nootropics / smartdrugs

any forum members currently on nootropics? i wanna start taking them again cuz im going back to school and i’ll need all the help i can get.

but there’s so many new ones out there, too many to choose from and i have no idea where to begin lol.

i used to take piracetam and choline but didn’t notice much improvement so i wanna try something more ‘heavy duty’ this time around.

I don’t know enough to inform you, but here’s a place that can.

Erowid Nootropic (Smart Drugs) Vaults

The experience vaults are invaluable.

and this is from wikipedia

Aniracetam

Main article: Aniracetam
Aniracetam is a pyrrolidone derivative drug, analogous of piracetam, and considered more potent*citation needed*]. Like piracetam, aniracetam protects against some memory impairing chemicals, such as diethyldithiocarbamate and clonidine.[11] (Nootropic - Wikipedia) Also like piracetam, aniracetam may enhance memory in aging adults by increasing levels of brain biogenic monoamines, which are beneficial to learning and memory.[2] (Nootropic - Wikipedia) Both racetams have possible therapeutic use in treating fetal alcohol syndrome.[12] (Nootropic - Wikipedia) Aniracetam increases vigilance[8] (Nootropic - Wikipedia). Aniracetam has shown to positively potentiate AMPA receptors.

wow ur right, that website’s experience vault is packed with exactly the kind of info im looking for! need to rep u multiple times to say thank you.

yup, i read a couple of the experiences on aniracetam and it seems it’s much more potent than piracetam’s subtle effects.

how about u, Toil? r u on any nootropic stack right now or have been in the past? i just recently started taking double strength omega 3 fish oil 2.4g a day and noticed a good improvement in mood stabilization and concentration. (i can aim better and anticipate other players movements in call of duty4 lol)

I’m on ritalin, which kind sucks for the most part, but aid in my cognitive abilities significantly.

I need to take fish oils, but for the most part I try to stay away from drugs that alter brain chemistry. I’ve had bad results with most of them. After a while they backfire and I’m highly prone to side effects.

ritalin is prescription so it must be pretty powerful. is it safe to take it long term?

im sry to hear that u had bad experiences with brain enhancement drugs. do u mind sharing some examples of how they backfire after a while? was it with nootropics or street drugs?

btw, something wrong with wikipedia recently, can’t access it. is it just me?

Hi LifeT

This might help…

nice… i didn’t know Jaz was into nootropics too. cool~
thx for the link Bella, reps for u!

Ritalin is pretty powerful, and addictive, and has some nasty side effects. Overall I would say it is not safe for long term use, but then again, Sigmund Freud used Cocaine for 40 years and look what he accomplished.

My experiences where not so much with brain enhancement drugs, but stabilization drugs, anxiolitics, and anti-depressants. They work on similar principles, and if not the direct mode of action, they at least alter the hormone levels of your brain. Melatonin for example, is considered a nootropic. I have a bottle and have used it for a sleep aid. After a month of use it started to keep me up, it altered my baseline mood, and caused higher overall anxiety.

Beyond this melatonin is not safe for any extended use. It can cause severe problems with your brain. I forget the exact issues, but I’ll ask my doctor the next time I see him. I suspect similar complication with long term nootorpic use in any category, but that is just an assumption.

I have also used DHEA in a supplement regiment. I also has severe long term complications and caused alterations to my baseline state.

High levels of any hormone in my body cause mild problems after relatively short time period (3 months). I stick with ritalin because it is just an amphetamine chain. It releases dopamine, at the worst, so you crash. Other than that, it’s more stable than adjusting body chemistry and consistent dosing is not necessary, so I can come off it when ever I desire.

hmm i also experienced something similar with melatonin. it started to lose effectiveness after a couple of weeks for me. although melatonin is considered to be a nootropic it doesn’t seem like it’s meant to be taken long term. i use it like a sleeping pill once in a while when i seriously need to sleep.

what are the side effects u experience from ritalin? do u find that it improves ur cognitive abilities more or improves mood more?

Melatonin is not something you want take everyday… especially if you are 24.

It is something you should take if you want to dream hard, at least that is how I use it. When I want to lucid dream, it allows me to get into that state easier. I do not want to lucid dream every single night.. it is too taxing to do effectively… you need a break from dreaming like that just like you need a break from digging a hole on a 100 degree day.

However it is very safe, especially if you get the right brand… It has virtually no LD 50 level.

It is something you want to take more when you get older…as your body produces less as we age.

It is important to note that it is an MAOI.. and the MAO-MAOI system is a pretty important system to cognitive health and the perception of reality itself.

