Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus is a great book. Easy to understand. Very informative. The books explains the root of ALL problems in my house and family. I almost flew a gold bar made of cheese called “crazy crab cat” to the moon to tell you how good the book is! (The expression i just said doesn’t make sense to demonstrate how much i like the simplicity and information of the book so i invented an expression!)
Funny how today, i saw my mother methodically do EVERYTHING women shouldn’t do to men with my father, brother and I about 20 times each. The book was good in the way that at least i understand that my mother doesn’t piss us off on purpose, she doesn’t realize it hurts us. I now know how women like to be treated . A GREAT book. I hope my mother will read it to understand why she is pissing off all of us except my sister that doesn’t live with us anymore.
You know that he’s not a real doctor right? He got his diploma from one of those diploma mill universities that got shut down iirc. Check out wikipedia.
That “book” is on a par with “The Rules” for being the worst, most inaccurate pile of codswallop, EVER written
Do yourself a favour. Take NONE of that gumff as read.
..otherwise, when it DOES come time for you to think about settling down if you ever want to - you may as well look forward to a very long, lonely life of self-satisfaction..
I’ve read it, and agree it’s a good basic introduction to sex-based differences in communication styles. I prefer linguist (PhD UC Berkeley) Deborah Tannen’s books on the same subject (for example, You Just Don’t Understand) and they are just as approachable for the general audience.
LOL, Ail - I wrote something twice as long and rather bitchy about Gray and deleted it; didn’t want to rain on the parade. But yeah, Gray seriously annoys me, to tell you the truth (gotta hand it to him for money-making savvy, though).
…not that this has any relavance to the thread…but it does highlight some major differences between men and women…in a comical light. ok not really. but its funny
David Deida’s work is not purely about communication, but he does address differences between the sexes. It seems intriguing from what I have read, though I have yet to make much headway. (Whole stack of books just arrived).
Thanks for the info dudes and dudettes. I’m always reading and i’m new to this “how to treat people” way of thinking. I have always been good, but in Québec, i have difficulties, Québec people are, well, hrrrmmmm, unimaginative and, hrmmmm, sloowwwwwww and girls here are WAYYYY different than american and canadian girls (because québec is considered a nation even though it’s a province in canada), québec wants to separate from Canada, it’s been like that since i was born, for about 200 years we want to make our own country. People here are about 6 years behind the rest of the world in social interactions, styles, lolz and jokes, very annoying if you ask me.
Can anyone suggest a few books on guys and girls. I’m uninterested in fuck friends, i want something real, so i need to learn a little, just something to get me on the right path.
Well Thomas, I agree with you basically (sorry Ail). I found his book series interesting. I’ve tried checking out all he has done. I think he does have some good points. He also has some silly points too, but then again what works for some is not for others. Same goes for “The Rules.” I look them over, take what soulds interesting, try it out, and see what happens. Or at least I become familiar with what someone else might be trying. I do the same with the PUA/MM/Deangelo/etc stuff.
The main thing is it all forms a basic pool of information. Some works for me, some doesn’t. Some I like, some I don’t. I almost always come away with at least one tidbit from everything I’ve read that I can use in some manner. It might be something I want to use, or it could be something I know I don’t want to use. For example, I feel the stuff in “Bishop’s Journal” to be hightly manipulative and dishonest if not bordering on “getting tarred and feathered and ridden out of town on a rail sinful.” I make it a point to avoid doing what he does. It’s all part of the education.
I have read two of the John Gray books. One was highly recommended to me by a friend so I decided to give it a shot. I think some of the information in there is worthwhile. Men do seem to have a period when they “go in their cave” and pushing and badgering them won’t make them happier to emerge and women do seem to go “into a well” when their resources have been sapped and they need time to re-energize.
However, I see why many could disparage these books. Do they strive to make us any better as a species, where sex-based differences erase as we become more uniformly human? Or then would we have no more use for pheromones?
