A314 New Scents & Essential oils: Your immediate opinion required

Today is insanely hectic, with a huge number of phone calls. Please understand if I’m a little slow at responding. With our new changes, the guys are overwhelmed making the little test products and I’m overwhelmed with questions! :open_mouth:

If you’ve pm’ed me, I’ll get to you as soon as I can. I promise!

For now I need to ask everyone an important and quick question, as they want to finalize an A314 batch today. We’ve gotten so many requests for a new A314 batch, I’m surprised it hasn’t gone to the level of death threats yet.

For our planned “special edition” of A314, we ordered tons of essential oils, some from well known, published natural perfumers. Honestly, little has piqued our interests enough for the special edition itself.

However, we do have some nice oils. Very nice.

Is there anything you guys would particularly want to see next, in A314 Classic?

For the same price as it’s sold now, here’s an idea: we could have a version with light Indosesian Oudh. This smells very woody and changes it’s scent depending on your skin chemistry. You’ll probably smell it more than people around you, but it is nice and manly. Woody. Calming.

While not really ideal for our special edition, it’s still an interesting oil. Maybe it’d make a good classic? We could do 60 to 90 bottles with this.

We’re also waiting on (when you deal with perfumers, you do a LOT of waiting!) a larger quantity of a special blend we’ve received that contains very high spec sandalwood, real whale ambergris (this doesn’t hurt whales), no-kill deer musk, high grade Indian oud from the Assam region and some other fine oils. I smelled a sample and went to heaven! I’d say it is “Special Edition” worthy. But since so many people want A314 with it’s original pheromones, maybe you’d like a short run of A314 Classic with this killer blend of oils, too? Depending on the concentration, we could probably do a short run for just a few bucks more per bottle.

Ears are open, let 'er rip!

Thanks,
Jas

PS – Do you prefer A314s that are easy for others to smell, or mostly for yourself or people really close to you? We can do versions that other people can more easily smell, but when you’re talking oils which diffuse slowly, that means adding some very expensive animal oils (obtained “no harm”, “no kill”!) to broadcast the scent. Most plant oils stay “close” to the skin, and are more for your own enjoyment.

it seems to me that most people use A314 as a base for mixes, rather than a standalone product, and therefore the scent would not be that important. i would prefer a version as close to unscented as possible since i create mixes with my favorite cologne and don’t want to worry about the scent being altered at all.

Thanks! That makes sense. We usually don’t like to add much. Just enough to mask some pheromone scent, help smooth diffusion and to add plant compounds that act like pheromones.

You know that most pheromones themselves have a scent, right? Except for a very few, there’s no such thing as a scentless or low odor pheromone. They’re the body’s natural scents, and the amount you get in synthesized products can smell unusually strong.

For me, I’d buy all 3 versions. I do a mix of commercial (high end) scents and my own mixes of EO’s. For those any Oud would be great. That is a VERY expensive scent.

I’d use the “unscented” with the commercial scents and the other 2 with my own mixes, since I already use oud.

Jasmin Hi I think that if you are going to create a classic then the scent should be worthy of being called classic. For this type of scent you might want to investigate the AMOUAGE Perfumes for men and women. DIA comes to mind as a great scent, and if you could create your own interpretation of this scent, it might be a great enhancement…
(A MB Car can be both for dress up and formal or you can drive it in Jeans )   tradeneil

I agree that Dia is nice, but it’s more suited for an “older” audience, but then again, so is oud.

I’ve heard great things about oud/oudh and would be tempted to try it.

Now I for one can see TWO basic types of a314.

For some a314 is indeed a “base” so I’d almost opt for a very nicely scented version based the idea that the rest of the products applied would be “unscented” so as to havfe only one predominant “cover scent.”

For others, even if they use a314 as a base or only as one of many ingredients, a lightly scented or unscented version would be an idea, where you would use another product or your own cologne/percume for the cover.

Another thought would be for you to offer the oil blends as stand alones so we could choose out own…

Just some thoughts.

I have no objections to the “original” a314 scent.

Hi Trader.

Those are great colognes. They have those at Saks.

It’s a good idea, but things like Amouage are colognes that use no essential oils. The only natural oils they do use are highly refined for “alcohol chemistry”. That’s why they’re clear fluids, not cloudy.

There’s nothing like that for oil bases that we could use in the oil version of A314. We don’t do much inhouse perfuming anymore, but the natural perfumers can only work with what they have. You’d have to go to the spray format to really get something the type of cologne that comes out of a spray pump. For A314 oil, you’re talking old style essential oils and absolutes. Stuff like sandalwood, neroli, oudh, vanilla, tonka, etc.

I love GOOD Oudh, and wear it myself often, so I think even the guys who aren’t au-fait with the Amouage line, or Oudh would appreciate it being added..

Taps her foot wondering if Michael is going to do something in a product similar for us girlies

Maybe in the eventual women’s version of A314?

Oudh is EXTREMELY sexual, and it always just helps to tip the balance for me. LOVE it. I prefer Aloeswood on a guy though, to Oudh.

Lucky, lucky Androtics guys…

Grits teeth to stop jealous pangs..

I am still waiting for something gorgeous and vanilla-based coming for us. Will keep peeping in to see if there is any mention.

I would LOVE a vanillic fragrace option for both ISexi/W and LAM, but I think Ilsa, Carrie and I have already asked for that - so better just wait and see…

Ail

I like Sandalwood !

I wish I had more experience with scents. Guess I’ll just have to await the wonderful surprise.

I think you should have two categories of A314:

  1. Original & Classic - This version would retain the light scent of the original A314 in addition to the original formula. There are situations where having a heavily scented product would not be a great idea, especially in the work environment in which A314 excels, where some people seem to have noses like bloodhounds   Also, I use A314 in a LOT of my mixes, and having a light scent helps keep the overall scent signature down without interfering with other scent additives.

