Ever heard of oil pulling? Check it out!

During my coconut oil experiment, Kusro introduced me to a detox method called oil pulling. Very simple, really… in the morning, upon rising and on an empty stomache, swish 2 teaspoons to 1 tablespoon sunflower, sesame or virgin coconut oil in the mouth for 20 minutes. The method is described as “gently sipping, sucking and pulling the oil through the teeth”. At the end of the 20 minutes spit the oil into the toilet and flush it away. Then rinse out the mouth with water and brush your teeth. This is also when I scrape my tongue since the tongue can trap all kinds of stuff.

I’m not certain what causes the method to be so effective but these are the benefits I’ve received in just a week of swishing one time per morning:

whiter, brighter smile - I had my teeth professionally bleached by my dentist two years ago and they never got this white and pretty.

healthier gums - no puffiness… no pain or bleeding during flossing

I’ve stopped snoring - this is a biggie for me! I snore and my bf does not :frowning: LOL To the point that he has to wear ear plugs when we slept together. No more ear plugs because… I no longer snore! Yayyyy!

Better elimination! This is a good one. For your sakes, however, I will not elaborate. :stuck_out_tongue:

Decreased appetite - thumbs up! LOL

I sleep like a log! I had gotten so used to poor sleep that I didn’t know I wasn’t sleeping well until I started oil pulling. I received this benefit immediately. When I lay down to sleep I sleep so deeply and awake so rested. It reminds me of how I slept when I was a child. Really amazing.

More energy - At first I actually needed more sleep. I guess this was a detoxing thing? But these days I have more energy on less sleep.

No more fuzz - I thought it was normal that I had fuzzy teeth in the morning or after waking up from a nap. These days I wake up and have no fuzz on my teeth and morning breath is a thing of the past.

I’m surprised this simple method has given me so many benefits and, from what I’ve read online, there’s more to come.

Hugs for you, Kusro! Thanks for sharing, buddy!

Wow this sounds really interesting…You just do this in the morning? and it has all those effects right through the dazy even to the night! Doesn’t your mouth get tired after 20 mins, and does the oil make you want to gag at all? Thanks hun!

Just would like to mention that I’ve also given this about a week run and can report most of the same results. Whiter teeth, gums feel healthier etc. Theres a lot of people who call it quakery but just because there isn’t a lot of science to back something up, that doesn’t necessarily mean that it doesn’t work.

Something I also highly recommend now is ionic toothbrushes. There is science to back this technology up but I’m to lazy to search for it right now. Should be easy to find on the google.

After about 3 days of use my teeth felt like I just received a really good cleaning. You know how right after a really good cleaning your teeth feel nice a smooth? Well thats how my teeth feel all the time now.

It works by sending negitively charged ions into your mouth as you brush. Because plaque sticks to your teeth with positive ions, the negative ions cancel the charge or bind to the plaque particles(I’m not sure exactly) and the plaque just slides off your teeth. You don’t have to brush harder or anything and it reaches all the plaque at the gumline and much of the plaque between your teeth.

My moms teeth have turned about 4 shades whiter after two weeks of use…she is a heavy smoker so I wouldn’t expect the same results unless you are as well. She is also showing definite signs of re-enamalization. Now my whole family owns them and I buy them as gifts for people.

Not sure why they aren’t popular in the good old USA but you buy one for under 20 dollars after shipping on ebay from Japan that comes with 2 replaceable heads and a battery life of longer than a year. Theres a more expensive version but they do the exact same thing. I tried to keep this short but could easily write pages about it so I’ll stop here.

Cheers

Hey CC! Yep, I do it in the morning as soon as I wake up. I do it while taking my shower, washing my face and doing my hair. That way it’s not like I’m carving out an extra 20 minutes, you know?

My mouth got kinda tired at first… but it really is gentle. It’s not like a vigorous swishing. At first it was harder to hold the oil in.. LOL But I’ve gotten stronger, I guess? No more issues with that. I’ve had no issues with gagging. I tend to keep the back of my tongue pressed to the roof of my mouth while swishing. This allows the front of my tongue to still move freely.

Oh, and I probably should have mentioned that oil mixes with the building saliva and the oil thins. By the end, it’s not like oil, at all. It’s more frothy like your saliva. It’s this mixture that’s supposed to be effective at eliminating the toxins. So the longer you can pull/swish the better. I sat down to check my email this morning and it was 30 minutes before I noticed! Wild…

It’s the latest “healing” craze. Some seem to swear by it. I did it religiously for three months straight and noticed nothing, not even whiter teeth. Maybe I didn’t stick with it long enough, but if that’s the case, how the heck long does it take to see or feel any changes?

