Let's get controversial! PUAs!

All right, so a couple weeks ago, I said I had a lot of things to say. I wrote a bit, and was amazed at the response.

So let’s see what happens now. Let’s spice it up a bit.

PUAs, ladies!!! Your thoughts and feelings!

As for me, I’ve read up on the techniques, watched the youtube videos (from Gem, I think?), seen a couple in action (but not very good ones, hah! Their peacocking was fun, though.) and to me, I’m completely fascinated by them. They’re like an alien species I want to observe and write research papers on.

Let’s lay it out there – I’m a virgin. I haven’t even kissed a boy in 22 months (Oh, believe me, I’m counting the days, too. Kisses on the cheek don’t count either). I can’t do the casual thing. Dance, yes, talk and have fun, yes, but nothing past that.

So when guys try to pick me up, it doesn’t work. It’s just not what I’m looking for. We have fun, we talk, we dance, it’s all good. And then when it’s time to go, I say good night. I’ve given my number out a few times, but that’s been about it.

Now knowing a female PUA, it’s a little strange. She was basically a vigilante for all the women used by assholes, as she had been. She became walking karma, seeking those who needed to pay. This of course caused complications as she then entered the cycle for herself, and quite possibly just solidified the theories those boys already had.

I’ve been negged before, and it didn’t have the desired effect.

“You have fantastic… toes.”
“Um. Thank you?”

Anybody else have thoughts? Any funny PUA stories?

I like stealing all their techniques and throwing them back at them. It’s so much fun!

PUAs are people. There’s good people and bad people. The bad ones make themselves super evident. The good ones I’ve met, I love them. (As a person, not a PUA. Their being a PUA gives me a thousand reasons to make fun of and with them )

I dig that a lot of PUAs are into self-improvement. I dig anyone who’s into self improvement. If they’re self improving ONLY to chase tail, well, super! (At least they have endless motivation, s there are a few billion “targets” they haven’t acquired)

They might grow out of that sometime and see that “Holy cow, I’ve got the wits of a superhero and can get any gal I like… and I’m happy!”

Some of the bad ones, women can tell right away. When I was hanging with the Annihilation method crew, the dowdiest looking guys slung an infinite repertoire of negs at me, and at the end of all that bashing, I kind of looked at them puzzled and said, “Man, you don’t get it. You really missed out on the opportunity to know an awesome individual.” And I turned my back and sauntered away with a posse of the well dressed, more graceful pack of fun & cute PUAs. I hope he re-evaluated his game after that?

Aren’t they??? Let’s do it! Let’s hop into lab coats and take measurements and do a bunch of sciencey stuff to document the strange anthropology of pick up artists!

Ahh..

Where to start here?

Well Saraunne.. having lost a total of 56 (count them) rep points over a period of 3 days, in a thread entitled “Approach Invitations” and several others, my views on this issue are legendary on these forums, but this time..I am keeping mum.

It wouldn’t be hard to resurrect these appalling threads, but there seems little point, and the Numpties who subscribe to the idea that “Game” works on a worldwide basis are simply NOT interested in hearing otherwise.

I stand by my view that if ANY guy or gal tried even ONE of these ridiculous false, posturing, manipulative techniques ever in Scotland, (I even posted proof of my theories at the time) they would be the very worthy recipient of a “Glesgae Kiss.”

Just a word to the wise..that is NOT something ANYONE wants to be on the receiving end of, as a quick Google will show…

The Scots are by nature, extremely WYSIWYG people, and we hate fake. It makes bile brew inside us…

And so..that’s that from me, and I am back to observing from the sanctity of my room - shown in my Profile.

This as they say, should be VERY interesting, but just for once, Ail will NOT be the woman who fires the cannonballs others merely make..

I had enough of that.

Ail

Jasmin – HAH! I wish I could have seen the look on one of those guys’s faces.

Ail – perfectly understandable. And I did google the glesgae kiss, and started to laugh. Certainly don’t want to be kissed like that!

Interesting thread…

I have said numerous times that 99% of my friends are sex-deprived young men whose hormones often taint their speech, but they rarely manage to offend me. Because I know they’re not TRYING anything. As soon as a guy tries to put any moves on me (any guy besides my own, that is!) I might find it amusing at first but it very quickly grows old - I have a history of phasing out friends who went about an attraction to me in a sex-oriented, PUA-reminiscent manner. Maybe I’m good at reading people, or just at taking care of myself, but I can tell a PUA from a mile away, and not only am I not the type to respond to a PUA, but I would go so far as to say I’m offended by them.

