Nootropics - Anybody ever tried?

Ever seen the movie Limitless? Well, nootropics are similar in effect to the drug used in that, to a much, much, much lesser extent. However, there have been many clinical studies and anecdotal evidence on nootropics such as Piracetam and Noopept show a significant increase in cognitive functioning, spatial awareness, short/long term memory recollection, among others. Also, research has found close to no negative effects, with the ‘may cause headaches, nausea, tiredness’ being excluded - this has been reported sparsely, with say 1 in 20 users reporting this, which is usually coupled with misuse, overdosing, or mere coincidence as indicated by lack of thorough testing, or patience, and those few quickly state any physiological change must be down to the nootropic, when in actuality the substance hasn’t even been used enough to have any effect yet..let alone negative effect. I believe this stems from doubt, making the brain subconsciously resistant or skew the effects.

Anyway, long story short - I’ve just bought Noopept. I know this is very off-topic to the site, that’s why I’m posting in the lounge, but I believe something so beneficial to cognitive clarity could have possible effects on socialising, ability for ideas to articulate more quickly and proactivity in really pushing the social boundaries and being more confident with approaches and initiating interactions.

As a note: Noopept isn’t illegal, it just isn’t approved by the FDA. Another nootropics, phenylpiracetam, was actually banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency due to its significant effects on physical stamina and ability to provide improved tolerance to cold weather. (See this list - S6. Stimulants | List of Prohibited Substances and Methods) listed as ‘fonturacetam 4-phenylpiracetam (carphedon)’

This shouldn’t violate any forum rules, should it? I’m not bringing up any illegal substances.

Tell us how it all works out; sounds like it might be pretty legit.

There are quite a few nootropic threads already - and some work on the potential nootropic properties of P100

I took Piracetam during my college days and it made a little difference in my studies. Nothing as profound as Limitless but it got the job done. I have some JSC LEKKO manufactured Noopept that I haven’t cracked open yet.

Adderall and Modafinil are closer to “Limitless” but there’s the possibility of disastrous side effects.

My Noopept has arrived!!!

If I’m inactive for any prolonged amount of time…well, things didn’t turn out too well! :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve begun to notice a little more mental clarity already, placebo aside. I had completely forgotten I had taken the Noopept, and around 2-3 hours after, I found myself completely head in the clouds pondering something I had just heard on TV. I’m always a thinker, but this was ridiculous. I was simply staring and the wall, all perception of where I was or what I was doing was gone, I was 100% in the thought. It wasn’t a hazy feeling I often have when I day dream though, my full attention was on the though, however insignificant it was - which it definitely was! So, it wasn’t the ‘sharp’ in-the-moment focus I was expecting, it seemed to add emphasis to the thinker in me, and my creative side, without stumbling over my thoughts.

The first day wasn’t a good result. However much I wanted to try and forget I’d taken it, I still expected some significant increase in focus, mentally and visually. What I had was the opposite. I became so relaxed, with no worry at all, and no matter how much I tried to read an article on a psychology website, at the end of each sentence I found myself deep in thought about something either irrelevant, or something so far down a thought trail it was practically irrelevant. I think this is the purported anxiolytic effects that have been studied and found.

The second, third, and today, the fourth, have been a little better. I’ve found myself with better vocabulary, and articulation of thoughts and emotions. This, again, was whilst forgetting about my Noopept dosage. Another space cadet moment was when I was discussing something, and moments after the conversation as I sat in the same place, I stared at an ever-so-slightly swaying light switch that twitched with the breeze coming through the room. This almost put me into a trance, deep in thought at what we had just discussed. My mind was moving at 100mph processing the thoughts, but they weren’t distorted or skewed, I could still walk over each thought without stumbling.

Tonight I had made plans to go for a few drinks with a friend. I’ve been stuck inside with a cold for the past few days, and have been going stir crazing, knowing that I’ve been needing to rest, yet I have this feeling of proactivity boiling away inside without anything to use it on. This just leads to agitation when your mind is looking for stimulus, but there is nothing to feed it, and its made worse when said friend cancels!