I’m not sure, Holmes. I had only heard about it last week so, maybe it’s only super healing for the really toxic? LOL

Seriously, I read lots of different experiences and I was surprised that I received soooo many benefits. Sorry it didn’t work for you, buddy. What kind of oil did you use? I’ve heard of people using different oils that did not go well.

I used sunflower oil. But yeah, I do remember reading that different types of oil will work better/not as well for different people. And I do know some who have benefitted - or said they have - from the process. Perhaps coconut oil should be next on my list?

Sunflower is definitely one of the recommended ones.. but yeah, I got great results with virgin coconut oil. I like cold pressed sesame oil even better, though. If you decide to give it another shot, I hope it works for you this time.

I’ve got an ionic toothbrush but not sure I’ve noticed a difference.. normal electric one seems to clean more..

I’ve heard about that some time ago, too (I tried for some days only), but it was recommended using extra virgin olive oil… Maybe I’ll give it a try someday again!

Thank you for the great info! I have never heard of this before. Now that I have coconut oil after reading your other thread hehe I will give this a shot. My last trip to the dentist I had an anxiety attack ~ that was cavity number 17 for me. My teeth are like playdough so Ill try anything! I also grind my teeth really badly at night, my bf says it sounds like im chewing on bones (omfg gross), and he has to wake me up 2-3 times on some nights.. I wonder if this could help with that? I won’t wear a mouthguard because I can’t fall asleep with it in >_<

edit: I dunno if I could do 2 tsp or 1 tbsp.. I am trying 1 tsp right now and my mouth is full lol >_< small mouth

Sure bubblebob, give it another shot with sunflower or sesame (not toasted). I’d stay away from extra virgin olive oil, though… I read that some people received a yellow tint on their teeth with that one.

That’s so cool! You’re first time at oil pulling, awesome. Let me know how it goes. Hopefully it’ll help you to harden your teeth again. I’ve read that it can help some people refasten loose teeth. Good luck!

As for teeth grinding, Rab, I’ll look around and see if I see any natural remedies? I’ll PM you if I find anything that might be useful.

Holmes give it a try with VCO, or cold pressed organic sesame(untoasted) or even Hemp oil.

Rabmonk006,
I found this info from my encyclopaedia of natural healing:
“There maybe some links between teeth grinding with anxiety and with alcohol consumption.”
The easiest thing recommended under the aromatherapy is mix a blend of essential oils of lavender, geranium and bergamot in sweet almond oil or peach kernel oil to calm the nerves and prevent attacks.
I remember when I used to be in college, long time ago, I had the same problem. Teeth used to grind and jaws lock into each other and i would semi-consiously fight to open my jaws without success for a few mins, until it passed by its own. When I finished college it became less and less and went away on its own. I guess it could be related to stress and anxiety.
In Herbalism a tea of skullcap and valerian is the recommended remedy. its recommended to drink the tea three times daily.
In traditional home remedies, Oats is recommended as a nerve tonic. Make some nice oat porridge.

Ok I am going to give this a try  I like white teeth. Normally I use strawberries to brush them and it makes them whiter but I like the other effects of this method.

So this is what I need correct …

Is it hard to find or do most organic stores have it ? Remember I am on crutches LOL

Maybe this will help my knee, Maybe not fix it but help it heal better along with the other suggestions I have gotten. Hey if not I will sleep good and have a nice smile

Tisha

Thanks Kusro! That last incident at the dentist was the only anxiety attack I have ever had - I just really really really hate the dentist lol, having so many cavities all the time >_< I normally get Novocaine + laughing gas and this time I tried to forgo the laughing gas - bad idea! I even have to get 3-5 shots of Novocaine because they never hit the right spot with me. I only grind my teeth while I’m sleeping, never when I am awake. My teeth are super-sensitive so I can’t imagine how I sleep through it! Lavender sounds promising for bed time, maybe it will calm me down or something? thanks again

You are correct! And, yes, it should be at any organic/health food store. The thought of you on crutches is so sad sad sad! I hope this does help in some way… even if it’s just great sleep so you can heal better.

Tisha what happened? Sorry to hear that you are on crutches. I hope you recover soon. Most organic shops do have it. Once you do it you will be a convert.

Thanks Kusro

Here is my knee post

I am staying off it as much as I can till I find out what they are going to do. I have to admit it feels a bit better today so I am hopefull I wont need surgery.