  2. Special Scented Editions - These versions would be for special occasions such as parties, clubs, and events where you want to project your best and smell like it too. You can also add addtional components to spice up or enhance the overall formula if need be. I especially am interested in the Oud version since I have read many positive reviews about Oud and its alluring qualities. A high quality sandalwood version would also be worth a look at. Basically, this should be the “heavy ammo” of A314 :open_mouth:

I’ve got to wonder how good Indonesian? It was the one we bought a lot of, because it came from a famous natural perfumer we thought we could trust. It was expensive, but we thought it would smell a little more interesting.

Some of the blends perfumers have sent us with oudh, though, are marvelous. This one from a Middle Eastern perfumer is like a god touching foot on earth… absolutely delicious!

A314 for us girlies (like MX134) will be a spray on that’ll have to use perfume grade materials. Unless we get more women customers, I doubt he’ll do an oil for a long time. He doesn’t like being locked in to large batches of oil products that’ll sit around on the shelf, since he likes to able to do formula upgrades.

Oh? What’s the difference between aloeswood and oudh? I thought agarwood, aloeswood and oudh were all names for the same thing. :o

Is it a different part of the plant that each come from, or different species entirely?

Uh oh! Maybe I can do something about that, dear!

How about sensual flowers and real, cruelty free animal musk as an available additive for the oil products? Real ambergris? Men go ga ga for those! Everyone I’ve let smell them, wants to keep huffing away.

We’ve kept this under our hat, but he’s always wanted a good vanilla WITH sillage and nice musks to represent a women’s line. He might be a guy, but he had good e.s.p. on that one!

The perfumers we’ve worked with just never send anything that smells as delicious as the food grade ones do upclose, and he’s rejected them all. Are they braindead, or what! He doesn’t like buying anything that isn’t top notch. He’s very finicky.

Heck, I think the only scent of ours he REALLY really loves himself is Akuto.
The only times he’s given in on any scent issue is when they test well with the public. If it does really well, he’ll consider putting out something he doesn’t like as much personally.

I know we’ll get a good vanilla eventually. We’re entertaining new perfumers now who use a completely different pallette (just like artists use different brands of paint). We’ll see what they can do. I think we also have a new scent or two coming in for women soon, based on what tested well.

Ambergris…

Oh yes, I know EXACTLY how much men love Ambergris.

Boudoir proves the point soooo well, as it does for the sheer sexual potency of viburnum ^_~

When can we add what you mentioned to our products, Jasmin?

I will place another order once I know. Sensual flowers sound good, although I am definitely not a white floral girlie as you know, but maybe Osmanthus or Pikake, or Tiare? Good musk also just cannot be beaten.

Okay, I am getting excited over these new fragrance ideas, and I have work to do, so I better get on with it.

Thanks for the updates!

Oudh by the way, is the resin distillate of Aloeswood, which is also sometimes called Agarwood by certain cultures. Guicawood (Bulnesia Sarmienti) on the other hand, is something quite different. It is slightly waxy in aroma, and is often used in tobacco-like fragrances. There’s an almost honey-sweet, rosy, SLIGHTLY smoky feel, with a touch of rubber, and leather to it.

Anyone familiar with Robert Piguet’s fragrance “Bandit” will know Guicawood, as it is a strong base-note of that formulation. It’s also present in the women’s fragrance “Jolie Madame” by Balmain.

Anything with Oudh takes a strong personality to carry off well imo, as you EXUDE confidence and sensuality when you wear a fragrance of this type - be you male or female.

Ail

I think scents are individual matter of taste .. what I like most may not necessarily be all that great for another.

That is why I have the opinion that A314 scent best be light, and neutral, for the mainstream version that is.

It is a very successful product used by so many, in various way, and a strong scent may dominate it, suit some but not others, and interfere with mixes or colognes used to a person preference.

Having said that, I wouldn’t mind at all a few lines of non-phero scents, colognes or EO mixes, that have a (recommended to mix with) table vs the phero products here.

That way, I can have a rack of scent-neutral phero products, and another of those EO/scent bottles, that I can mix and match as the mood and situation requires.

Hope that is a useful opinion.

I would prefer A314 with high grade Indian oud or Middle Eastern.

I normally use A314 for office as a stand alone and if its scented with high grade oudh it would be excellent. OUDH is highly appreciated here in Middle East … and the top grade oudh which comes from India almost cost around 1000 Dollars for something like very little quantity …

Hope to see some good quality OUDH being used with a314. Would certainly be a good match for such a good product.

the questioN iz when r u guys launching. We are all just waiting to place an order since our existing a314 is running out bad …

That would cause A314 to go from 70 bucks to about 300 bucks per ounce, yes? :open_mouth: Then only a hand full of people on the forum could afford it/would buy it.

Figures that we men would go for whale barf…

Thanks. I’ll pass those ideas along.

How about orris?

So oudh is an additional refiment ofaloeswood/agarwood? Wow, I didn’t know that. Most people and websites use the 3 terms interchangably, so it’s interesting to learn more about this!

You said before that you like aloeswood more than oudh on your hubby. What scent does raw aloeswood oil have that the more refined oudh doesn’t?

Also, if everyone calls oils these all 3 words, then how you can tell the difference between oudh and the rawer forms of aloeswood/agarwood oils? Is there a difference in color or thickness?

Most of the perfumes that I have been wearing lately have some degree of ambergris in them. Aroma M Geisha Red, Amber Oudh, PROFUMUM FIORI D’AMBRA, and Amazon Passion Oil- which Ail turned me on to.

I would love to see an additive with vanilla, musk, ambergris, and oudh. I think that would blend well with my perfumes. I definitely don’t care very much for flowery fragrances.
