Anyone ever do a cleanse?

After the last few weeks of not eating healthy, drinking, and just overall bad choices has anyone done a full body cleanse?

I’ve eaten strict and healthy before, I just wanted something to help me get going again.

Thanks

I did a homemade version of the Master Cleanse, but probably not long enough to notice any noticable differences - I think I did 5 days? Maybe even less. The Master Cleanse is squeezed lemon, maple syrup, cayenne pepper and you only drink this liquid. I think if you do it properly it will give good results, especially done with laxative herbal teas and saltwater flushes - but it can be time consuming, and you usually have to set aside a good week or so to totally commit.

If you’re not looking for something drastic, maybe even just re-adjusting what you put into/on your body would help lighten up a little?

I have done the Master Cleanse fast many times and believe it to be one of the healthyest cleanses you can do. If you do a google search you can find a lot of info which discusses the health benefits and find the easy recipie. I especailly enjoy what happens to you both physically and mentally. For me it takes 3 days for the temptation of eating other foods to go away. As toxins are being released from your body you will get a terrible taste in your mouth and bad breath. This is a good thing, it means its working. For me about the 4th day I have feelings of euphoria. Stronger mental awareness. Dont even think about food much at all UNLESS seeing a comercial on TV about fast food made me want it.

For best benefits it is recommended to try for a 10 day cleanse, you drink only the lemonade mixture, made with organic grade B maple syrup, fresh-squeezed lemon or lime juice, and cayenne pepper added to spring, distilled, or purified (NOT fluoridated) water. You can drink as much as you want all day long.

I like to do a cleanse once or twice a year. I always feel fantastic afterwards. How could you not really cuz you’ve kick started your body. After a cleanse, it’s a great time to change your eating habbits.

Hope this helps a little.

Jasmin does them often. Send her a PM and I’ll drop her an email to see if she can’t drop by

I do them once every three months depending on how well I have been eating and my mental state during that period. If I have been eating well, taking time for myself and am not under stress I will do them less often.

There are lots of ways to cleanse, it really depends on your needs and life style. I dont like the detoxes you just buy in the store. Its like replacing processed crap with another form of processed crap. I love juicing and cant say enough good things about it though.

If your serious about cleansing get yourself a juicer. I have both the champion and the Jack Lalanne. JL is inexpensive (as juicers go) easier to use and clean. Champion you get more juice out of but its expensive and a bitch to clean. The JL is the one I prefer right now just cause its easy.

A general cleanse… I will use a combo of organic carrots, celery (lots of Kale) Dandelion greens, Parsley, one small garlic clove (not the bulb) 1/4 of a beet, apple, grapes (hand full) and juice them then add a little flax seed. That’s just what I like though. You can get a book on foods that cleanse and create you own recipes. They have some online as well.

I make my juice in the morning and generally drink it all day. If I feel I need something solid I will only eat some raw organic nuts and seeds. That only happened the first few times I fasted. I change my juice recipe a little each day but not drastically. I will do this from about 3 to 5 days. I suggest since your new to this you start slow on on a day your home and not at work.

If you dont want to buy the juicer you can just eat the organic fruits and veggies. Stay away from everything processed. No alcohol caffeine junk food etc etc. You want what you ingest as close to its natural state as possible.

The master cleanse is good to but I just felt it was rather stringent and unnecessary to achieve a cleanse. It doesn’t nourish your body while cleaning it only strips it of toxins.

When I am not doing a actual detox I will still juice but usually only a few times a week with different recipes I like that help with my life style at the moment or whatever’s ailing me.

For instance in the winter I like…

1 apple, 1 carrot, 1 small beet with the greens, Some Kale, 1 small cayenne pepper and I grate some fresh ginger in there. Yummy. This is a warming drink that balances you and helps your immune system.

Word about beets >>>>> You will pee red so prepare yourself LOL I generally dont like beets but in a juice with at least one sweet fruit or carrots which are sweet I love it. Who new LOL Its important to try it before you say I dont like it.

Now that takes care of the body, How about your mind and spirit ? Dont forget those.

The same week of the fast I will take lots of sea salt baths.

I also go out in nature connect with the earth and get dirty. Maybe hug a tree or two LOL. I meditate and journal more, balance my chakras. Reevaluate my thoughts and goals, read more, De clutter my head. I like to swim or just float around in the ocean preferably naked but I cant do that all the time and I have a secret fear of Sharks and jellyfish so someone has to go with me  Well its not a secret anymore LOL

Even de-cluttering your living space has a amazing effect on how you feel. I do that every few months as well.

There are loads of ways to take care of the mind and spirit you just have to make time to do it.

