Have you tried it?
It looks like you’d have to take a damned awful lot of it for it to have any major effects. But even so, it looks like it would be beneficial, and not harmful.
Diane
I’ve been taking about a gram a day for almost six months.
Nothing bad has happened.
If anything good is happening, it’s been pretty subtle, so far.
I’ve been taking about 500 mg/day for about a month now. So far so good I’ve been hoping that it might help with my type II diabetes… Not sure if the effects are lasting or only work while taking the drug. (Of course, its not proven to work at all yet.) Here’s hoping though!
1 gram? wow! Ive heard that it acts like a blood thinner so ive been worried about taking that much… Maybe I’ll try 750mg for a bit and work up from there. Do you take it all at once or spread it out over the day?
-Bee
I just take it all at once, along with 500mg Quercetin, which is supposed to help with absorption (and has nice properties of its own).
cool, i’ll have to look into quercetin.. Have you seen any real effects from all this?
Thanks,
-Bee
I’m not overly familiar with Reservatrol but as I understand it it’s used as a supplement for its antioxidant & cardio-protective properties.
With medications & supplements like that you wouldn’t actually expect to see or feel any of the benefits, at least no other benefits than the absense of e.g. cardiovascular disease. Meds like these are prophylactic/protective, they help minimize the risk that you’ll develop a certain medical condition or prevent an existing condition to worsen. ![]()
It’s the protective part of red wine that accounts for the “French paradox”, that has been concentrated and dried. 1 gram is like drinking about 40 bottles of wine without the “fun”.
Actually, It has been shown to reverse the effects of type II diabetes in rats… This is what i’m personally taking it for. Hoping others might be doing the same. I also have a friend with melanoma. There are studies going right now trying to determine if its topical use can help kill the cancer cells.
Based on what I have read, if you are only looking for protection from heart disease, a much smaller dose can be taken. (the French don’t drink 40 bottles of wine per day)

The French Paradox can be attributed to multifactoral reasons, not just the red wine… though that most likely contributes to it.
Diane
I didn’t know that, I’d be interested in reading more about it. Do you have a reference? Which specific effects of type II diabetes are you talking about? Diabetes & cardiovascular disease go hand in hand (but I’m sure you know that if you have DM-II) ![]()
Oh, and I think Mtnjim meant 1g of resveratol was the equivalent of 40 bottles worth of antioxidants
I don’t remember exactly where I read about the diabetic rat study… I’ve done countless hours of research on this stuff. Unfortunately, there have been very few human studies as yet. The only ones I know about are for its cancer fighting effects; specifically skin and any body part that is close to the digestive system. (my friend with melanoma spoke with her doc about it after I mentioned it to her. He is trying to get her into the study) I would highly recommend jumping on youtube to start your research. Try looking up “60 minutes resveratrol” This should pull up a 15 min long 60 minutes clip that will make your head spin.
I was hoping that someone on here might have had some results using this against DM-II. It was worth a try ya know? In any case, I think the more ppl who know about this the better anyway. Just wait until I start a post about candidiasis..![]()

PS - Let me know what you think of that 60 min clip ![]()
Sorry Xiphoid, I just reread my reply and can see how it might be taken the wrong way. What I meant was the French Paradox is a real event that is thought to be connected with resveratrol consumption, but not in huge quantities like what might be found in a resveratrol pill. The french eat a high fat diet and have low instances of heart problems. They generally only drink a few glasses per day. <– I’m assuming this but the number is most certainly less than 40 bottles…
Therefore, not much resveratrol is needed to fend off heart problems.
Also, by “countering effects” I meant the reduction of insulin resistance. In other words an honest to god cure.![]()

I didn’t read these, but this is just a few from a google search on the terms: Reservatrol Rat Diabetes.

Yes, I get dramatic short term effects from quercetin. Though it works by a completely different mechanism, the effects (after about 20 minutes) are similar to pseudoephedrine. It is great as a decongestant when you have a cold or allergies.