Saraunne, I’m the same way in regards to guys trying to pick me up. While not a virgin, I certainly don’t go out looking for a one-night-stand, which as I understand it is the motivation of a lot of, if not most, PUAs. The ones I’ve dealt with, anyway. I’m a friendly person, but I don’t think I have EVER given out my number. If I really liked a guy I would ask for his e-mail address. I am never interested in someone for purely romantic intent, as I prefer to develop a friendship first, and for some reason asking for or giving a phone number carries too much of a sexual connotation for me. I consider myself too nice a girl. :stuck_out_tongue:

Dear Saraunne,

It sounds as if you have a very healthy attitude.

There exist well-developed techniques for influencing behavior. They’re used in advertising all the time. Whenever I get a sudden urge to buy something I try to give myself a little time to cool off, and also to reflect on what caused the urge. Sometimes it’s not to hard to pick out techniques that go by names like suggestion, hypnosis, or NLP.

Some PUAs use similar techniques to influence behavior. They are effective, at least on some people. On the other hand, Jasmine’s right, the PUAs are people too. A lady like yourself, dispasionately analysizing their technique, is less likely to be carried away than someone completely in the dark.

The heart can either show the truth, or lead one into deception. You just have to ask it the right questions.

Some women, by their fantasies, leave themselves open to the PUA. If a lady has a vision of a knight in shining armor gleaned from romance novels, she is vulnerable to an insincere con-man who has practiced imitating the fantasy, and perhaps oblivious to more sincere people with whom she is more compatible.

I’ve had talks about these techniques with my daughter, and warned her about the need for self-examination if she feels uncommonly comfortable with a person in a short time.

Peace be with you.

Hello Girls…

1st off - Jasmin, you are a bad bad lady! I have no doubt you rip PUAs to pieces

I have never forgotten this quote and I can guarantee you that this type of behavior would destroy all but the very best PUAs.

2ndly, here is an apology to Ail and a ‘you were right’ - feel free to hit me with an ‘I told you so’

I, for the first time in about a year…got dumped down to ground HARD
on Saturday by a woman who was NOT impressed by my best PUA skills.
I truly did not believe it could happen.

I sat down opposite her at a table in a club and started talking…I don’t know how she did it but she crashed my frame. She called me on every lie I told and did a really really scarily accurate cold read on me that started ‘you think you are a ladies man’. LMAO. She destroyed me, seriously. She was 36, gorgeous and super super smart. - So I hold my hand up, game doesn’t work on everyone, or at last mine doesn’t:o:o

On that note though…

I am actually coming up to Glasgow as a guest instructor to lead a bootcamp for Scot Lair on the 21st of next month…

I hope there will be plenty of Glasgee Kisses lined up for me :open_mouth::open_mouth::open_mouth:

Gem..I would NEVER say “I told you so..”

I told you that you are fighting against what you really believe and that I know that you are now at the stage of wanting that one woman, and I told you you will NEVER make that a reality unless you alter the way your mindset is.

I have seen it WILL happen though. You should be very careful to NOT take the opposite path, as both will be presented to you as opportunities, within a 12 week-slot.

Be sure the path you take is going to be very important to your life development from now on.

I hope you make the right choice, not the one that SEEMS right.

Someone called John needs some guidance from you? Just something that comes up. Make sure it is YOU who advises him. and not “GEM..”

Blessings.

Ail )O(

I’m much like you saraunne - not looking for sex. I’m no virgin (heh not by a long shot :stuck_out_tongue:) but i was on a 6 year abstinence streak, jsut because I needed it. The funny thing is i threw myself into dens of wolves over and over again, for the hell of it, through that streak.

In any case, I’m not sure if i ran across a PUA, that i would recognize him. I do know this tho - I grew up in NYC, and game is just natural, in that atmosphere, so I’m not entirely sure i would be conned. Actually I know i wouldn’t be, unless he was willing to put some serious time into it.

I could prolly be seduced in the old-fashioned sense of the term tho.

as for PUAs as people? as I said, i’m a New Yorker - every guy is on a hustle - I don’t fault them for doing their thing.

I find it funny on soem other boards i frequent, that I’ve seen great funny guys evolve into soem false cocky-funny persona. It disappoints me to see them trying to manufacture stories, and stop seeing women as people, but if it gets them play, there’s not much i can say to stop them, i guess.