Oh one more thing for body >>> Long time ago we talked about oil pulling here on the forum and it really works. I have no ideal why it just does. I have everyone at the PO doing it LOL

Edit to add… Oh and herbal teas, I can go on about those for days. I use those to help maintain health and flush toxins.

Jazzy is a bit busy right now but she had four words for yah to Google: hulda clarke, liver cleanse.

Enjoy

You are the man.

Give jazzy my best tell her we miss her

Thank you Tisha,

I’ve been reading up on Natural Cleanses and I’ve stumbled upon Jack’s juicing techniques. I mean the guy looks great and since you’re what I consider an expert in this field, I’m going to do research on this as well on what are the best friends and veggies to mix out there. Also thanks for the startup recipes, I’m going to go and look to purchase his juicer soon.

Master cleanse isn’t that bad for you, nutritional wise if just done for a week correct? I know its stripping the body of minerals and vitamins but I have had friends that tried it, and they’ve felt great afterwards. I’m also in pretty decent shape, so hopefully it won’t adversely affect my workout routine.

I’m just sick and tired of waking up certain days feeling like crap because of the foods I ate the night before. Hopefully this helps me get back on track, thanks again for the detailed response.

The problem I see with master cleanse the way I understand it is that you are pretty much getting no calories in your diet. Your also only drinking lemonade with a little cayenne pepper in it? Its one of those things that just do not make sense. Your voiding yourself of nutrition for a whole week and only intaking minimal things you could actually call food. Not to to mention it says to take a laxative at night. So if your not eating, what the hell are you crapping out? It just doesn’t seem right.

I know someone that did a fast for religious reasons for 30 days. He still came and worked out with us and managed to stay active and busy, without it taking much of a toll on him. He went the juice route, which to me makes way more sense since juice will get you needed nutrients and calories. Just keep junk/ unnatural stuff out of the diet and I think it will work wonders, though I admit I haven’t tried it out myself.

Maiden, the lemonade mixture has (or should have!) a pretty good amount of organic maple syrup in it. At least, enough to make the drink taste sweet to me. The stuff you cleanse out of your body is the built-up toxins that you’ve accumulated before. As long as you don’t push yourself to work out excessively, the lemonade mixture provides enough to sustain you for the course of the cleanse.

I think the main difference between something like the Master Cleanse and juice or alkali programs is that a Master Cleanse it only temporary. It’s not really recommended for more than 2 weeks, and most people do it for much less a time than that. Also it’s designed for flushing toxins out of your body, pretty much nothing more, if I understand correctly. Meanwhile the juice/alkali-foods route is more of a diet than a cleanse. It can be, and in many cases meant to be, an ongoing thing - it’s adjusting your diet, simply. Which is why it still nourishes and keeps your body in order. I don’t know if my post makes sense but I hope it does!

I understand why you would be wary of a Master Cleanse because it doesn’t pack much for your body, but it really is only a temporary flush-out of toxins, and is not meant to replace your normal diet or really even nourish your body with extra goodness.

I am not saying the master cleanse is bad, its just taxes the system to long. Those type fasts shouldn’t be done for more then a few days IMO. Even juicing shouldn’t be done for more then a week.

Adding juicing to healthy eating plan is a diet. Juicing to cleanse toxins is not a diet its a natural way to eliminate toxins without shocking the system, while improving your natural health. Whats the use of clearing toxins if you dont replace them with healthy nutrients or you continue eating the way that made you toxic to begin with. Some people think its a good way to lose weight but I dont agree. You only lose muscle mass not fat if you stay on it exclusively for more then a week. It doesn’t stay off.

The master cleanse you begin to lose muscle mass even faster because there is very little nutrients for the body to run on. Its gotta run on something. People report higher energy because the body switched to burning its own fuel, its muscle. Your heart is a muscle. I dont think its harmful if done for a 2 to 3 days but more then that and you begin to tax the system. Your body needs certain nutrients to function. For instance without potassium the body can go into failure in about 7 days but you get signs of damage before then. High blood pressure, palpitations, poor concentration, confusion, weakness.

Some people get irritable during prolonged fasts. The “gurus” say its from the toxins leaving the body. Its not its the first sign of potassium deficiency. There is very little potassium in the master cleanse, you can sustain it for a short period but again what is the sense of cleansing your body if your damaging it to do so. You cleanse for health. Also Never work out when doing any cleanse, your body needs to rest during a cleanse. I slow everything down during a fast, I dont go to work or do anything strenuous.

