NBully thought it would be a good idea to ask everyone’s opinion on having a section just for journals. This would NOT be a password-protected section. Everybody would be able to read and post questions just like other parts of this forum.
Advantages:
If you find someone who gets similar phero-results, its easier to read about their experiences
Easier to search than having separate blog sites
Makes it easier for Jasmin to determine whether someones ready for advanced user status
Makes the progression from beginner to experienced user obvious when new people join the forum.
Not much change to the feel of the forum
Might make it easier to find content like the Wisdom of Tacitus in one place
Somebody else should post the disadvantages since im in favor of this idea.
I used to post a lot on bodybuilding.com and they had a section just for logs. They would log different supplements to show the rest of the community if they worked or not. Or diets or training programs, etc. It made finding logs/reviews so much easier. Often they would give a final review of the product when they were done.
I also think it would actually encourage people (like me) to keep up with their logs more.
Hey, good news, dudes! We’ve been planning to implement blogs on this site since forever ago. Just about there! You know I’ll make an announcement when they’re up and running
And hell yes to the Wisdom of Tacitus blog. I would be obsessed with it. Hell yes to RSS! I can get that stuff on my phone! (so many hell yess’es for one paragraph…)
No and I’d like to think on how best to report publically without giving away too many details on what’s happened… while giving some more details in a private section perhaps…
I cant wait! Im a 100% newbie and have several bottles coming within the next few days. Im going to start my blog with wordpad and post up to date what i have completed already once the system is up and just add to that daily I cant wait!
I don’t recall if this has been mentioned before, but a centralized blog system might be okay too if it is searchable like threads. So, if Androtics starts its pheromone blog service where users can create their own blog, there could be a central search facility where if you type in any search term it searches for related posts in all user blogs.
The thing about having a totally separate thing is that it increases the amount of effort required, both to find stuff and to post stuff. I lean more toward the creative side, but i just havent had the desire to decorate my phero-posts. I want more people to look at my posts and respond, thats all, maybe leave me a few rep points when they pass through. If i have to visit 10 different blogs and theyre all customized different ways, its just more work, even with a search engine.
Blogs are more for individuality than community. This is very much a community for information exchange. I dont think too many people will be posting pictures of their families or their last vacation, and if you were going to do so, why would you choose your phero-blog as the place you want to invest your time in? Popping in and responding to a few posts is a different thing altogether. Think about how much it slows you down when someone decides to use a different font for their post! Not that many people here have even set signatures.
I dont know what Jasmin has in mind but when i think about blogs in conjunction with this forum, i dont see any value-add. How does the blog help us exchange information better, make the community more friendly/real or help Androtics generate more revenue? RSS would be more useful overall, especially because it will help generate more search engine hits, but it still seems like a micro-improvement for the effort required.
Just because it can be done, doesnt mean it should…
I have to say I’m with you, unless we talk of an area where you must be a registered user to access it.. and still the current situation is probably the best.
As Steveo has mentioned working on the forum problems is not top priority but once they get to it I agree with you guys.
Why not just add a section for blogs or journals right under the men and womens sections. Make it only for registered users. I am a member to some other forums and they do that. People dont even see the section is there till they log in to the forum.
Not sure if you can add sections once you have the forum set up but if you can its a good idea.
Hey admin, I own a web design/SEO company, and will have my guys incorporate a blogging or journal function into the forum script for free for you/us, if you want to take me up on it.
I’d post my URL and contact info, but I’m not sure it’s allowed and I think you all can pretty easily find me if you’re interested.
The blogs could be used as journals, allowing each user to detail their results within a single area, without the folks at Androtics having to read through entire threads, which let’s face it, oftentimes get way off topic.
I have a couple of PM’s from Jasmin on the Blogs, and it is something that they are waiting on a Vbullietin update to be able to incorporate. As for RSS feeds, that would actually be easy to incorporate into either the Smartmones or Pheromonetalk site. and could be done in an hour or 2.
Another way to increase pages indexed and ranked by search engines would be to shorten the urls, which can probably be done pretty easily too.
