Another thing that will put somebody in the friend zone?, the woman already having a boyfriend.
Now Tisha is right, you dating her sister, half sister, cousin, close friend…whatever, can put you in not only the friend zone but the off limits zone. If it was a short period a long time ago and never became too serious, that’s workable.
Now you ARE thinking along the right lines by considering her actions instead of her words. Yes she says her boyfriend is a jerk, and most guys normally take that as meaning they should be ridiculously super nice to show her how much better an alternative he’d be over the boyfriend. When the fact is that when a woman calls a guy a jerk..but is still with him what she’s actually saying is “it’s so infuriating that he knows how to push my buttons and I wish I could control myself around him but I just can’t help it.”
So, how do you attract this woman…be attractive…same advice I give almost every guy that’s asked a similar question here.
1.) Like Tisha said (she’s smart as hell ain’t she?), you gotta call her out on it when she vents to you about the BF. This is emotional tampon behavior and it’s counter productive.
Look at it like this, if she’s complaining about him when she’s with you, then even though she’s with you, she’s thinking about him…and, while she’s with you, she’s in a negative state. THEN after she’s vented and feels better for having got it off her chest she goes back to him minus the anger since YOU gave her a chance to cool off. You’re helping him out at your own expense.
2.) Be busy and unavailable, with no malice or conscious thoughts as such…she is still taking you for granted. You soooo do NOT want her to think of you as the guy she can call last minute on a friday or saturday night and be certain you’re home by the phone. Go out and meet people, especially women, and especially attractive women. You don’t have to sleep with them, but having a busy active social life and her seeing attractive women enjoying your company flips the preselection switch.
3.) But don’t be the chick friend guy. Think of the movie “I Love You Man”. That guy was far from gay, but he may as well have been because he had a knack for having lots of female friends and was a great boyfriend but didn’t have any guy friends really. This really does confuse some (most) women. So in working to expand your social circle find some guys you can hang with and occasionally exercise a friendly leadership position with. Join a Gym, find an amatuer sports team, take a martial art (MMA is ridiculously popular nowadays) etc. If you have certain particular likes you can form a group on meetup.com. You want to be able to become a leader of men in some way.
Another MAJOR switch is what Vin Dicarlo calls “having a grand vision”. This could be your lifelong career goal, the great thing you accomplish that you want to be known for, a charity that’s close to home whatever…but have a goal, be excited about it, include her in it. Let her help you with little favors that support your vision. This creates a sense of investment which strengthens attachment.
I’ll leave willingness to emote and protector of loved ones alone since I assume you already possess these qualities.
Now, back to investment…this is something of a date idea that I discovered totally by accident. If you would have asked me 6 months ago if it was a good idea I would have said no, but it turns out that it’s conditional upon the frame…Take her shopping with you for clothes, furniture, colognes etc.
Now as I said if you would have asked me 6 months ago if letting a woman you want, have a say in your wardrobe selection was a good idea I would have said “no, it’s too approval seeking”.
However, I discovered through personal experience that
A.) women love shopping as an activity/experience even when it’s not for them.
B.) when she’s choosing outfits for you, she’s thinking about you…your looks and personality.
C.) it almost has a Dom/sub dynamic as final approval is up to you, so she spends the day trying to pick something for you that you’ll like…based off what she likes.
D.) it’s multi sensory, visual for clothing, visual+tactile for furniture (does this sofa feel comfortable enough?), and olfactory, if you shop for colognes. This creates a memorable experience.
E.) As I stated earlier, investment plays a big part…the woman I did this with was just a friend. Attractive but not somebody I was interested in and I didn’t expect her to become interested. As it turns out however…by helping me choose some clothes and furniture for my apartment…It seems she started thinking something akin to "I’m doing all of this and some other woman is going to enjoy the results.
The main key is she can’t think you’re doing it to impress her, but to impress women in general…OTHER women. This hits a jealous nerve like you would not believe.
By her picking clothes that would look good on you, she’s thinking about you in a “good looking” way, by helping choose furniture she’s thinking of your place in a way that would feel comfortable and “like home” to her. You’re basically letting her take part in making you into the kind of guy she wants but done from a nonapproval seeking angle…in a way that feels like she’s serving you instead of the reverse and in a way that can make her feel like some other woman will reap the rewards of her work.
I was blown away when my female friend told me she was upset that “I’d be fucking some slut from a club on the bed she helped me pick out”. So yeah, depending on how you frame it…shopping can be a HUGE attraction building tactic.
