Okay, so I just finished reading Why We Love, which I received compliments of Androtics after my most recent order (YES! THEY ROCK!). In the past I’ve read some other articles, and I’ve looked at sections of The Alchemy of Love and Lust online (book is on order).
The theses of these books (and others like it) is that the physical feelings of love and attraction such as racing of the heart, sweaty palms, longing that you can actually feel, inability to keep someone off your mind, etc. (you all know what it feels like, I imagine) are caused by a combination of various hormones rushing through your body.
The most prominent of these seem to be dopamine, norepinephrine, and phenylethylamine (PEA), all of which serve a different function in the physiology of love. There’s also oxytocin, vasopressin, and more.
Considering that pheromones work on those exposed to it to guide them into particular moods or attitudes toward the wearer (or even in general), they must be triggering the brain to produce the hormones listed above, as well as other related ones. I mean, that’s gotta be what they’re doing.
Now I’m sure I’m not the first to suggest this (actually it’s mentioned in general in Alchemy), but I wonder if any specific products have been tested along with measurements of related hormone production. If we can figure out which pheromones are more prone to trigger the production of which hormones, we could make them that much more effective.
For instance, TUTH and other -none based formulae, if they do what they are intended to, I would bet my hat that they trigger the production of testosterone in both men and women. Those that cause DIHL might be raising levels of PEA, and calming agents may be affecting oxytocin.
Whadday’all think?
