misc skin care product recommendations

What general products do you all use? It could be anything, I just want to know what stuff you use that you absolutely must have/rave about, and why.

My latest rave is a product I wouldn’t normally even entertain the thought of trying due to the price. Unless a product comes extremely highly rated by people I trust and there is science backing it up, I generally will not spend an ungodly amount for something. I gave in and splurged on Your Best Face Correct, though, which is $150.

I’ve got very good skin and I don’t tan. I’m constantly carded for 18+ events. Even still, I’m starting to get tiny feather-like crows feet, and the crepeyness under my eyes (which I’ve always had) seems to be slightly worse than in years past. I read a ton of good stuff about this and took the plunge. I’ve been using it for two weeks, and sure enough the skin under my eyes is better than I’ve ever noticed it to be, and the fine feathery lines are… gone.

Give me recs on everything!

Neutrogena Active Copper Day - it firmed and evened my skin texture and tone. Love it. The night version not so much.

Do you put anything on your face along with it? Eg, moisturizer, makeup, etc? I use Skin Biology’s CP serum, and you have to wait at least 20 minutes before putting anything on top of it, so CP serum + YBF Correct + moisturizing oil + makeup makes for a long morning.

Philosophy’s Makeup Optional set is great. Creme de la Mer’s The Concentrate is one of my faves (used as serum) but also ridiculously expensive

Well lets see… I am older then you ariadne so I gotta work harder at it

First I never ever go out without at least SPF 15 sunscreen on my face. If I am going to the beach or no I will be in the sun I use Eucerin SPF 30, the one they make specifically for the face, which I always have in my purse. I can thank my Aunts for this. They are sun worshipers and always have laid out near the pool or on the beach all summer and well … it looks like I am related to the California raisins. When we were kids my sister and I were terrified and started looking into how to prevent this from happening to us. LOL

I wash my face twice a day, no fail. Never ever sleep with makeup or daily pollutants on your face.

Lack of water is a big problem for skin. Make sure you drink a lot of it.

I don’t lean toward expensive skin care either but my sister does. She is the queen of infomercial products and any up coming and new treatments for just about anything so I always check with her to see what works. I tend to go the natural route and have a lot of “beauty potions” I make up from all natural ingredients to use on my skin.

But when it comes to store bought I normally use Noxema to remove makeup and dirt and exfoliate a few times a week with Garnier nurti pure micro bead scrub which is my new favorite right now. I love Green Creamfor fine lines and use Collagen Hydrator By PCA to moisturize.

Oh my favorite online site for skin care shopping is the one I linked above to green cream and of course bliss. You can get a lot of free samples to try products out at Derm store when you make a order which I love.

Oh and I almost forgot… Pure luxe cosmetics makes a product called the eraser which you use before or after applying make up or just on its own that is totally amazing. It doesn’t get rid of lines it just sort of makes them not as noticeable. I get a lot of my make up there and they sell sample sizes which are huge for the mineral make up and eye shadow. Its just $1 per sample and they come in a hard little container instead of a tiny baggy like some make up places sell. Love this store they have the best eye make up colors ever.

Tisha

Tisha, is The Eraser like a foundation primer? I’ve been looking for a replacement to Smashbox’s primer. I love it, but the packaging is terrible. It’s almost impossible to get the last 1/4 of it out.

I’ll have to get some samples from Pure Luxe. I’ve been a mineral makeup convert for about a year since I discovered Aromaleigh (I never cared for how Bare Escentuals’ minerals looked on my skin), but they are one of the ones that send out samples in baggies. Minor irritation, but it does make it harder to use them.

I also use sunscreen every day. I use DHC’s tinted sunscreen on top of my primer and under my mineral foundation.

DHC’s Deep Cleansing Oil is a godsend for removing makeup without making your skin feel tight and dry.

Would you say it was worth the 150???

Skin products don’t have to be expensive, Dr. Oz says. “Most of the products we recommend are $10 or $12. Don’t go for the marketing blitz,” he says. “If there’s retin in it, it has a vitamin A compound that we like. ‘Ascorbic acid’ is the word for vitamin C, and ‘tocopherol’ is the word for vitamin E. Those are the key ingredients to nourish your skin.”

