I’ve been reading reports on different putatives recently, and was wondering. Has there been a putative so far that just hasn’t seemed to produce much of an effect? I’ve noticed that most of the reports on P123 show fairly small and subtle effects compared to molecules like P79 or P83. I know that Androtics and the world of pheromone research know what they’re doing, but there has to be a failure every once in a while (although it’s not really failure, as it provides information about what sorts of molecules and structures produce effects and which don’t.) So, if anyone has any opinions or links to threads which discuss this, I’d like to see them. Thank you very much!
By the way, has anyone else noticed that P123 seems to have a definite smell of its own?
i didn’t see any effects with p104 and some other people had the same experience as well. steve has a thread where he reports lots of great hits with p104 so i believe he must’ve had a different version.
I wonder how putatives are developed exactly. Do they take existing molecules and alter them slightly, or do they just chunk atoms together and see if you want to make babies whenever you inhale them?
Putatives are among the most experimental of the products, as they’re not yet confirmed to be pheromones per se. They’re available for testing so Androtics can use the data gained in reports to help determine what each one does. Some will be duds, and some will be firecrackers. Such is the nature of the game.
The word “putative” is defined as “1 : commonly accepted or supposed 2 : assumed to exist or to have existed” by Merriam-Webster, so essentially what we’re dealing with are theoretical pheromones until research can peg them down to just what they are.
As I understand it, they analyze human sweat for various molecules that are as yet unidenitified, and when they find one that resembles other molecules that they know are active pheromones, they synthesize that molecule and begin preliminary testing. If it seems to have some sort of active response, then they take it to Putative status and testing begins amongst us.
