Common effect: 'Motivated to do stuff'

I have seen this self effect come up again and again, especially with putatives. In old posts and new, this effect, an inner motivation to work or achieve goals that one would normally procrastinate over is quite common. I have a couple theories about it.

  1. Dopamine. Pheromones seem to work with neurotransmitters. Dopamine is used in everyday activities, and often the brain gives it as a reward. Coffee, smoking, working out, answering text messages, all these things use dopamine triggering. I’m thinking that pheromones could be triggering dopamine release, which leads to doing work and beating procrastination. Dopamine is also released when experiencing pleasure, or pain. (Note: correct me if any of this is wrong please.)
  2. Placebo. You want a result, and you watch for it patiently. Sometimes the result is not immediately obvious. Often the result with pheromones is something we create. The girl looks at you because you are walking confident and tall. You get a free coffee because you have a great smile on your face and you are supremely confident in yourself, etc. The brain wants to figure out the puzzle, and allows itself to do work. You equate this to the pheromone, but in fact it’s you, doing what you really want to do!!!
  3. Improved mood. Perhaps your mood has been improved by the pheromone. This good mood allows you to banish those tasks that had been bugging you. It changes your perspective on your current situation, a pick me up. Often times people drinking coffee have the same urge to do stuff. Not only the stimulating caffeine, but also the mood boost and dopamine release.

Does this seem right to you???

Good theories!

Its really hard to prove placebo here, we would need AD to send out some products with just Neroli to some of the people testing to really account for that.

I think that would make some unhappy customers though lol

Placebo effect is certainly possible, but IME unlikely simply bc half the time the self-fx I get are completely unexpected.