To ensure healthy skin, Dr. Oz says you need to eat right. “Avocados, soybeans and nuts all contain biotin, an essential vitamin for healthy skin,” he says. “A lack of biotin has been known to cause dermatitis—swollen, itchy or extremely dry skin.”

Add salmon for skin elasticity, pomegranates to help produce more collagen and keep the skin looking young, and plenty of tomatoes. “Studies have shown that lycopene in tomatoes can protect your skin from aging by preventing sunburns,” Dr. Oz says. "The most important thing with tomatoes is to make sure they’re with oil. If you heat them up and mix them with oil, that’s called pasta sauce.

I think everybody responds differently to whatever products you are using, but diet is pretty much universal. Eating healthy is definitely the first step.

So far, yes. Like I said, in just a couple of weeks it has eliminated things that I thought were problems, one of which had been there all my life. It incorporates some pretty cutting edge chemical formulations, so I expect that’s why it’s $150.

I’ll probably buy it again, and cut down on usage. I started with the recommended amount to see if it worked as others have reported. Now that I see that it does, I feel that once this bottle is done, I could move to once a day and/or every other day instead of twice a day every day. I didn’t need dramatic effects except for proof.

As far as eating right, I’m probably the most eatingest-right human I know. I’m extremely picky about what I eat. I tend to only eat organic or free range/Amish meats when available, I don’t eat processed foods or consume a lot of sugar, I eat grains like quinoa and teff instead of breads, I drink either water or rooibos, never sodas, never alcohol.

I checked out that “Luxe” link that Tisha posted earlier, and they have some pretty neat-looking products. And I love the fact you can order samples, of anything! (Oh no, not another place I’ll need to spend money at!!!) Thanks alot Tisha

Its a moisturizer with copper peptides in it. Kills two birds with one stone. Very good moisturizer. Like I said, I love it. I would put it on after showering, then apply mineral makeup about 5 minutes later.

And my understanding is that male and female skin (and underlying fat layer) is different, so products designed for one are not the best for the other. I think I have heard that female skin is thinner overall. Not sure about facial skin however.

Age has a lot to do with it to. Both sexes lose a lot of skin elasticity as they get older.

I notice this thread is in the Lounge area so it’s not necessarily sex specific (the way it’s titled). I’d sure like to hear from other males what they may have found in terms of skin and facial care products. There are danged few such products (and rarely if ever on sale…)
:frowning:

Yep, I hoped everyone would contribute regarding their favorite products!

A good place I found, Rbt, is Truth in Aging, which reviews a lot of different skin care products for men and women. That is where I initially found out about the Your Best Face Correct. Worth a read.

No kidding, Sillykitty! I already spend an ungodly amount at Aromaleigh, and I can see I’ll be doing the same at Pure Luxe. I have to try The Eraser!

I did not look at Aromaleigh…I’m scared to…

Oh man, yeah. No. Run. :stuck_out_tongue:

I basically love everything I’ve tried at Aromaleigh.

STOP that, Ariadne!! Now you’re making it even WORSE…

Yes the eraser is like a primer bit it also diffuses light and makes wrinkles and imperfections less noticible. Its like silk when you apply it. I love it.

Snort, Just get the $1 samples. They are really big. I rarely get the full size unless I really love a color. Oh and check out the color changing eye shadows. They are so cool. I do suggest you get a good application brush from them. I bought the dual sided one.

Tisha

Okay, how many new addictions can a girl take on is such a short amount of time, lol???

And I’m trying so hard to be good, but that’ll never happen as long as I’m alive

Biotherme Homme…

Oh wait - I guess the ladies products would be better formulated for you.

If the ladies versions are anywhere near as good as the men’s version I highly suggest trying it out - my only problem is that everything they have comes scented… but luckily their scents are absolutely delicious

I just bought a king’s ransom in samples from Pure Luxe.

Dangit Tisha! :open_mouth:
