powder. it’s been a while but now i clearly remember this test and smell. a powdery smell, like flour or corn starch. and the scent was baby powder.

after one hour
me: if i walked into an executive boardroom full of well-to-do people, i would expect it to smell like this. on a separate note, this seems like a scent for older people. clean cut, but not in an overly modern way. with such a clean older scent, it almost seemed as if it was more aftershave than cologne. i could see a drill sergeant wearing this on a night out.

buddy: also said clean cut. pine-y, too. after he said that i agreed. smelled like a forest, not in a musky scent like some colognes, but like pine needles. crisp. but not sharp.

SEG: she said “gross” on the first smell and then didn’t really want to smell it anymore. on the second run, she gave it more chances, still didn’t like it, ended up calling it a “dad cologne.” no amount of prodding would get anything else out of her, so i left it at that.

would i wear this?
no. it’s not a bad scent, but it just doesn’t have that cologne feel.

additional huffs
none needed.

like a fine soap. you know those soaps… translucent pastel colored, wrapped in tissue paper with a sticker on top and a double digit price tag. the scent was rich, exotic, and soapy.

after one hour
me: in my notes i wrote “bbb.” simple as that: if i walked into bed bath and beyond, and headed straight for the “bath” section, i would smell this scent. it started off soapy and then got more soapy. a lot of people say the current game smells like laundry detergent and fabric softener sheets and all that. i never really got that description until ff21. it wasn’t even a fine soap anymore; it was just plain old soap, like you just walked out of the dove factory.

buddy: liked it both times. enjoyed the sweetness of it. did catch the soapy feeling on the second run but called it “like a cleaner”.

SEG: said it didn’t have a cologne feel to it. she used the word “artificial” and i like that. compared it to those $.75 cologne sprayer machines you sometimes see in public restrooms. sure, it smells nice, but it’s merely chemicals on your skin instead of creating a scent. did not catch the soapy/cleaner elements.

would i wear this?
no, but with some modifications, maybe. tone down the sweetness and keep the “fine soap” appeal. that opens up another door of “knowing what ammo does, should it smell like this?” eh…

additional huffs
i smelled this a few more times and couldn’t really put my finger on the scent. then i figured it out: deodorant. took me back to the days of when i chose deodorant based on the scent (and wore it as a scent) instead of the deodorizing properties.

AL. CO. HOL. i lost nose hairs and brain cells on that huff. wow. after standing outside and clearing my nose, i tried another huff. feminine elements, like a perfume. not a girly perfume, not a refined perfume like no. 5, but like something with a female vibe.

after one hour
me: i like it. some cool elements balanced with feminine essences. ammo borders on safe for work as long as you keep it in check. this scent borders on safe for work as long as you don’t overdo it. almost seems like a perfect match. also good because with the feminine essences, girls won’t be inclined to be repulsed by it, like if you were to bathe in axe spray.

buddy: likes it. compared it to his current colognes: abercrombie and fitch something, acqua di gio, one other one (polo something? notes are shabby here). good scent for going out.

SEG: fell in love. she’s the prime example of a girl not being repulsed by it. a lot of the guys who pursue her currently are the “axe wearing” guys. some of them are great guys; she just can’t stand their body sprays or cheesy colognes. [ff22] is a fresh scent that lets people know you’re around, without overpowering anything. (her words)

would i wear this?
yes, but, only after changing that initial alcohol blast. if i had to quickly spray on some ammo before bed, that alcohol smell might kill the vibe.

additional huffs
smells good.

runner-up: ff21.

my personal choice, and the choice of two others:
ff22

out of curiosity I sprayed Silver Mountain Water on one hand and FF22 on the other to compare

FF22 is very close in top notes to SMW, FF22 is definitely lighter then SMW.

The drydown on SMW is definitely different and FF22 does not capture that, but I would say it is about 70% close to SMW.

Damn denec you have a heck of a nose.

No kidding! Something must be wrong with my nose because I couldn’t smell anything on FF22 (except the initial alcohol but that dissapeared almost immediately).

My testing was a complete bust last night! Nobody to test on, but tonight is going to be great

OK this is an evil conspiracy! Thursday night in Memphis and its DEAD? WTFungus! Another night of an awesome mix and wasted on the point that there were no women out. Blurggggg

I hear you steve I go out too much and the good nights that you know where to go is not to much going on. Jump around to other places and nothing. WTF is right! When it is full it is all dudes!

Ok I have worn each scent from FF20- FF22. I personally liked FF22 the best. I got compliments on all three fragrances. I felt that FF20 was still too old for me. FF21 is very good, reminds me of quite a few bodywashes. It is quite a bit deeper than bodywashes though. FF22 I think smelled awesome. I guess it is a bit feminine, but I did get the most compliments on this. Also it is different. It is complex, I like the fruity/floral scent to it. I think that it would mix with cover colognes that are department store bought, and actually enhance them. Give them some depth. So FF22 gets my vote.

F20: is a spicy sophisticated fragrance with cinnamon and floral undertones. Best suited for fall/winter (nighttime) applications, it has great longevity and sillage with decent range that isn’t overbearing.
In fact F20 appeared to increase the calm confidence factor of A314 which was probably the result of different molecules reacting to a better scent vector.

However, to be honest I’m not crazy about this scent in its current form, don’t get me wrong I do like it on some level and disagree on potential covering difficulty (cheer fresh scent seemed to mix well).
It’s just that it was too reminiscent of something an establish gentlemen over 40 would sport. Which may be perfect for heavy Ammo, but not for products aimed at the more youthful crowd.

F21: An artificial pine-ish scent with corn/grain undertones is the best description for this mix, so much so that if smelt emanating from a mop bucket it wouldn’t come as a surprise.

Luckily sillage is lower then F20 and longevity isn’t as great.
It does seem to be a decent carrier for A314 but other then that, IMO, has nothing going for it.
Please (and I mean please) Androtics don’t put this ‘scent’ in any mix, unless of course it’s called ‘instant janitor’.

F22: Has heavy floral influences to the point of smelling very much like Potpourri and if you thought that doesn’t sound too masculine you’d be right.

Sillage was slightly stronger then F20 and has longevity that rivals it. Based on reaction, A314 seemed to carry well with this scent, but I didn’t notice any heightened aspects.
Although I liked this significantly better then F21 it comes across as way too feminine and would be difficult to cover.

In conclusion F20 seems like the most promising but needs to be lightened up a bit to be useful and come across as less mature. Adding more citrus or green notes might help, that way Androtics could have two versions. A ‘light’ and ‘dark’ that would go into Ammo (light) and heavy Ammo (dark) thus reflecting the target group for both the respective strengths.
That may solve the Ammo scent problem but not the MX/instant one, for that hands down I’d stick with the new Neroli.
It’s far less offensive then ‘game’, easier to cover then Akuto, and while not as diffusive as the F’s, sillage is noticeably improved.

(all three scent packages were tested as a cover for a single drop of A314, in similar conditions, on different days, and with fresh clothing)

Hi Steve
Yes, I noticed it! I recently ordered IO 2x, IG and TUTH, it was my first order. I can’t wear them together because I have the feeling I smell like a homeless, like very old sweat, haven’t had a shower for about a month :open_mouth: But no comments from other people, not even my friends commented on it.

Question: Is it possible that other people don’t smell it, just me? Or have they just been polite and didn’t mention it  That would be of interest for me!! I don’t care about the guys but I do care about if the ladies can smell it

FF20 - i don’t hate the scent at all. Not sure how it would mix with the other scents from other products but i don’t mind it one bit. I got kindof a oriental type feeling from the smell. Not bad, but I think I like the original AMMO scent better.

next day - shyyiit… forgot to try the ff21… put on old ammo first… whoopsidaisy

FF21 - hmmm… not sure about the smell… it’s kind of musky and low key which i dont mind… but the smell reminds me of something that kind of brings me down… or nastolgic… i cant tell :stuck_out_tongue: but hey thats me. I could see myself getting used to this smell however, as it is no way bad.

ff22 - Whoah, this one hit me hard, Immediately didnt like it… then after a minute I think it’s now my favorite… just very different from the other 2 as well as most of the other products I have… I think it will blend well with others too but still be able to pick out that particular smell

FF20 - Light, flowery almost. Kind of reminds me of air freshener in my bathroom.
FF21 - Less flower than FF20. More depth to the smell.
FF22 - Very subtle. Nice overtone, not as in your face as the others. Good for if you don’t want to be noticed directly.

Of them, I like 21 the most. 20 is a bit too hard hitting for my taste, and 22 is almost not there.

Test Subject 1: Male, mid 30s - 22, liked it. Nice scent. 21, ok…smelled like standard cologne, nothing special. 20 - smelled like incense. Not good to wear.

Test Subject 2: Male, 48. 22, smelled like hotel soap. 21, okay to start with, offensive lingering aftersmell. 20 - best of the three, would probably wear. He also called me a few minutes after smelling all three saying he felt a little nauseated and was going for a walk…went away after a few minutes.

