Agreed, which is called the comfort stage. Thing is the guy that will sleep with a girl and move on is a very small minority. Most of the guys I knew growing up would get so unbelievably love sick over a girl that when the sex boundary was crossed, they were goners. At that point the world revolved around the girl. And the ones that never get to cross that line were the same type of guys but never given a chance to show it.
Actually and I know there are exceptions but this is the core of my point. The girls I used to get friendzoned with WOULD go out and sleep with guys they considered physically hot, even if they were rude, arrogant, not that bright etc. Because he met her physical needs. In fact the less patient and understanding the guy was, the better his chances were of being in a sexual relationship. And guys see this often enough to notice the pattern.
This is why I, and guys I’ve advised in the past always start showing sexual interest and building sexual tension early. Ultimately friendzoneing occurs because of a failure on the mans part to communicate that he is a sexual being. Not proud to admit it but when I was young and got stuck in the friend zone it was because I may as well have been a eunuchor at least gay.
What’s wrong with it that two of three people are getting what they want and getting their needs met at the expense of a third. The Jerk that displays NONE of the higher qualities the girl SAYS she wants is getting the sex he wants. The girl is getting her physical needs met with the Jerk (I assume otherwise she wouldn’t be with him) and getting her emotional needs met by using the fact that the nice guy wants her bad enough that he believes that by being the rock she can lean on that one day she’ll realize he’s the right guy for her. But all he gets is used when she needs him and then forgotten. Being used emotionally is as bad to men as being used physically is to women.
Perhaps I misspoke. I meant women I’m not interested in sexually. My female friends are relationships where they’re more like sisters which would make escalating the relationship sexual a bit creepy. As for limitations on the friendship. There’s a reason for that. First I’ve learned that telling a woman that the man she’s seeing is no good for her never works. I could point out that the man is wanted in several states for back child support, has no job, lives in his mothers basement and has two strikes on his record and give her every logical reason you could think of to run away from him screaming. And all it will do is put her in a defensive mindset and drive her even closer to him. Listning to her problems with men and giving her any advice she asks for is a waste of breath and an exercise in futility. And it hurts my ego to have a woman I might be interested in romantically drone on about the guy she DID decide was sex worthy yet has none of the positive qualities she herself says that I do. But if I’m interested in her, then it hurts just seeing her get hurt as well.
Besides which. me holding back a part of my emotional self is as much a limitation as her holding back a part of her physical self. It’s no more a limiting than saying “No sex”. Everyone has boundaries and a right to have them regardless of gender.
No insult, and my brain is the part that tell me “insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting a different result” I’m very much driven by my baser instincts and my brain understand the biological imperative. I desire both sex AND companionship with a woman that will give me children. Allowing myself to become “one of the girls” doesn’t serve that purpose. And only makes for a relationship that serves her emotional needs but provides me with frustration. I would no more subject myself to the emotional discomfort of watching a woman I want sleep with other men than the woman would sleeping with a man she wasn’t attracted to. So I move on.
I have to disagree with the last part. In my opinion, it’s a mans lack of ego that gets him stuck in the friend box. Women don’t “friend zone” men for being arrogant. If ego doesn’t get the man into a sexual zone it gets him into NO zone. The friend zone is reserved for men that are either A.) mutually not interested in sex same as the woman in which case it’s great that both parties are on the same page. Or B.) he was unable to communicate his masculinity and and present himself as a sexual being early on in the relationship so she just “doesn’t see him that way”
Agreed, and I’m not suggesting that a man can’t be a womans friend, or that friendship and sex are mutually exclusive. Simply that it’s difficult and painful for a lot of men to be “JUST friends” with a woman they’re romantically attracted to
Oh I do I freely admit it. However it’s not that we don’t consider a woman to be “not worth keeping as a friend” so much as our own wants create a conflict of interest that can make it very painful to do so, especially when the woman see’s you as so asexual a being that she feels no hesitation or consideration for your own feelings that she thinks it’s totally ok to talk to you about the romantic and sexual part of her life that she knows full well you want to be a part of. It’s not an insult, it just means we’re not feeling very masochistic.
Likewise I never discuss my romantic relationships with my female friends. If any are interested in me romantically they have not made their feelings known but women are less inclined to risk their ego by taking responsibility for escalating the relationship so I suppose it’s possible that I may have a female friend that thinks of me in a romantic sense. I doubt it but knowing that it’s possible I keep that part of my life out of it. I can’t imagine a woman that is romantically attracted to me being interested or comfortable hearing me talk about my relationship with some other woman anymore than I would be interested in hearing a woman I wanted, talking about the guy she’s seeing. I know how much it can hurt and I won’t do that to another person.
