Guide for women to pickup men in clubs

I thought all a woman had to do to pickup a hot man at a club was to show up, turn down all the guys she doesn’t want, and select the guy she does want. This article implies that it might be a little more difficult than that for women.

The Super Secret Woman’s Guide to Picking Up Guys at Bars & Clubs - Associated Content - associatedcontent.com

It is only difficult for a woman to pick up guys at the bar if:
1 - She sets her standards higher than her level of physical attractiveness allows.

or…

2 - Her level of physical attractiveness is well below average.

What a low quality article!
The advice is either a no brainer, cringeworthy, or counterproductive. Plus women don’t need help if all they want is sex. Even if it is sex with a handsome guy.

I’d say when it comes to dating and relationships, women need strategy as much as men do. That is if you want to find a compatible, highly desirable partner and be treated well. It is easy to get a boyfriend but it is not easy to learn to recognize the right guy and know how to kindle a hot and lasting fire through wind and rain.

There are plenty of beautiful women who are being mistreated and plenty of average looking women who are adored. Beauty helps attract men to you, but especially after a few dates, you cannot rely on it alone.

I remember a remarkably beautiful woman who, when asked by one of a handful of guys following her around at a bar “Who would ever leave YOU alone”, she answered “Not you, apparently!”

For her, the looks were everything.

It is most important to have a realistic impression of oneself, how one appears to others physically, from multiple angles, how one appears to others emotionally, and how one appears to others on an intellectual plane.

When one has this 3-D level of self awareness, one can dress, speak, and interact with an understanding of how one impacts others.

Generally I find that rather few people grasp how their public self is taken by others, there are guys who wildly overestimate their intellect or imagine that quite trivial concerns of their will be immediately appreciated by someone who they have never met, I have been trapped in one sided conversations with men and women who have no idea of how banal their “insights” sound, or those with mind-stunning bad breath that don’t perceive that their conversational target is turning green, not with envy. I have also had more experiences than I care to remember where I have been in the flow of conversation with someone who suddenly, unilaterally decides that they are tired of the topic and simply turns away and tunes out as if their interest is the most important thing in the world. They appear to be of the theory that others exist to entertain them as a television show might.

I can well contrast this with many experiences I had as a child among people who were superb natural conversationalists, not necessarily the most sophisticated folk, but people who had grown up in what I’d call human culture, where there wasn’t much television (yet), most interaction was face to face, great volumes were communicated by voice tone and inflection, there was a natural appreciation for timing; ellipsis, irony, metaphor and metonymy were judged to worthy social arts, a beautiful turn of phrase was something to be savored, cultural knowledge was respected, “self respect” was considered a fundamental virtue, and one’s word was never given lightly or in jest. One said what one meant and meant what one said.

When I read these advisory things, I have to ask myself, absent essential virtue, who the hell cares what your story is?

I like how NONE of the advice given has anything whatsoever to do with the woman actually growing a backbone (a pair would be scary) and initiating an interaction. You know, taking the emotional risk of rejection by walking up, introducing herself, asking to dance or offering to buy the man a drink.
I would think in the age of equality, a gender that’s constantly reminding us of how much more emotionally mature they are compared to men should have enough confidence and security to “go after what they want”.

Now I’m not bashing women, I actually know a fair number of women that are in fact that forward and bless their liberated hearts for it too. But sadly women that are that strong and secure emotionally are few and far between. In fact on one occasion I was approached by a woman, however she really wasn’t my type. She wasn’t unattractive but the “it” just wasn’t there. So anyway I politely declined and I really was polite. …Holy shitballs did she flip out on me. First I was asked if I was a homosexual, since clearly being hetero would make me fall over myself in gratitude at her even deeming me worthy of her attention. I told her I was very much straight. So she asked if I was married or involved, I was single at the time and told her so. So she says “So you’re basically just an asshole then?, well go fuck yourself and have a good night”
I couldn’t stop smirking at the humor of the whole thing. Had our roles been reversed even suggesting that her lack of interest might be related to her sexual orientation would make me look like an asshole of the highest order. Yet on the rare occasions that I see women “man up” and make the first move, they very rarely handle rejection near as well as men.
Best advice that could, and should have been given is “own your shit”. Take a little more personal responsibility for who you meet and how. The men that respond favorably would actually be the best kind as weak men tend to get intimidated by women that are forward and aggressive. Being forward and aggressive would be an ideal way to weed out the weak and timid among the group. Become what you want to attract.