It’s true what I have read, the results are certainly subtle. That’s why I tend to forget I’ve taken it. However, it’s the moments where I find myself so deep in thought, more than usual, that makes me think something is going on. Hopefully it will come with more clarity in the future, as I’m sure Noopept has a cumulative effect in the way that the nerve growth factor gradually increases over time. At the moment, I feel quite a bit of attention defectic, as my mind is fleeting from one thing to the next, but I can definitely see it being something positive once I get used to it.

I’m putting a lot of my lack of attention down to my cold. More often than not with colds, my increase in temperature makes me feel a little flustered, with little ability, nor motivation, to pay absolute attention on certain things. Probably because I’m just wishing this cold would simply f*** off!

I’ve tried some nootropics before and they do seem promising, but lately I’ve found something I would say works far better.. It’s called Siberian ginseng or ‘Eluethero’.
I also like it better because of it not producing unwanted side effects, like depression, I get from nootropics. On occasion I do brew up some tea with natural nootropics. They’re pretty good too.

I’ve tried quite a few things and am intending on trying far more.

Coluracetam gave a bit of energy in a sense entirely unlike that of stimulants, drastically improved fine motor skills, reaction time, and overall writing ability, creative writing especially, and to some extent increased general mental clarity. Duration about 4 hours. Dose used was typically 10mg, but could go up to 30mg, though this was generally unnecessary.

PRL-8-53 promoted wakefulness, but once again was not quite like a stimulant - closer than Coluracetam though. Working memory was definitely improved, reaction time and fine motor skills improved even past Coluracetam, overall recall improved greatly, and the synergy with Coluracetam was just perfect. Duration was about 12 hours and dose used also ranged between 10mg and 30mg, 10mg typically being ideal.

Methylene Blue once again improved energy levels, and once again being unlike a stimulant. It improved every aspect of cognition, or seemingly so, but very subtly. Fine motor skills and reaction time were especially noticeable since these were what I most often used. Hunger was increased, which definitely helped in reducing the side-effects of D-Amphetamine. Social anxiety diminished incredibly. Dose used ranged from 50ug up to 200mcg, but I found 200mcg ideal for me.

I didn’t have much time to write that, so if anyone needs me to elaborate, just ask and I’ll see what I can do.

I’ve come to realise that although I can definitely feel more cognitive clarity, and mental power, unless I concentrate this on something specific - studying, for example - my mind seems to abruptly dart from one thing to another. I almost feel like I have too much attention, and if it isn’t used on something that requires my complete attention, I become mislead by other tasks or thought trails.

I’ve noticed when I play guitar, unless I’m studying something new, I tend to noodle a lot more, and switch from one genre to another, and when I am cleaning up around the house my attention is taken by something on the radio or TV much easier.

I have two things I’m going to try out:

In the gym I am going to take my standard dose prior to working out on the heavy bag. I never train for the sake of it, and I always go with a plan of action, such as working on a certain technique or practising my footwork, so it will be interesting to see if I notice an increase in hand-eye coordination and reflexes, or anything related.

I’m also going to study more in-depth English Language from example exam papers to see if I can concentrate the effects onto studying something specific, and see how I can obtain information and learn differently in comparison to studying without Noopept. The bore and lack of interest is still fresh in my mind from School, so it shouldn’t be too hard to make a comparison, especially since I have an apparent goal!

This is more of a personal note, and for anybody else who is interested

What natural nootropics have you used?

It’s much more on the mild side, but I found great success if I drank a bottle of Neuro Passion as I started studying or doing work that needed focus. It was marketed as being good for having better sex, but I found the effects to be fantastic for cognitive function. Most stores didn’t carry it because of the sex stigma (the name already had to be changed from “Gasm”), so I had to buy it online. I haven’t actually tried the one they make for focus, but I will have to soon, because they ended up discontinuing Passion. I’m not happy about it, but I bet I bet I could come close to reproducing the effects by drinking “sonic” while supplementing with the other ingredients that were in “passion”.

I’ve seen them around, but never thought to try them!

