Breath, what do you use for it?

I’d say this is related to colognes.

What do you all use for your breath? I’ve found SO much good information on this forum about colognes, oils, and of course pheromones. All stuff I knew relatively nothing about before.

So if you guys have some tips/tricks with anything related to your breath and making smell awesome, I’d love to hear it.

Currently, I just floss daily, tongue scraper once in a while, and brush my teeth and gums with normal toothpaste that usually changes each time I need a new tube, and of course some listerine mouthwash.

I chew a lot of gum, which I don’t like. It’s began to make my teeth sensitive, and I know the sugars/sweeteners in it can’t be good for me. I also hate all the waste associated with gum…the wrappers and packages.

My own philosophy is that clean and natural is good.

I’m all for brushing, flossing, and using a tongue scraper. When I brush I also hit the roof of my mouth and gums.

Listerene and gum I do without. Both tend to create an unnatural environment in the mouth. Of course, advertisements will tell you otherwise. Perhaps without paying money to the corporate owners of Listerine a big black cloud will emerge from your mouth to drive away all beautiful members of the opposite sex.

But perhaps not.

Perhaps by disinfecting your mouth you are upsetting the bacterial balance and actually creating an environment that is waiting for various odd types of bacteria to take hold, creating odd smells and the need for further disinfectant treatments.

It’s not on the commercials but it might be considered.

Brush, floss, tongue scraper, annual dental visits, and I carry around a box of altoids to freshen things up.

I am always shocked by how many people don’t floss. Gross!

I am also not an advocate of antibacterial oral hygiene products like breathRx. These just carry out artificial selection for bacteria that are resistant to them, plus a healthy person shouldn’t need them if they are brushing and flossing.

I spray Green Irish Tweed in my mouth…it works

lmao, that’s your secret. i knew it.

i use Crest Whitening Rinse. great for killing bad breath and keeping it that way.

Nah i Was kidding…I dont spray it in my mouth..I am not even sure if that is healthy..

I floss daily and brush a few times a day.
I do use mouthwash but not all the time.
I always have wintergreen mints which are my favorite and I pull oil every morning which has made my teeth much whiter and stronger as well as keeping my mouth fresh. (crazy as it may sound it works and the whole post office is doing it now LOL)

Tisha

only an intense make out session will confirm if it’s working  i nominate, ME for the experiment!

Water.

When your mouth gets dry, your breath goes bad.

Which brings us to Biotene! All natural enzyme protection for dry mouth problems (also good for bad breath.)

how is that stuff is it better then listerene?

Yes, no alcohol and it uses natural enzymes to kills germs. Flavored with Xylitol as well.

I’ll second the Biotene.

If you have any problems with your gut, throat, or mouth, there is nothing better. Tastes good. Feels good. You could get your kids to use it.

And why do I get a different toothpaste every time the tube runs out? I know I should just use baking soda with a drop of mint and be done with it. I’m such a sucker for commercial crap.

Denec, I have a Green Irish Tweed knockoff. Do you think it would be equally effective?

OoohYahhh

The best knockoff for GIT, IMO is an authentic Cool Water, but what you are missing is the beautiful ambergris drydown..knockoffs are dangerous, you have no idea what they are putting in, though more then likely they are just putting in Cool water since it is so cheap,

I am going to pick up that biotene and try it out instead of listerene, i always hate how listerene always dries my mouth up, thanks!

from ABC News:

According to many experts, mouthwash does not eliminate bad breath. The mouthwash works at first – killing lots of germs. Then, the bad news. Germ expert Dr. Phillip Tierno, a professor at New York University, says that the bad breath you wanted to prevent gets even worse. He says the alcohol content present in many mouthwashes can dry your mouth out. When the saliva glands are dry, they are unable to help wash away bacteria so the stinky stuff flourishes.

I second Biotene. Hospitals use it.
I second water. Water truly is the elixir of life.

You should try scraping/cleaning your tongue! Because that’s where all the bad breath stuff really hangs out!

You can buy tongue-scraper/cleaner thingies at most any pharmacy, I’ve seen them there.

I think the stuff that you can scrape off your tongue looks gross, but IMO it is not the worst culprit. The tongue scraping contains your normal mouth bacteria that have overgrown, which produces sour morning breath.

The really putrid stuff comes from the crap between your teeth that rots if you don’t floss, and the little pockets of infection that form over the years from chronic lack of flossing and dental care that prevents gum disease.

btw thanks guys for Biotene!!!

I picked up a bottle a week ago and not only does it taste great but it doe snot burn my mouth but it does keep my mouth fresh for hours and does not dry out…superb!!!

My mom’s an endodontist so she’s turned me into a hygiene geek; like forever and ever, I’ve had the same formula of using Plax before brushing, using a good whitening toothpaste(Aquafresh Extreme Clean is my favorite), flossing, and lastly, Biotene but Act is also really, really good; my mom’s recommended it for patients after root canals for strengthening teeth. I unfortunately tried Listerine one time before sleeping and woke up with bad morning breath; Biotene actually keeps my mouth fresh overnight

For classes and eveywhere else, I use BreathRX mints…I gave up on gum like in 7th grade after it started making my teeth sensitive =/

The worst bad breath comes from the digestive tract (i.e., from inside your intestines), not from the mouth.

The solutions for that are drinking plenty of water (already mentioned by others here), eating yogurt or taking acidophilus pills, and taking digestive enzymes with your food so that it is properly digested.

Avoiding junk food obviously helps.

If you drink coffee, lattes create worse breath than coffees without milk, because there is a chemical reaction between the coffee and the milk that does nasty things to your breath.