It preps the body and brain for the release of DMT… and because of that it is not something you want to take every day… or something you take then go out clubbing – it is kinda something to take (the ones that dissolve in the mouth are the best sorts–especially peppermint flavored) IN bed Reading a book..

Remember .. Set and Setting is very importaint with all drugs.

As for ritalin.. I would personally stay away from anything like that.. It is speed… Even if made by “professionals”

Plus being deeply around the medical field… I have a severe distrust of the pharmacutical industry.

Many Doctors are total morons as well.. together they account for 250k deaths a year from mistakes in the USA alone…

Which is quite a bit more then all illegal drug deaths combined, by a factor of 100.

wow savage, u know a lot about melatonin. reps for ya.
i never knew it was supposed to induce lucid dreaming, don’t think i’ve ever experienced one so far.

after searching for a couple of weeks, i think this is the stack im gonna start out with, and then gradually adding more nootropics one by one through testing and trials.

piracetam (taking all 3 racetams redundant…?)
aniracetam
oxiracetam
alpha-GPC
picamilon
ALCAR
R-ALA
L-glutamine

5-HTP at night time for better sleep
adrafinil- when i need to be very social, maybe not good to take it everyday.

i also want to try pyritinol later on, it seems to imporve reaction times.
and DMAE and hydergine for the mental energy boost.

im quite curious about deprenyl but im not sure what to make of it. there are some entries in the experience vault from that site Toi recommended describing it as a good social nootropic. but some other users reported a feeling of emotional flatness after 6 months of continual use. maybe it’s meant to be used like adrafinil or melotonin, taken only when needed and not daily consumption.

some ppl start taking deprenyl because it could extend someones lifespan, its also taken for its motivational effects

be carefull with the aniracetam, many ppl report a brainfog when taken togheter with piracetam, i tought it had to do with the dosage

hmm yeah i read many reports about people cleaning up their houses while on deprenyl lol

brainfog…maybe those users didn’t supplement with enough choline? i’ve read that’s what happens when u take the racetams without a sufficient choline source.

nono it seemed to just be caused by adding in aniracetam even with enough choline, you gotta experiment for yourself tough everyones differend

whew…i just bought a huge load of noots from relentless improvement and biogensis:

piracetam
aniracetam
oxiracetam
picamilon
centrophenoxine
5-HTP
melatonin timed release
rhodiola
dmae 250
pregnelone
alpha gpc
phenylpiracetam
theanine
huperzine a
pyritinol
magnesium + potassium aspartates
idebenone
R plus lipoic acid
ALCAR plus

and,

Deprenyl Liquid (Cyprenil)
Phenylalanine - DL (Solal)
Adrafinil (Olmifon)

this put a pretty big dent in my wallet, but i think it’s best not to be a cheapass when it comes to supplements. i’d rather pay more for a certified pharmaceutical grade product than to pay less for generic brands that has poor effect. (like Source natural)

some fun experiment times ahead!

i think my basic daily stack would be something like:
piracetam, oxiracetam, maybe aniracetam, alpha -gpc/centrophenoxine, picamilon, ALCAR and RLA, magnesium/potassium and idebenone. from what i’ve read those noots should be fairly safe for continual daily usage without much tolerance build up.

the other stuff like liquid deprenyl, adrafinil, hyperzine and pregnelone i think i’ll use sparingly when the occasion calls for them.

i heard that pramiracetam is godly when it comes to memory and concentration. it was sold out at relentless.

Anybody try ginko biloba? I tried the tincture once but any more than a small amount, and it gives me a killer migraine. It’s probably more for older people with constrained bloodflow.

There is another herb, gotu kola I tried once. Actually, I think it did some good. It is used in ayurveda as a Fire tonic, to treat certain mental and skin conditions, and there is some evidence it could improve mental abilities, such as memory.

i tried them both but i didnt notice that much, you should read on all the other stuff there is! at first i also knew about ginko and ginsend but there is soo much more better stuff

@LifeT
thats a big stack there! one supplement i also recommened for everyone is resveratrol, i’m one of the most promosing supplements out there!

I have experience taking melatonin, and it isn’t something you want to take every day as has already been said. Also, most melatonin pills are too high a dose. You can get the effects from much lower doses (10mcg). However, if the dose is too high you start getting a lethargic, even depressed mood day and after day and the effect builds up.

I think 10mg is too much to start with. Melatonin is very effective at even lower doses. I recommend starting with a 1-3 mg. sublingual tablet and increase the dose if need be.