It takes 2 to 7 days to expel everything solid in your digestion tract depending on how much processed crap you eat. Thats what your pooping out not toxins. The toxins dont come out with your BM thats just bulk waste, they come out with your urine. The master cleanse is flushing everything out including those nutrients you need for a healthy functioning heart and kidneys.

My way of thinking is if your cleaning for health dont cut your nose off to spite your face. Do it the right way. Replace the good with the bad. In a world with the mentality that more is better people have taken the fast to longer and longer periods of time which is just not good. More is not better, sometimes more is harmful. So if you decide to master cleanse just do it for a few days because your stripping nutrients as well as toxins.

Tisha

I understand both points and I think that Tisha pretty much got most of my concerns with the master cleanse. Personally, I do not think that it is for me, however juicing for a few days is something that I am willing to try, and might even give a try in the very near future. We have a juicer that is never used, might as well give it a shot!

I will most likely go with the juicing.

I’m more muscular than fat, I think you’ve seen my pic before, and I don’t want to lose that, I just thought that all the non-organic, fast food that I’ve eaten over the past week has taken its toll on my body.

I can feel it inside and it’s like bleh. I figured this would help me feel better quicker and I can resume my diet again. My diet is pretty good now so hopefully juicing can help me out.

I also am an avid juicer. I now eat more vegetables and fruit than I ever did and have lost 30 lbs. A better alternative to juicing, the kind that removes the pulp is to use a blender and drink the pulp and all. You can’t just use any blender though, you need to have a very powerful blender. They are not cheap. I use a Blend Tec blender which is around 400 bucks but to me is well worth the investment. Don’t buy the Montel Williams one you see on TV. Reviews on it have been terrible. There is also the Vitamix which is an excellent blender as well and also expensive.

Would recommend using organic veggies and fruit if you can. I like to avoid any genetically modified foods as well.

I juice pretty much daily and organic is the ONLY way to go. Highly recommend washing everything before though. My brother was a fighter pilot (FA-18 Hornet) in the navy and whenever they came in on approach they’d dump their fuel. S.O.P. and it was always over farm land.

My daily juice routine
carrots
celery stalks
radishes
broccoli
squash
Zucchini
cabbage
garlic
ginger
some other stuff that I can’t remember.

Its good for yah!

Apples and fruits too

Congrats on the weight lose.

OMG I love the vitamix mixer. They do cost a lot of money but are well worth it.

I make smoothies with vegtables and fruits using the Magic bullet only for ease of use. Its not the greatest by far but it gets the job done.

I dont always throw my pulp away from my JL. I make muffins cookies and all sorts of yummy things. I have this one raw cookie recipe that is just out of this world. Nothing bad in it at all. Both my sons scarf them up all the time. I didnt tell them what was in them until after the first few times they ate them. You should have seen the look on there faces LOL

Tisha

ok… gonna try a 5 day juice fast/detox.. starting sunday. Wish me luck lol. Very interested to see what kind of difference it makes in me.

Oh Tisha… Any chance you would share your raw cookie recipe with us? You’ll be my BFF if you do.

Sure no problem,

First it depends on what your put in your juicer. I usually go with a simple juice recipe. If you have a real powerful juicer the pulp will be to dry. The JL juicer is a mid range one so the pulp is semi moist still. If you find your pulp is to dry then you can add a few spoonfuls of water or add a half a avocado to your juice mix.

Be sure when you use pulp that your only buying organic produce. I only juice organic anyways.

I usually use a mix of carrots, celery, kale, zucchini and then throw in 2 fruits like apple and grapes. Sometimes I use pumpkin or broccoli

You can use what ever you like, I just stay away from the spicy or strong tasting veggies like onion peppers garlic radish etc etc when I know I will be using the pulp.

Put your pulp in a big bowl. Pick out the big pieces if you have any. Mix it up a little and add a few spoons of water only if needed. You want to be able to make little cookie balls out of the pulp (but not yet)

I usually eyeball the amounts but you want about 2 to 3 cups of pulp for a small batch of cookies.

Now you need some…

Dates
Raw walnuts
raw shredded coconut
raw agave or honey
Carob powder

chop up your dates and throw them in your pulp. I use about 4 to 5 big dates.

Crush a 1/2 cup of raw walnuts and throw it in the pulp

put a 1/4 cup of shredded coconut in

2 table spoons of carob powder, you can also use chips if you prefer or omit them all together. Its up to you.

The honey or agave you have to eyeball because this helps keep your cookies together. I use 2 tablespoons to start and add a little more if needed.

Now mix it all up in little balls about the size of a full walnut.

Take your shredded coconut and spread some out on a plate then roll your cookie balls in the coconut.

Refrigerate them and waalaa your have yummy raw cookies to snack on.
