On your note Tater, you’re right that the forum is not broken. It was posted the same time I was posting mine so I didn’t actually see it until now.
I believe everyone has some good ideas and that’s what the idea of this thread is all about: Ideas.
The point I originally was making is that unlike your journal which is popular, there are other journals that are not. With that thought, personally I like to read threads that seem to interest me. So when I see a thread dedicated to results of a particular putative or mix I go to read it because it intrigues me.
I rarely find myself reading journals because by all things Pink and Squishy I want to get to the juice without squeezing the orange. Heck that’s what the store is for. Let them squeeze.
So where I am not saying the forum is broken, I am suggesting that I for one would be more inclined to read threads dedicated to testing a specific mix without having to skim through other posts I don’t feel inclined to read.
I agree SteveO. Its nice to especially be able to search for a paticular putative or MX without having to sift through a journal. I think my minor hits on the consumer products will be reported in my journal, but have my results from the test mixes start new threads. I actually had a decent hit with MX264 so i cut and pasted what i had in my journal to a post (See MX264 is your friend ).
SteveO, instead of a whole new section for testing why not just start an “official” thread for each of the newly released products. In your op make it known that new testers should post results for that product and only that product in the thread. Then in the future a search for “official mx—” would go right to that thread.
I searched through several p79 threads to find one that I thought was appropriate to tack my results onto. I didn’t want to start a whole new p79 thread just to post a few days worth of testing but I did want my results to be accessible. Having a central spot to post those types of results to would simplify without interrupting the general give and take of the forums as they now operate. Just my 2 cents.
edit:“primary” is a close synonym to “official” that doesn’t sound as authoritarian I suppose.
I have another thought. You can just start one new forum for all Experimental Products, and either require members to list the product name in the thread title, or provide a drop down select menu for them to choose the product being reviewed. Then the search tool could easily be modified to add “Search Titles”.
This would allow Androtics to easily monitor user experiences with experimentals, on a product by product basis, and allow members to easily find information on specific products as well. An additional benefit would be the ability to easily follow individual member’s testing history on each product.
Very little work would be required to make this type of modification, and I will offer to do the mods for free, if Androtics would like us to.
I’m with z414a4d on this one.. I think minor hits and certain details go in my journal, but anything unusual or new should go in another forum thread (perhaps leaving any personal details out though).
