I know we’re not supposed to post our personal stuff on here (Even though Google doesn’t seem to be able to find this hidden forum!), but this is a link to my Soundcloud page.

I pretty much write anything. The hours I stand in work, I can have a track done and dusted in my head by the time I go to leave for home. Really doesn’t take long to recreate it once I get onto the PC; and surprising, it sounds pretty darn close from what I create in my head. I might do a few tweaks, add fx, etc, but rarely not much more. Unless of course there’s vocals, then it’s a case of getting one of a few to record them. That can take time, but thankfully the internet comes to our aid in sending the files back and forth.
I use Image Line’s FL Studio, have done since version 3, we’re now on version 12.4, lol, but they give free lifetime updates and it’s probably the best DAW I’ve come to use. That coupled with REFX Nexus 2 and the song creations are limitless. I’ve been producing music since January 2000, so we’re looking at almost 17 years, lol, sure doesn’t feel that long!!
I do everything from instrumental to full on vocal tracks; and because I’ve met some very good musicians/vocalists along the way, I’m never short of someone wanting to remix or sing on one of my tracks, which also inspires me to keep on going.
I’ve released music on record labels here in the UK, had it played on TV and radio (no #1’s yet though, I’m not that famous, yet, hehe!); and currently release on my own label. Might sound nuts releasing on your own, but then I get 100% royalties back from what I sell/stream, instead of a % going to the label, a % going to the management, etc, nope everything comes to me, as I do everything for myself. Albeit, there’s usually a 2-6 month delay from certain stores, Apple and Spotify being the only ones to send everything monthly. I learnt the hard way, like many a vocalist/producer has over the years, people do make promises, then in an instant they break them and take off with your hard earned cash. So now I do everything for myself, with the exception of the distribution company, but I pay them peanuts every year to submit and track my sales to/from stores; and they make the whole process a breeze compared to previous years of relying on other people/companies.
I get a real buzz, a sense of achievement, when I finish off a new song. I have endless ideas running through my head all the time, think my work colleagues think I’m nuts most of the time, as I’m usually singing (quietly to myself), or playing out a keyboard sequence on a surface (any surface, even in the air, lol), whilst working. We have cameras everywhere with monitors dotted around too, so at times, it must be a weird sight for them to see, lol.
I started out producing House and R’n’B, which moved quickly on to dance, trance and techno. After watching the movie “Fast & The Furious - Tokyo Drift,” I saw a strange dance called Para Para; and went on the hunt to find out what it was. That led me to a UK website were people all did the same dance moves to Euro dance, Trance and Techno music; and it sent me down a different route, as I created music for the Japanese dance scene. When that craze seemed to die down, I moved into producing Electro House, kind of a break from the fast pace that I had been creating. That seemed to die off as well; and we entered the new genre of EDM, and boy does that cover a lot of genres!! But for the past 4 years, that’s the area I’ve been looking at. I have a great passion for Hardstyle, I think I got that from working in Germany and visiting the ‘Techno Festival’ in Berlin. They had Scooter on; and I just got hooked, lol.
I do occasionally write/produce tracks about people. I kind of use it as a form of communication, but I don’t think they ever get it themselves, probably should just throw on A314 and IShine/IO and tell them, lol, but I guess not many people have songs written to them, about them, or for them. Occasionally, I do get people asking me to write a track for them. Call me a sucker, but I tend to feel obliged to do so. That’s when you think to yourself, “Jeez, I hope this is what they wanted?!”
Have to say though, since I produced ‘X’s’ track in August; and nope she didn’t know about it, maybe I should of told her, I’ve not really been able to concentrate on any new material. Every time I go to start something new, in pops that song, the EDM version anyhow, because the original track is slower, totally different, more along the lines of a radio edit. Not to mention, it’s been getting played everywhere according to the Soundcloud/Distro Company stats. From clubs in Brisbane to cafe bars in Paris to well, Ashburn VA. I have no idea where that is in the States, but who ever it is they play a lot of my tracks on a weekly basis; and have done for months!! I have that track on both my iPod and iPad, I guess if she asks me to/wants me to, I’ll play it at the apartment in a couple of weeks time, but I won’t just throw it on, don’t want to embarrass her, last thing I would want to do, especially in front of everyone!!
I guess that’s one of the reasons I started sharing my music, because it wasn’t until 2002 that I shared my 1st two tracks. I was working for the Software Company Empire Interactive at the time for their eJay music brand, as well as overseeing their UK forums as a moderator - 9 hours a day, 7-days a week of answering support questions, to joining in with music related topics, to removing copyrighted material uploaded by kids thinking it was their personal jukebox. But, it was fun, they encouraged me to share my music having never heard it. They knew I made it; and no sooner than I did, well, my passion for making more just took off!
I guess, the same thing can be said for here, being a member of the Research team, trying out the products, reporting the results and having fun in the process. My passion for music and my passion for researching are pretty much equal. I love coming here, it’s like my safe place to be; and everyone is so welcoming, don’t think I have ever said anything bad about anyone here, everyone is just so helpful, friendly and kind; and that’s a great deal when it comes to research. As I have said in other posts, I’ve done research elsewhere; and the difference is quite big. You just read data, test it out (if you can), write up findings, report it back; and then continue on. No friendliness, no forums, nothing, just hard work; and that’s the big difference with AD’s research. Here, we’re one big community of friends; and that’s why I keep coming back!
