I’m applying for a loan to start up my business soon, I have my business plan refined, it’s perfect I think.
I need help with my first impression! I have a fair idea of what I’m going to go for.
I was thinking red shirt (Power and authority)
Baby Blue tie (calm, my eye color)
Black trousers & black shoes
A little a314 and IShine and all the power body language
Not sure about the red shirt, as a businessman, the bank manager may want to see something a little more conservative. Hey, it’s your pitch and your call. As long as its congruent, you’ll be fine, good luck
It’s hard to say man… red is a good color but it can be dramatic - if the person you are talking to is conservative it might scare him.
The contrast with the tie makes for a sharp look - but if it’s a solid tie you are making a big impression - It is very in your face which will either work well or poorly.
I don’t like Black trousers with a Red Shirt and Baby Blue tie because the Baby blue tie only really works super well with a red on the brighter side of the scale - a bright red matched with BLACK pants creates a line across your body - This can confuse the eye a little bit..
If you have a black sports jacket that matches the pants then the outfit comes together because the black on the top AND bottom will tone down the overall look - In my opinion this look would have to fit impeccably or it will feel cheap.
If red is a color that works really well for you I would use it in a tie or if you REALLY want to wear a red shirt go with a lighter pair of slacks (something grey). If you have a pair of grey slacks that are on the lighter side (not charcoal - it’s too much like black) the solid baby blue tie wouldn’t be half bad and black shoes look great with grey slacks. EDIT: On second thought Charcoal grey might actually work well here if the red is bright… if the charcoal has blue tones in it to match the tie
I find a safer color that still pushes the powerful envelope - and works well if RED is a good color on you - is to go with a purple (not royal - think pastel mauve) but once again I don’t like mauve on top with black slacks unless you have a jacket… mauve works pretty decent with charcoal grey slacks but doesn’t fit well with the bably blue tie
The biggest thing that I DON’T like about Bright Red + Baby Blue + Black Slacks is that the three solid colors will basically split your body into 3 pieces visually
A darker blue tie with some red accents would work better with your initial suggestion because it will match the shirt (not split you in two) with the red accents and the darker blue would be happy with the black slacks - I’m going to be honest, I’m really not a fan of black slacks…
I agree with pretty much everything Wrlprchnx suggested and I agree with both him and diamond when they say the red might be too bold for a conservative banker. I think it really depends on what ‘red’ you are planning on, and what texture/weave it has. I would not wear a ‘shiny red’ shirt (like prom night), but a matte shirt might look dead with the wrong shade of red.
Maybe it would be more appropriate to display wisdom, or intelligence, rather than power and authority? Who would you rather loan money to? Think darker greens, with darker tans? Earth shades if you will.
I’m a fan of burgundy, but it really depends on the shade and weave.
I wouldn’t go with a straight black and white set up either, as that is too contrasted, not to mention a bit plain.
Grey slacks would be a good idea with any color really, as grey doesn’t contrast as much as black, it softens your look and pulls it together more than separating as black does.
Whatever your tie choice is, I would suggest that it shares tones with both your slacks and shirt. But that’s just me…
Either way, I’m sure the pheromones and your careful wardrobe choice will help, but your best bet is having a bullet proof business plan – or rather, one that looks bullet proof as I don’t believe any business plan survives first contact with reality.
gerald, stop…hammer time
do not wear what you said.
First, your tie has to be darker than your blue shirt, that you are going to wear. Next is clean facial hair, then some nice leather shoes.
Wear some dark hue’s in the blue and shit…the tie can have accent’s
of colors if needed. what is your business.