Funny enough, both of them said FF20 reminded them of something that they’d use in their college days to cover up the smell of pot.

currently testing FF20 today… liking it.

Mmmm, I love them all.

I would especially love to smell FF21 on someone.

Oh jeez sorry Steve, I didnt even see this thread. I’ve just been sharing my opinion in my journal, but heres what I got. I didnt get to vote, but if i was able to, it would have been for FF21.

Heres from my journal:

I did indeed get my order in today with the Ammo scent package. FF21 was leaking on arrival, so I decided I would test that first with a spray and a wipe from the bubble wrap.
To start, I will say I do not like the current Ammo scent so I am glad its getting an overhaul to it. FF21 doesn’t smell much like the current scent. On first applying, i thought it smelled very old spice, aftershave like. just pure aftershave, not something I enjoy personally.. Now thought that it has calmed down a bit, and still smells very musky and somewhat “middle aged man’s cologne”-ish.
I cant say I’m a huge fan of this FF21, but can see how many people could be. differences in taste i suppose.

…

Anyways gave FF20 a go now, and i have to say its bad :frowning: I smell like a thrift store laundry room. Or like rusty, dusty metal. FF21 smells soooo good in comparison now though, so maybe i might just need to let it settle for a little bit

…

Yea, I just came to update about my opinion of each scent after allowing them to settle down, and FF21 is actually really great, I’m totally loving it. FF20 smells like a barber shop, and FF22 is just too chemically for my tastes.
My vote so far is for FF21!

…

And, after a few days of switching between the scents, my conclusion:

FF21- In Love. (FF21- In Love.)

I hope FF21 makes the cut. Even if it doesnt, it should remain a customizable scent. its too good to just shrug away.

Here are my preliminary findings on the three scent packages:

FF20 (Ranked # 1)
Scent Rating: 8
Scent Strength: 6
Scent Duration: 7
Summary:

  • Initial scent reminds me of Michael Storer’s Djin and Givenchy’s P!.
  • During dry down, scent was not very strong. After dry down, scent became more fragrant and pervasive
  • Detected a bit of incense/sandalwood scent as well as a woody aspect. Also detected a slight hint of rose or other flowery scent.
  • The scent began to remind me more of Michael Storer’s Winter Star as time passed on. In fact, after about 15 minutes after application, it smelled more like a 2/1 mix of Winter Star/Djin.
  • FF20 had a very masculine scent that was definitely more of a mature, gentleman’s scent than a younger man’s cologne. It is definitely more for evening use than everyday wear.
  • Overall scent comes across as a high quality cologne that is smooth, yet not too bold, and is not too strong or overwhelming.

FF21 (Ranked # 3)
Scent Rating: 6
Scent Strength: 8
Scent Duration: 7
Summary:

  • Initial scent reminds me of a cross between spray cleaner and Hugo Boss. It definitely has more of a fresh, citrus, lemon scent than either of the other 2 scent packages.
  • After dry down, the scent became a bit more like regular game with a slight hint of a rose or flowery scent that was still overshadowed by a massive citrus signature.
  • It has more of a chemical smell to it that is similar to Alter Ego. The sweetness of the scent seems to be a bit overpowering (pleasant but a bit strong).
  • FF21 is definitely a more youthful, fresh, energetic scent that is better suited for everyday use if the scent were a bit lighter.

FF22 (Ranked # 2)
Scent Rating: 7
Scent Strength: 5
Scent Duration: 4
Summary:

  • Initial scent is sweet and slightly spicy. There is a citrus element that is a mix of both lemon/orange. I don’t have any comparable cologne references to compare the scent to unfortunately.
  • Dry down is very quick and settles down to a very light, clean fragrance that has a faint trace of a vanilla or flowery scent perhaps? Or almost like an exotic fruit that I can’t place.
  • The scent is not overwhelming at all - in fact, it is very subtle and pleasant, and seems to fade rather quickly. It comes across as sophisticated and classy and is moderately masculine.
  • FF22 is definitely good for everyday wear and is more of a summer scent for me.

Initial Conclusions:
If I had to choose a favorite scent, it would be FF20 since I have used scents that are very similar, so it falls more in line with my regular preferences. The scent does seem more better suited for evening use though, and if I had to select a scent for everday use, FF22 would probably be the best bet, as it is subtle but sophisticated. For purposes of the new scent for ammo and other MXes, FF22 might be a better choice if the strength and duration were increased just a bit.

I agree that for everyday use FF22 would be the best choice.

I am finding that although immediately appealing to my nose, FF20 probably would get less compliments and be too distinct- like my experience with Akuto.