One other thing that seemed to enhance my cognition was Creatine Monohydrate by USN. I know there are studies that have shown creatine to have positive effects on the brain, I just don’t know the specifics. There was definitely more clarity and energy though. It was more of a well-rested and refreshed clarity.

Here’s an interesting report on creatine and brain function:

Based on recent tests, Damiana definitely seems to have some sort of nootropic effect. There’s a definite smooth flow of thought, though I’ve noticed little else as yet. There may be a mild boost in energy as well, though this is entirely non-stimulating I feel, more akin to the mitochondrial enhancement of Methylene Blue or C60oo than D-Amphetamine or Caffeine.

Great posts. I have run out of my Piracetam, my goto, Noopept is what I’ve been using, on my second 10g bottle. I take @ 200 mg and I’m good for the day. Sharp as a tack, focused and ready to tear up my work. I get my orders from Newstar and they have been of Excellent quality.

I started out a thread years ago, on using mones that promote mental focus, here, and discussion did turn to Nootropics as well:

I’ve learned a few things here and thank you’all for sharing what you’ve used.

Oh, and the Neuro Sonic tastes good and is fine for a general bump in mental focus. I do enjoy it. Haven’t tried the ‘Gasm’… In the drink form!
neuro SONIC

I do recommend it to my friends and offer to buy them some to try it out!

Any additional suggestions or elaborations on your Couracetam or PRL-8-53 usage? If you’ve used Piracetam or Noopept, can you provide a comparison?

Thank you, my good man!

Thanks for the link! Fantastic thread! Bummer about the spammer, tho!

Piracetam I’d consider very different to Coluracetam and even moreso to PRL-8-53. It seems to promote this synergy between logical and creative thinking (left brain and right brain, respectively). As has often been reported by users, it definitely removes the tip-of-the-tongue feeling. The only similarity is in the additional energy provided, but Coluracetam I’d consider slightly superior in this respect - still the character of the energy boost is roughly the same, as all AMPAkines are. For its unique properties, I still find Piracetam useful at a dose of 1.6g. Probably due to being a high-affinity choline uptake (HACU) enhancer, Coluracetam doesn’t tend to cause headaches even without additional choline. I’d recommend avoiding combinations of Coluracetam with any choline source, as this has been reported to cause depression in some users. Krill Oil, however, is fine. Also avoid stacking too many AMPAkines, especially without additional choline. 3-4 seems to be about the limit, not counting Piracetam which is only a weak AMPAkine, though a dose of 5g may prove more problematic.

On another note, I plan to try Phenylpiracetam Hydrazide pretty soon here, and will likely try Curcumin (BCM-95) not long after. Reports to follow!

Thanks for those useful and detailed comments for my comparative digestion!

May I pick your brain on the efficacy of these as well, IYO?
Fasoracetam

Sunifiram

I’d like to read up on your conclusions of any additional Nootropics/Stack that you test out!

I’ve yet to try Fasoracetam and Sunifiram, but intend to try both as soon as possible, along with the even more impressive-looking Unifiram, not to mention Selank and the new N-Acetyl Semax, and a fairly long list of others.

I’ll be sure to post any of my other conclusions on here as soon as I find the time. N-Acetyl Semax I’m especially excited about!

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread!

So, around 2 hours ago I took a megadose (1g, orally) of Noopept. After, say, 30-45 minutes I began to feel extremely proactive, mentally and physically energetic, and naturally euphoric. I say ‘naturally’, because it doesn’t feel artificial; I just feel happy! I’m literally boiling with so much energy that I’m struggling to sit still, my shoulders feel loose and ready. It’s hard to explain, but think when you were back in school, and during P.E/Gym class you did them swinging arm rotations to warm up your muscles and joints. Then, when you have finished and go back to a natural static posture, the blood flow makes them feel ready for action - like that.

As well as that, I feel the need to elaborate in-depth on anything I say. I found myself mimicking a boxers stance, and shadow boxing whilst talking about the Mayweather v Pacquaio fight (5 more days! :o) like a maniac. I’m glad the person who I was speaking to knew me well, I don’t think I’d seem so normal if I started shadow boxing to a stranger mid-sentence!

It’s 12:40am where I live, yet I feel like I should be working out or studying!
