So this is my first REAL job.
I’ve had it for almost a month now.
There are lots of issues with it…like not following health code, or not paying minimum wage, or not dividing the pooled tips evenly, or…
Yeah. Lots of issues.
I work for a Korean-run Japanese restaurant (Yeah go ahead and try to figure THAT one out).
They hire mainly Koreans and a couple of “cute” white girls.
I’m a halfie. Not a “real” asian.
Anyway, for my interview it was this:
“Hello.”
“Hello!”
“When are you free to work?”
“Blah blah blah”
“Okay. So, I see you smile at me and I think you will make customer happy. You start training Monday”.
Okay…so I’ve been training for nearly a month now.
All the other trainees (aside from one other white girl) have taken the “server” test and now get tips.
The other trainees worked 2 days out of the week and after 2 weeks they’re full servers. I work 5 days a week! It’s been almost a month.
Are you kidding me? And every time I work and they Korean workers come in, the boss or manager says to give them a free ice cream or chef sushi. I’ve come in several times…nothing.
On work, we get employee meals. We can choose from a handful of items, but not everything. Whenever other people ask the manager “can I try this tonight” he’s like “Oh, sure!”
I tried asking: “Umm…I’m not working it today and the sushi makers back there won’t make it for you- blah blah blah I’m just trying to come up with an excuse even though I’d tell the sushi makers to make it for you if you were Korean like So-and-so”
I mean, it’s not about the free stuff. It’s about the blatant favoritism of Koreans.
I get blamed for everything that goes wrong, even when I’m covering every one else’s jobs while they slack off.
My co-workers go home with almost $100 bucks each night. Me? $37. They tried to pay me the wrong amount of hours and wrong pay. My Korean co-worker told me “Oh well, you don’t really work here so it doesn’t matter what they pay you”. WTF?
Although I’m still a “trainee” they have me scheduled just like a regular server. I have my own section to wait on and bus, and no one helps me.
Today (like last week) I worked with one server. A Sunday lunch shift with one server and one “trainee”?
WTF.
We had two reservations of 15+ people plus the rest of the restaurant. I took a 15 people party by myself. The gratuity for that ONE table was more than I make in a day…and it ALL GOES TO THE OTHER SERVER.
Today, someone didn’t take the FAX order to the chefs
I ordered my employee meal togo since I was already past my working shift and still working.
The Fax ordered the same meal as me plus a sushi, so I said “Here, take mine. I’ll just order another”.
Instead of “Thank you” I got reprimanded by the manager saying that I’m not allowed to order my employee meal to go unless we’re really busy.
WTF? We WERE really busy! The manager had to help us by taking a section during the reservation time.
I just don’t understand why I keep getting yelled at when I’m working my ass off covering for everyone else.
I’m tired, I want to quit, and I’m done being treated poorly.