Oh, I don’t agree with that at all. I would never ask for a phone number, but giving it out, in my opinion, invites a date, not sex. I mean, sex may be all he’s after, but you’ll find that out on the phone and you can then decline. If he asks you out, go with him and make it clear he won’t be coming upstairs on the first date. Of course, you may have found the love of your life already, so none of these ideas may be relevant to you, you lucky girl.

I don’t know if this qualifies as a funny PUA story, but it is funny.

A few years ago, when we first moved into our new office building, I had to let a phone tech into the utility closet on our floor. Since we had quite a few critical electronics in the closet, I had to stay while he worked. I was feeling pretty impatient since it was an un-scheduled appointment, I had piles of work waitng for me, etc. At the end of the appointment, he thanked me for waiting, and he asked for my card so that he could give me advance notice next time he had to come out and work on our floor.

I gave him my business card and thought nothing more of it. . .until he called a day later. I thought it was a business call. After some inconsequential chit-chat (my city has a small southern town vibe, it can be considered rude to get right to business without a few comments on the weather, the traffic or the local college team) he drawled out,

“You seem like a nice gurl. . . wanna go out an’ drink 'til we stink?”

I was stunned into silence, so he continued on with where we could drink, and what we could drink. And further activities, should I drink to the point of what I can only assume would be insensibility on a first date.

After a moment, I collected myself enough to decline. Politely, but only barely.

Years later (9), I still wonder why he thought that would work. . .it boggles the mind. . .had he had success with that line before? Had there been women in the past, who said, “Sure! That’s sounds like fun! You’re not scary at all, phone guy! Pick me up Friday at 7!”

Or worse, did something about my persona give off the vibe that I would like to drink until I smell?

Of course, I immediately called my best girlfriend to have a laugh about it. She still brings it up after all these years.

I wouldn’t say the guy had any game at all, but he was forthcoming about his objective.

I tend to be more of the designated wingman when I go out, so I don’t have a lot of PUA experience (going out with the girls this weekend, so I’m looking forward to how that goes with my full pheromone arsenal.) It’s usually me and the guy’s wingman rolling our eyes at the antics of our friends. But when I have been approached, it has been my experience that they are either so obvious that it’s fairly clownish and amusing, or I got that creepy, shuddery feeling that you get when someone just doesn’t add up. .

A new toast “May you receive kisses, but never from Glesgae” or some other such nonsense. I just Googled it as well, and I never hope to be on the receiving end.

 Aww.. This just may be the case. However!

I know when someone wants a phone number for a reason other than sex. I mean, it’s one of those things that seem fairly obvious to me. But I’ve never gotten that “Hey, you’re pretty cool, let’s chat sometime” vibe from someone in a club or bar sort of atmosphere. Wish I did though, I’d have a wider variety of friends!

Haha … see, these are the guys I get! My friends joke about it too - “You always get the weirdo stalkers.” Of course, they say stalkers because I have had several men in the past wait online for me all day, catch wind of my presence at an event and show up to look for me… it may seem cute at first but good lord, it’s pretty creepy.

How about this for a pick up story?

Someone calls my cell phone. He is from my town.

“I found your number on the back of a ‘Pawn It’ business card and was wondering if I knew you.”

“Uh… nope!”

Some more little strange chit-chat, and we hang up.

A week later I listen to my messages and get this:

“Heeey, this is that guy. If you’re ever interested in getting your fingernails painted and your hair corn-rowed–if you’re not too fat–give me a call!”

This is a direct quote. Needless to say, I did not call back.

What the blazes?!

shudder

Alseides, I’d imagine that would get mighty creepy after awhile. I certainly didn’t mean to be condescending…I guess I tend to have better luck with gentlemen who ask for my number, though.

No no, I didn’t take it as such. One would wonder what I’ve got to be doing, though, to attract such attention. :open_mouth:

Ha ha, I’ve had people call me and ask who I was, too, Saraunne - never got any messages like THAT though. :stuck_out_tongue:

I had always heard it called a “Liverpool Kiss” never a “Glesgae Kiss.”

I’ve been known to refer to some of the strange ones as “Ivan of the MIssing Chromosomes.” And I’m a quirky girl, so if it’s frightening to me, you can only imagine. .

According to some sources, it was called a “Liverpool Kiss” before there was a “Glesgae Kiss.”
