Here’s an interesting article.. I think it can be applied to other situations not just bars though..

Bar Social Psychology - Start At The Top at The “Infamous” Angel Eyes, Devil Smile

Many guys out there approach women in a bar or other crowded place and start at the wrong end of the scale… and could possibly be shooting themselves in the foot the entire time.
What do I mean exactly?
Well, let start with the social proof aspect of the pick up.
WHO you are seen talking to can make a HUGE difference in your success for the night.
Let me explain:
If you start at the “bottom” like most guys do… other people will see you with these women. You may think that you’re going for the “guarantees”, but other people will not know that you’ve never met them before. In other words, the “bottom” means the women that you think you can get with no effect… kind of like the “easy pickins”…
Don’t do that… always, always start at the top.
My advice… find the hottest person in the bar and go talk to HER…
Why?
Think about it this way… is there a possibility that you are going to get shot down… YEP.
But… even if you do… GUESS WHAT… she’s the hottest woman in the bar!
And… most hot women simply DO NOT try to make a big deal about letting a man down…
In other words, she’s not going to try to embarass you…
So why do we want to try to talk to the hottest woman in the bar…
It’s very simple.
Everyone will see you talking to her… which raises your value. They don’t know that you’ve never met her before… they don’t know that you just walked up to her and started talking. All everyone knows is what they see… and that’s the fact that YOU are WITH HER… if even for a little while.
Here’s another reason that you want to talk to the hottest woman in the bar…
Middle case scenario… she might put you in the “friend” zone and include you in her social group.
AND THAT’S OKAY!
Look, we’ve already discussed the importance of expanding your social group. You know she has other hot friends AND that she’ll favorably introduce you to them in time.
Not only that, but now you have a cool group of people that you can use to put you “in the mix” with other groups of people there.
Plus, now you’re out of the “that guy” zone
Remember something… just try to meet people… don’t worry about the outcome so much.
Do you want to know the final reason for talking to the hottest woman at the bar?
Because most men don’t HAVE THE CONFIDENCE to go up and talk to her… and this even means the men that could possibly LOOK BETTER than you.
Confidence is sexy… and because most men won’t go talk to her… you’ve just distinguished yourself from every other male in there.
So that means that there REALLY IS NO COMPETITION.
Think about that for a moment.
Most hot women really only get hit on by scuzz balls… you know… the “HEY BABY” types…
Show a little confidence and CLASS… and many times… you’ll be in without having to do anything special.
NICE.
Do you want to know my number one reason for NOT starting at the bottom?
Because a lot of “bottom” women have confidence issues and get pleasure out of turning down men. They have no other way to show their “dominance”… so they try to “act cool” and make you look bad.
This isn’t all of them… but I see more of this from the bottom than from the top…
Plus… if the “bottom” woman turns you down… just think what that does to your confidence level versus if the “hot” on turns you down….
Exactly.
Just remember… start at the top… have no expectations… and go with the flow. The worst that can happen is NOTHING. A most likely scenario… especially if you are putting the lessons on this site to use… is that she’ll include you in her social circle…
And that’s when things get easy…

Excellent article, and somethig I learned many years ago. It’s usually easier to talk to and pick up the hottest girls in a club, than it is in trying to pick up the average looking ones. And, many of the hotest girls are a little self conscious because the guys don’t talk to them and instead are hitting on girls far less attractive than they are.

There is usually a lot less competition in chasing the hotties too, becasue as stated in the article: guys are not confident enough to approach the best looking girl in the club, or are initmidated by her.

Even if they do end up in the friend zone, and I have several that are, it makes it soooo much easier to meet other women when you have a couple of hotties hanging with you. The other girls see them with you, figure their must be a reason for it, and your value to them just increased 300%.

At my regular nightclub I usually have several hot “friend” girls who will come over and give me a hug when they see me. Many times I’ll walk in the club and sit near a couple of attractive women, then over the next 10 or 15 minutes they’ll see 4 or 5 girls come over and hug me and chat for a bit. It’s then soooo easy to slide over and start talking to them, and an intro that usually works great is to tell them that I saw them when I first walked in and wanted to come over, but didn’t want to keep getting interrupted.
